In an examination,80% of students passed in english,85% in Maths and 75% in both English and maths.if 40students failed in both the subject find the total number of students in this n(a)=80 n(b)=85 n(AUB) should be 75% but they have given a(AB) as 75% hw cum its possible.. im really confused by such problems..can any one clearly explain the difference.thanks in advance
My take is 400.
See.. 75% passed in both. Now, 80% passed in English => Only english = (80-75)% = 5% And only Maths = (85-75)% = 10%
So, total passed = (Passed in both) + (Passed in only 1) = 75 + (5+10) = 90%
So, 10% failed in both the subjects. As 40 failed in both the subjects, total number of students = 400
1)A and B can do a piece of work in 18 days, B and C can do it in 24 days, A and C can do it in 36 days. In how many days will A,B and C finish it, working together and separately?
2)45 men can complete a work in 16 days. 6 days after they started working, 30 more joined them. How many days will they take now to complete the remaining work?

(1) My take is 16
Days take are (18, 24, 36) => 6 * (3, 4, 6)
Now, let's consider (3, 4, 6) and in the end multiply by 6. => (A, B) do 24/3 = 8 units per day => (B, C) do 24/4 = 6 units per day => (C, A) do 24/6 = 4 units per day
=> (A, B) + (B, C) + (C, A) do 8+6+4 units per day => 2*(A+B+C) do 18 units per day => A+B+C do 9 units per day
=> A+B+C will take 24/9 days to complete work Multiplying by 6 now, A, B and C will together take 6*(24/9) = 16 days
(2) My take is 6
Total work units = 45*16 After 6 days, 45*6 are done and 45*10 are left.
Now, let's consider (3, 4, 6) and in the end multiply by 6. => (A, B) do 24/3 = 8 units per day => (B, C) do 24/4 = 6 units per day => (C, A) do 24/6 = 4 units per day

(2) My take is 6
Total work units = 45*16 After 6 days, 45*6 are done and 45*10 are left.
Now, 30 more men join => Total men = 75
=> Days needed = (45*10)/75 = 6
could you explain why 24 in the foll. step?? => (A, B) do 24/3 = 8 units per day => (B, C) do 24/4 = 6 units per day => (C, A) do 24/6 = 4 units per day

LCM of (3, 4, 6) being 24; we have assumed the total work amount = 24 units As (A, B) take 3 days together; they do 24/3 units = 8 units per day.. And so on..

1. 1/A+1/B =1/18 1/B+1/c = 1/24 1/A+1/C= 1/36 Adding all 2(1/A+1/B+1/C)= 1/18+1/24+1/26 Solving 1/A+1/B+1/C = 1/4 So total 4 days. 2. total man-hours days = 45*16 = 720 for 6 days = 45*6 = 270 720-270 = 450 Now 30 more joined so 45+30 = 75 so total days 450/75 = 6 My take

1. 9+90*2+900*3+4x = 28383 => x= 6373, rem = 2 6373 63. 28383rd digit is 3.
2. Remove all numbers which leaves remainder of 1,2,3,4 by dividing 9 => Number of numbers which leaves 1,2,3,4 as remainders is (3000/9) * 4 = 1332 + 1(One multiple of 9 can be thr) = 1333

1. A=30, B=40, C=50, D=60 => Total cost = 180 Now, A=33, B=32, C=35, D=84 => Total new cost = 184 => Increase% = 4/180 * 100 => 2.22%
2. Inheritence left = x Money Left after producing a failed film = 67.5x/100 Money left after getting mugged = 67.5x/100 - 100000 Money left after donating to charity = 0.8*(0.675x - 100000) Money left after purchasing apt = 0.8*(0.675x - 100000) - 750000 => 0.8*(0.675x - 100000) - 750000 = 250000 => 0.8*(0.675x - 100000) = 1000000 => 0.54x - 80000 = 1000000 => x = 20 lakhs

Suppose 1 ticket was originally sold so total collection = 250 finally 1.5 tickets were sold for = 250*(82.5/100) Therefore,deduction in price,= 250 - 250*(82.5/100) = Rs.112.50

Lets say that x people came to the theatre. Total money collected = 250*x Now the no of people increased to 1.5x => 1.5x * P = 0.825 * 250x => P = 137.5 Hence cost reduced = 250 - 137.5 = 112.5

My take B 112.5
Let the initial sales be "x"
250 * x = 250x --> Total Sales-->EQ 1
After the change :
(250-y) * 1.5x = 82.5 * 250x --> EQ2
Dividing 1 by 2
250/1.5(250-y) = 1/82.5
82.5 * 250 = 375 - 1.5y
y = 112.5
This method is the conventional one. Any smart cuts?

in an examination 45% students failed in hindi and 32% failed in History,20% failed in both the subjects.if the number of students who passed the examination was 880,how many students appeared in the examination consisted only of these two subjects..
