pls explain in detail with steps
1.2x=480
x=400 --> C. P
Using alligations,
610 --- 126
----400----
274 --- 210
274:210 -> 137:105
Is it 137?
they didnt give option in the sample paper..i too got the same answer
Bhai mere Sarvesh kumar has problems and explainations related to set theory's maximum and minimum problem.
1) a vessel is full of refined oil.1/4 of the refined oil is taken out and the vessel is fileld with mustard oil.if the prcoess is repeated 4 times and 10 ltrs of refined oil is finally left in the vessel what is the capacity of the vessel..
pls explain with steps thanks in advance
Say, the capacity of vessel is x litres.
=> x*(3/4)^4 = 10 (As after every process 3/4th of the refined oil will remain in the vessel)
=> x=10*(256)/81= 2560/81 litres
a)1 b)3 c)4 d)5
the given answer is 4..pls explain d proceedings

Akhilesh took five papers in an examination, where each paper was of 200 marks. His marks in these' papers were in the proportion of 7: 8: 9 :10 : 11. in all the papers together,the candidate scored 60% of the total marks.then the number of papers in which he got more than 50% is
a)1 b)3 c)4 d)5
the given answer is 4..pls explain d proceedings

7 : 8 : 9 : 10 : 11 being ratio of makrs, avg. makrs will be of ratio value 9. Say they are 9x.
=> 9x = 60%
So, 50% = 9x*(50/60)
= 7.5x
So, 8x, 9x, 10x and 11x are above 50% while 7x is below 50%.

Akhilesh scored 60% of the total marks i.e. he must have scored 600 (As total marks of five subjects=5*200=1000)
As marks obtained by him in these papers are in the ratio of 7: 8: 9 :10 : 11, he must have scored 7*600/45, 8*600/45, 9*600/45, 10*600/45 and 11*600/45 in paper1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 respectively.
Out of these, only 7*600/45 is less than 100 (50% of 200).
Hence he must have scored more than 50% in 4 papers.
Fifty percent of the employees of a certain company are men, and 80% of the men earn more than Rs. 2.5 lacs per year. If 60% of the company's employees earn more than Rs.2.5 lacs per year,then what fraction of the women employed by the company earn more than 2.5 lac per year
50/100 *x=1/2x are men
1/2x*80/100=2/5x of men earn more than 2.5 lacs
60/100*x=3/5x (of total) earn more than 2.5 lacs
after this im confused..hw to proceed to the answer pls explain in detail

Use 100 concept.
Total employee = 100
Total men = 50
Total women = 50
Men earning over 2.5 lacs = 0.8*50 = 40
Total employees earning over 2.5 lacs = 60
=> Women earning over 2.5 lacs = 20
Fraction = 20/50 = 2/5
1) A college has raised 80% of the amount it needs for a new building by receiving an average donation of Rs 800 from the people already solicited.the people already solicited represent 50% of the people,the college will ask donations. If the college is to raise exactly the amount needed for the new building, what would be the average donation from the remaining people to be solicited ?
2) An indian company purchases components X and Y fom UK and Germany respectively.X and Y form 40% and 30% of the total production cost.Current gain 25%.Due to change in the international exchange rate scenario the cost of the german mark increased by 50% and that of uk pound increased by 25%.due to tough competitive market conditions,the selling price cannot be increased beyond 10%. then
i)what is the maximum current gain? the answer is 10%
ii)if the UK pound becomes cheap by 15% over its original cost and the cost of German mark is increased by 20%.what will be the gain if the Selling price is not altered.the answer is 25%.
pls explain in detail with proceedings..

let x be the total amt required for the building and y be the people to be solicited
0.8x=800*0.5y
x=500y
0.2x=m*0.5y
m=200
m=avg donation from remaining people ....:)
i hope i am not wrong..whats the oa?

If the college is to raise exactly the amount needed for the new building, what would be the average donation from the remaining people to be solicited ?
.
Is it Rs 200 average donation?
Will post the details if its correct
Edit:
Amt = x
People = y
y/2 have been solicited
Donation received so far
=> 800 * y/2
=> 400y
=> 400y = 0.8x
=> x = 500y
Now average will be
=> 100y/(y/2)
=> 200

needed amount X
800*n/2 = 400n is 80% the amount = 80/100*x
Now 20% should be fetch from n/2= 200 Rs
2. (1) earlier 40 30 30 production cost Gain 25% => 125
40 +20 = 60
30+30/4 = 150/4 = 75/2
+30
So now cp. = 127.5
Now s.p. = 125*10/100 = 12.5 +125 = 137.5
So Current gain 137.5 - 127.5 = 10 /127.5 *100 =7.84 %

50% men
50% women
50*80/100 = 40% of men earns more than 2.5
40% x%
.......60%
x-60 20
X= 80%
50*80/100 = 40% of women earns more than 2.5
40/100 = 2/5 my take

7x+8x+9x+10x+11x= 45x
45x = 60/100*1000 = 600
x = 600/45 =13 approximately
for 50% it should be 100
13*7 =91
8*13 =104
so all 4 subject in which ration is 8,9,10,11.

3)A mixture of 70 liters of alcohol and water contains 10% of water. How much water must be added to the above mixture to make the water 12.5% of the resulting mixture
pls explain with steps thanks in advance
7 liter W
7+x / (70+x) *100 = 12.5
1000(7+x) = 125 (70+x)
