Thanks alot Bro for putting in your genuine perspective. My only concern is to prepare well for CAT and for that I have to devote quality time to it. I am aware that a quality work ex will always be useful and that a bigger brand plays a decent role. I want your advice in the same related field.
My Query is if I join a not-so well known firm and get some certifications like NCFM etc will it be helpful to make a decent profile???
Yes bro , doing certification will definitely help you build up your profile , i dont know current profile as u didnt mention, but seems like you already have been working in finance feild and doing certis wont hamper your progress , some of them might be a cake walk for you given the experience
Secondly, which Top schools according to you give profile based calls apart from SCMHRD & SP Jain???
Apart from these two colleges , IIM I and IIM K this year have given weightage to work-ex and called people with 95 odd percentile as well
And also , these days almost all colleges given 10-20% percent weightage to work -ex , so yes work-ex is important
Thirdly Suppose, If I don't join any of the companies and do some of NCFM Modules and take 1 year PG Diploma course side by side, would that be better considering that interview panel might ask questions Like you worked in a company in xxxx year, then you left your work altogether and started studies, is it ODD???
One question bro , why do you want to complicate your life by doing so many things , Will you be able to do justice to the 1year PG program that you join. Do you want to show the interview panels that you are not sure about your life , about your goals .
Fourthly, I have an option to join my Dad's Firm also. He is also a practising C.A and would further help me to devote quality time as the office is hardly a K.M from my place, but again the question comes will the Top 30 B-schools consider this as a valid work ex as they might consider it a Fake certi?? I donot want to give a fake certificate as it will do more harm than good and might reduce my chances in final selections and would thus prefer to show nothing than showing something fake.
No i dont think so there will be any problem if you work for your Dad's firm, as long as you can show the knowledge and experience you have gained by working in the firm. This could be your best option as , you can justify leaving your job to join your Dad's firm also
Hope it helps you to take the right decision, Prepare Hard and achieve your dreams
puys plzz helpme..i am in a very confused state..i dont know what to do,..what should be my next step i am really confused.....i did my graduation(BBA) from ip university delhi..in 2009 then i took a gap of one year to prepare for the entrance tests but cudnt get thru gud b schools...now i hve one last option left mba from ip university..which is not a good option at all.i want to make my career in finance.now plz suggest me should i go for an mba from a low grade b school or should i try to gain work ex and then try for mba? basically i am confused between these two 1.i am thinking to do 1 yr diploma in finace and pursue mba from distance mode. 2.pursue mba from ip univ and in the meantime prepare for cfa.
ps:if u suggest me to gain some work ex.i would like to add one thing that whenever i try to look for a job all i get is marketing.they say this is the only job for a bba graduate :-(:-( and i dont want to go in marketing.
Bro ,
I know its a difficult decision to take , only option i could think of is a teaching option in an educational institute , be it a college , be it a coaching center, it would give you time for your preparation also. I have quiet a few batchmates who have some teaching experience in IMS and Career Launcher for more than 2 years.
I know you dont want to waste another year, but its life long decision bro, you need to consider your next 30-40 years of professional life .
Make an informed decision regarding the college and quality of studies , faculty , infrastructure .

hey hi, if you really feel like doing an mba, i would say prepare for it and try again next year,as for the gap period as is already mentioned try for some certificate course and you can also work voluntarily for some ngo, the certificates from an ngo gives a good effect and you can always relate it to mba, my say is it is better to drop a year and prepare than to do a job you donot like because that would add nothing to your profile
Hi Although I dnt have so much experience as other guys present in this forum have but all I know is one thing.....Do what you want to do.....Go for your heart because wherever you might be, in whichever field ,there will be ample opportunities to succeed but the only question that arises is whether you grab those opportunities or not.......and it is only possible if you like to do what you are doing.
And regarding your parents I think they have their right to give you suggestions......getting emotional and not doing what you like might not be a gud decision.....in the end, all your parents would want is to see you happy.
I am saying all theses things from my own experiences and believe me you will be successful and happy if you have confidence in doing what you believe. And from your quotes it seems that you really want to make it to china...........rest is upto you whether you can delay your decision or not.
All the best. Decisions are always difficult when it is between heart and brain.....isn't it ??
I have just given bcom final year exams and now i want to do mba but there will be 1 year time gap if i will just prepare for the exams..should i do a job or please suggest any good regular course in banking or finance.
bro thanks a lot for ur valueable reply but i cant afford to lose 1 more year.o\ anyways i gt your point you are absolutely right. if i go for 1year diploma in finance and mba from correspondence meanwhile preparing for cfa which is covered in the syllabus of 1 year pgdf what do you think would it be a right step?
Hey Brother...since you have decided to go for your masters this year itself my suggestion to you would be to go for a regular MBA Program rather than doing MBA from distance learning reason being Distance Learning MBA are fruitfull to those who are already working but only need a degree to move up the ladder. You still have chances to make into regular MBA Program as admission in some colleges are still open and simultaneously give CFA or any other certification you might want to add to your profile. Another Big reason to go for a regular MBA program against doing from Distance Learning is about getting opportunities or if I put in other words is about Placements. You have higher chances of getting Campus Recruitment in Regular than in Distance Learning as not every distance learning university has tieups to give you a platform.
But if you consider doing from Distance Mode only, you could try from Narsee Monjee CDL, IMT CDL, Symbiosis CDL, Ignou CDL. Please try to do your own Analysis of every Distance Learning Mode and then enroll only because as rightly said by Abhimukh19 it's not about getting Degree only, it's about laying your foundations for the next 30-40 years and it is your credentials only which will support you for the time you are established.
Do make your decision wisely and carefully.Do not get discouraged as we all are in the same boat. Shoot back your queries if you have any. People here are too cooperative and will definitely give their best opinions.
I'm physically handicapped and currently working in TCS for the past 1.5yrs. i'm confused as to which PG course to go for. i'm from ECE background and been working in IT field. So will it be worth if I go for Mtech from any of the good institutes in the country. Also, how are the placements in IITs for Mtech students ? I'm not very much interested in doing MBA but looking at the current scenario (placements and no. of good colleges) also gave a thought of doing it. I'm planning to take Finance stream if I go for MBA. Can you please let me know the prospects in this field and also the likely work profile I can get? As i'm physcially handicapped, will it create any issue during the placement process? I'm very confused and looking forward to your useful responses.
I have a very fundamental query. Recently I graduated and completed my Engineering. Now I got a job somewhere that doesn't really pay well but is of my interest (technical field, non-IT) and I am certain that I can probably keep doing it for a very very long time. My question is related to firstly the eligibility for CAT (IIMs) or other top B-schools. The problem is that I do not satisfy the minimum criteria of 55% (or even 50% for that) to appear for CAT. Why I did poor in academics is a different story. Even though my academic performance in Engineering was very poor, I have decent percentages in 10th and 12th boards (in the 80s overall in both in CBSE). Firstly, I want to ask: Am I eligible to do MBA from these top B-schools? Or is there any good MBA school which doesn't give too much weightage to the mistakes made in graduation, where I could probably do MBA later in life after some work experience?
The second question is related to the basic need of doing MBA itself. For example, I know some examples of Engineers who graduated a decade or two ago, and went onto their core field (whether mechanical, civil or chemical or any other), gained work experience and are today having managerial positions in their companies and salaries that are literally as high as 30 LPA. So, for them MBA wouldn't really add too much of value at this stage where they have learned much more through experience and enjoy great responsibilities in their companies. Of course, in this global business age, MBA can really add credentials to your profile (although whatever learned in MBA could still be learned by other means - experience or self-study). But I somehow believe that not having MBA isn't that bad after all.
My question is : is there any managerial course (let alone MBA) from a reputed or good institute which I could pursue later in life after some work experience in my present job, without having to face the screening of graduation grades criteria?
hi guys....here is a confused soul seeking help/guidance.... im a 2009 engg passout and have been at home since then doing nothing except preparing for cat......last year got a decent score in cat.....this year im confident of doing well in written tests but nw worried abt the gap....nw i plan to take any job that will come my way....and hope to get working by august....actually earlier rejected many job offers frm bangalore for the sole purpose of cat.....what should i do nw?? 1.nw work for some time n try next year or 2.take a job n give a serious shot this year itself....im confident abt written part but worried abt the gap/profile/gdpi.........
PS:actually i just scored a meagre 55ile% in my first cat,so i knew i had to start frm scratch and hence the gap.....last year improved a bit and scored 85%ile.......
hi i passed out from DU last year.i have done BA(h)economics.due to some personal reasons i screwed up my scores n ended up with 45% as an aggregate for graduation.i gave 2attempts for actuarials but could not clear any paper so i planned to quit it.

Hi Buddy,
I would like to share few things here :)
1. You increased your score from 55%yl to 85%yl last year. With some more sincere effort and intelligent analysis of mock tests this season , you can surely get the score required to get calls from top B-Schools. Hence, you can keep up the expectations from yourself at this end.
2. There have been many cases who have taken gap like you and currently, studying in top B-Schools . You just need to find appropiate justification for the gap during GDPI phase , in case they ask you. For mere shortlisting , gap won't be an issue , it is just that this period won't give you the score for work ex ( where ever applicable )
3. There are people who have done well along with job in written exams and despite work experience of few months, have landed into top colleges of country.
In your case, i would suggest that if you can find a job where work pressure is less and you feel that you can prepare along with job, go ahead with joining the job and prepare simultaneously. However, if you think that it would be difficult for you to cope preparation with job plus you want to gain substantial work ex before getting into a B-School , then go for job this year and try for CAT and other exams in next year.
First of all there are some good colleges like IIM-C , which dont look at your grades a lot , given that you perform well in CAT and in the interview, many puys have made it to great B-Schools , with below average acads in graduation. Colleges like IMI, IMT-G, MDI, NITIE, give some weightage to the acads , but CAT score plays the most important role as well, so whenever you want to prepare , work hard and try maximize your score

hello puys....i needed some advice on my chances in getting into top B-schools. i have just started my CAT-2011 preparation and i am quite good in QA,DI sections....hopefully will improve VR section too.my acads are x=89.2% xii=90% graduation=75% i have cleared NCFM test 2 but will have no wrk experience when i go to any MBA cllg in 2012 as i am in 3rd yr of my b-tech if i manage to notch up percentile of arnd 95+(hopefully:)) then what are my chances?

It is really appreciable that u r preparing for CAT 2011 ...
don't worry .... clear all the3 LEVELS of NCFM ...that 'll enhance ur profile big time !!
WORK-EX ... not a big problem ...
Grads % 55 ... & cleared IIM C :)
sO... give ur best shot ... to reach the apex i.e, IIMs & XLRI !!

Thanks for the reply sir.....it did encouraged me a bit.....
1.Actually i never really gave a serious attempt at cat....my first 2 attempts were half-hearted and just for the sake of it.....i may sound a little cynical here...but when you already know that no matter even if you score a 100%ile in cat,you surely wont get calls frm 3 iims atleast ie. IIM A,B,S..... though i feel that with serious well planned preparation i can do well in cat.
2.im aware that gap wont be an issue in mere shortlisting, but im not sure if a huge gap of whole one year will be justifiable.also i want to ask that if i work in a small company or on contract basis, will that be counted as relevant or only work-ex in big brands is valuable??
3.now if i plan for next year i surely will have more time to prepare and even more time to contemplate....i dont want to run after a rat race.....though i do have mba on my horizon but im still not sure what post mba....but im sure i dont to make a career in technical field....
here is my profile.... 10th-84% 12th-78.60% b.tech-65% (most unproductive years of my life) do i stand a chance with this profile if i get a great percentile ?
