Personal/Career/CAT-job Dilemma Queries : A Repository

hiiiiii everyone.........
here goes my situation and query............
i hv done my engg in computer science with aggr-65.88%........when i was in third year all my frndz joined private coaching classes 4 mba preparation........that time i wasnt sure abt weather to go 4 mba or for job.......moreover at that time my financial condition was weak so i cudnt even afford to give various exams...........but nw since i hav completed my engg and financial conditions also hav improved and also didnt get job thru campus so mba is only option left in front of me...........so nw unwillingly i hav to take a drop of year and prepare 4 cat and cet...........in such scenario wt shud i do ........also i wont be able to manage job which demands heavy working hours......... so shud i submit drop certi?...........shud i do a less profile job like lecturership 4 a year ?.........or shud i sit n just prepare 4 mba entrances?...........or shud i do a course in .net or oracle 4 six monthes and then take up a job?...

Forget abt .NET n all....just sit n prepare for mba widout taking
any job if ur financial posn permit so.
MBA is not like a primary class where u pass n immediately r promoted
to higher standard. Drop of 1 yr wont do any harm...however
will be good if u can ""arrange"" for some workex certificate
now i am in big trouble
.
.
and i am totaly confused so tell me what to
i am a 2010 b.tech pass out student and currently i am preparing for cat 2010
but a miss fortune happens with me that i got a supply in one of my btech paper and if i give the re exam then my result came in september 2011
so should i continue preperation for mba or drop it .
.
.
because i dont know till counseling i have certificates in my hand or not.
.
.
my past history are
10+12btech 66% with one standing sply
and 2yr gap between btech and 12th
currently preparing for cat and job searching also
.
.
so plz suggesed what to do that i search job or prepare for mba ???

I got placed in IBM & CTS..can anyone help me in choosing pl reply soon

Hello!!
I'm an Engineering Graduate (E&EC;) with 9.26 CGPA. I am working in a pharmaceutical plant as an GET. I have observed that i have been having a lot of medical troubles since i have been working here. Its almost 9 months now.
I'm seriously considering leaving this job and focus on preparing for MBA entrance/ GRE etc. Would leaving job hamper my chances of getting admission into a reputed institute??
I really need help here and asap!!

NOT at all...ur chances wont get hampered. However I suggest
work there for 3 more months to complete 1 yr.
Then focus solely on MBA prep..ATB.

Ur record is not gr8 so u gotta add some thing xtra to ur profile.

hello
just had a little query about my work ex

i have worked in a production frim as an GET for a year around and 3 days back quit my job as i am not happy working out there

prep. for cat so wanna know do they count productioN experience too......??
got 10 75%
12 65%
b.tech 60.01%
no gap b/w 12 and b tech

Puys need your opinion on this.
I left my job after working for 2 years in an Indian software mnc in august last year to prepare for my first attempt at CAT. After some near misses I am presently wait-listed at 17 (after 4 W/L movements) for IIT-B. I am not sure if I will be able to convert it in the final list that releases today bcoz last time the movement was only 8 places.
In the worst case scenario I will have to look for jobs again and I am desperate to avoid IT jobs now bcoz its clear that CAT prep and IT job cannot go hand in hand especially if I am working for any domestic client. I am interested in finance sector and preparing for CFA L1 too. I would like to know if its possible to get into this sector without any formal education about finance although I have been studying risks and derivatives myself since last two months thru some books?
I know that finance sector can be very hectic too but its the sector in which I want to built my career so in a way it aligns more closely to my future goals.
Another thing is how will my unemployment affect my job prospects in any sector and what can be done about it?
Replies and suggestions are welcome.

Yes, they count production experience as well.

Any full time paid work experience is a valid work ex as per B-Schools. You need to have relieving letter/work ex certificate from the company while joining B-School.

"Arrange" as in get some HR in a company to give you a certificate stating you have worked there for x months?

I'm curious. Is it that simple? I mean aren't there any checks or verification at the time of GD/PI or Admission?

There might be checks at the time of admission or during CV Verification later in college. I suggest you to kindly refrain from any such act so that you can live with mental peace later.

You might get into college with such things , but there will be a thought of guilt and fear of getting caught which will persist in your mind.

Hence, better to go for things which have been done in reality by you rather than producing any fake thing.

@87ln
Kindly refrain from giving such suggestions of 'arranging' certificates .

That is what I thought. Its not as easy as it seems or else everyone would sit at home and prepare comfortably for a year or two and then simply produce an "arranged" certificate for the gap period.

I wouldn't suggest anybody down that road. Firstly, because of what vision has said above and also, the panelists that take your interview are no fools. The are experienced enough to judge who is faking at the time of interview. There would be lot of questions in the interview regarding your work and believe me, it is going to be nearly impossible to answer them convincingly if you have not actually worked in that particular domain.

Please refrain from such deeds.

I passed out as a Electronics & Telecom.Engg. in 2009 with a 7.5 gpa from a private engg. college in Bhubaneswar,Orissa.my score in 10th is 86% and in 12th is 66%.i am currently working as an engineer in a small telecom vendor company.i will call it small coz we execute the projects of ZTE or NSN nd other big telecom eqippment manufacturers which r ultimately from the service providers.i m working from last 7 months & will have a 1yr+ experience if i wish 2 take admission for MBA next yr.but the company is so small that they don't have a system in place.my salary comes my account at the end of every month.no salary slip,no documents...nothing.so i m not going 2 get an experience certificate for sure.i don't want 2 change location or an other company coz i m preparing in TIME here.its a complete field job & gives me a little time to study for CAT this yr.i appeared CAT 08 & got 73 percentile.i know i can score 90+ .so i m thinking of quitting this job 2 give more time towards CAT..........i m so confused & feeling insecure.please suggest something.

I have decided to go for an MBA after gaining around 3 years of work experience. I have just graduated from BITS, Pilani as an electrical and electronics engineer, with an average academic record (7.1 CGPA), but have good academic credentials in 10th and 12th examinations (92.8% and 91.2% respectively) with a fair amount of extra curricular activities. I also appeared for CAT 2009 and managed to get 96 percentile without much preparation.

Now I have two job offers lined up, one is as a GET with Michelin, the other is as a Patent Engineer with Motorola, and I can't seem to make up my mind between the two. The Michelin job mainly involves two years of extensive international training followed by a role in manufacturing and automation. The Motorola job mainly involves interacting with researchers and attorneys for preparing and prosecuting patent applications.

I would prefer an opportunity which would add more value to my MBA. I would mostly like to get into consulting/operations/marketing after an MBA and I only want to go for the top rung institutes. I am also considering GMAT as an option. Another important factor is that the job should provide me with ample time to prepare myself for the MBA admits. What is your opinion? Which option should I go for?

I am not answering anybody's query but while skimming htru some of posts, I am putting some points form my experience:

  1. Do not leave the job for cAT, as it adds presssure to you on the D Day, also if you have job it gives you mental support, that if CAT is lost not evrything is lost
  2. Try taking jobs which will be more aligned to your field of interest when u will go for MBA, I know it is quite tuff to do this
  3. Also do not feel that IT jobs are bad or of no use, the thing is they are most job generator jobs, look into positves of it, like onsite, exposure presentations client interaction
  4. If your are a mehcnanical/civil/elcetronics engineer prefer job of your field over IT jos, as they make u more relevant in terms of applying to schools abroad as well as in india
  5. I will suggest evrybody to work somewhere or the other, as this year i think IIM K didint even called a 99.8 %iler fresehr, they preferred work ex, so it very very rucial right now
  6. IF you think u cannot study with job, think over gaina, I know people who quit the jobs could not make th cut and later on repent, as your admison depends on a lot of factors which u will come to know as u go forward in this journey
  7. Do not sacrifice evrything for CAT, believe me it does not wokr that way, poeple keep chucking onsite and many other things, and later on repenet again
  8. be serious in your job and do well there, it will give u a high or your cat exam
  9. CAt is more about mental prep then academic

There lot of other things but i think these are the imp ones

I got placed in CTS and IBM..iam in a dilemma to choose..can anyone suggest me..pl help me

@ jain_ashu

Mr.Jain, opportunities are lot. We only have to move on and grab them. So, don't frustrate (i sensed from your words). In finance sector, as a beginner without any prior knowledge, you can enter there as a Relationship executive or a finance advisor. These opps are enormous bounding to banking and insurance sector. Graduation alone is enough to secure those places. Have a search at some of the job portals, you'll get some grasps. But, you could not expect a big pays as IT firms do. You can get atleast 15K per month. Best of luck.

yes buddy you are right, I am a bit frustrated with all these near misses. Now I can add to it another medal from IIT-B finally rejected again.
