Personal/Career/CAT-job Dilemma Queries : A Repository

Hi Puys ,

I wanted to know if getting into IIMs after having 3 exp is reasonable. What would be the percentage of students in IIMs with 3 yrs exp ?? Does the system do justice to 3 yr wrk-ex guys ( it does damn good justice to people with 0-2 yrs exp) ??

Thanks

I have been selected in a Testing Company Called Maveric-systems...!

They Have a Three year Bond Which is Risking my Mba Career... i have a plan to purse Mba from 2011....! pls help me to know how good is this Company...!

Is it good to join this Company.....
I would like some Reviews/comments on this Company....!!

Some rules are made to be broken. A bond does not have any legal standing in a court of law and therefore you need not bother. Any contract or agreement is a valid contract if it protects the interests of both parties. Here the employer wants you to sign and give a commitment that u wont leave the comp for 3 yrs had he signed and given u that he cannot sack you for 3 yrs then the bond would stand legally.

So do not bother and accept the offer if you feel the company is good.

hi m ishita shah currently in 3rd year of engineering(IT), wanted 2 knw gud b schools offerin mba in it/systems in india n outside india?

WEll do not give wrong advice if u do not know wat u r speaking about, not so easy to break a bond and i think it is legally applicable also once u sign on the dotted line. Also the bond is of monetary value which u might need to deposit bfr joiing or mayb asked to pay at a later stage, also the consequences of a broken bond do not leave a gud impact on your CV, as well as u will never gt a gud reco from the company later on , which may prove to b an important point.

So please before giving advice chk out on wat u r saying.

BPO Experience is generally Not considered. BTW Don't join BPO industry because you want to improve your Fluency. In order to do that you need to Practice a lot. Read loads of books. All you need is confidence dude. You can master the language if you put in efforts.
If you are interested in Marketing then a low end Job at marketing would be a good idea. Whatever work you decide to do should be Qualitative,it shouldn't be for money. If you want to write CAT next year then Build up your profile by gaining experience,Volunteer work etc If you are new to the World of books then PM me i can suggest some good books to start of to improve.

I agree with mickeymalhotra, such type of company bonds are not legally enforcable. The definition of contract is right.
However, companies create problems in experience certificate if u leave them early. Again, e'bdy in industry knows this and if u hv monthly salary slips, that shud be gud enuf proof of employement.

I do not know abt the legality of such bonds but I do think that they are applicable, it is not about the work ex certi but when u leave the company a lot of problems arise. U 'll require a termination letter bcoz of which they hav smtimes also forced ppl to pay the bond money or would state in it that u hav been expelled and so it creates a negative impression on your next employer.

> also i was wondering if it isnt legally binding thn yr ppl forced to cough up copious sums of money , coz if it isnt thn it is purely extortion money and hw come no one has ever complained about it till yet.
Perhaps u could provide me with an answer and clear my doubts as well.

Most of the bonds are monetary in nature. Like Company X having bond for 1.5 year of 1 Lakh. That means if you break the bond(leave company before 1.5 yr in company) you have to pay them Rs.1 Lakh . Every company have different policies, but you can always break the bond and paying some money(depending upon company)

I'm not very sure whether bonds are legally enforceable or not (I presume they are) but they might pose some problems later. We had one incident with a company during this placement season, not naming it for obvious reasons. One batchmate of mine had worked for that company before joining IMI and had left without paying the bond amount. Incidentally, he was one of the candidates who qualified for the final round of interview of the same company. The company kept him on hold just for his background check and as expected, rejected him after a couple of days.

Although I think that bonds are legally enforceable, most companies don't take the legal route to get back the bond amount, the probable reason being the amount of effort spent in following this process.

friends wil SOP affect my admision too much.I think i messed up SOP for IITM

Hi
This is my first post in PG and I am really hoping for getting help here.
My profile:

10th (CBSE) : 83%
12th (CBSE) : 88%
Btech in CSE ( 2002- 2006 ) from JIIT - CGPA ~ 9.1
Extra Curriculars:
Not much , won a couple of debates, was Tech society representative for our branch, won a group singing competition etc.
Was part of the recreation company in office.
Work Experience ( pure developer) as on feb 2010 -> 3.6 yrs
First company was an embedded systems networking company for 3.5 yrs ( telecom , C, assembly, networking )
Second company is a company which makes routers ( quite a big giant)
I dont like coding much and would not like a technical career growth for myself. I think I would be happier in a different profile.
Why I think I want to do management:
1. Get second degree.
Reasons for not choosing an MS
i) Not interested in choosing a technical career ( sitting hours before a monitor, solving bugs, making algos and browsing through code)
ii) MS would take atleast 2 yrs abroad ( cannot leave parents in India for such a long time, need to be in India only)
2. Cannot transition from a development work to some other role in present job.Got hired for development work only,Not heard of shifts within company.
3. Arent aware of any companies that hire persons like me for other roles.Dont have any work experience except development, so hard to move to other roles just like that.
4. This is the best time where I can opt for full time study.Being a girl, need to get married in max two years time.
Present job is demanding, and would not get much time to prepare well.
The option for a part time MBA while working doesnt sound good to me because of work load and also the fact that I cannot continue with technical career for two more years.A
full time study would be better suited for me.
For an MBA , better if I do MBA from reputed institute/field since I would be taking a break from work for 1 or 2 years for this.
I am looking for help from pg as to how to chalk my career path now?
Also if someone knows any good career counsellors in bangalore plz do tell. Are there other options like SAP consultancy etc. for people like me?

Thanks a lot.

I think that you should look for 1 year MBA from ISB or IIM's , u have a very gud profile to make thru ISB and SP jain , look for MBA in IT profile , not only will it help you in getting thru a B - school , also it would later help u in lateral placements, the other route which one of my friends was also trying was to look for HR and IT in a combination( she had been working in SAP).Though for 1 year program from IIM , i think the work ex required is more than 5 years but u can still giv it a try.
