Hello Puys,
I will have 5 years of Work ex in IT by July. Was just wondering if taking CAT,JMET,IIFT,XAT etc would be a good idea?Do the IIMS,XLRI,IIFT and IIT's have guys with work ex like mine?Although I am preparing for GMAT , but just wanted some inputs.
Thanks,
Hi guys,
I am new to this forum and I hope somebody would help me out with my problem.
I am an engineering student who should have been done with his Btech this year! But I have loads of backlogs and although I am hoping to clear them off by next year (along with level 1 CFA as I have already finished studying 60% of it), my real problem still persists: I am not interested in Engg!
I want to go into finance abroad, and I want to assess my options.
I am not sure if this is required but anyway here's a summary of my percentages:
ICSE: 80.00% (Maths: 96/100)
Intermediate:86.7% (Maths : 148/150)
GRE: 1470 (Quant: 800/800)
GMAT: Not written yet, but if it is required I am sure I can score in the percentile of 90 plus because I am done studying it.
Engg. CGP: 6/10 approx. when I complete my backlogs but i am hoping it doesn't matter after I change my domain into finance.
Work Exp: Nil
So here are my questions, can I take up Ms Finance in USA in some university? Is it possible for someone who has done his Btech in engg?
(Forgive my ignorance but everyone in my circle is into engg and has no idea about finance so I need some help here).
And alternatively (or if it is not possible) , is there any course (abroad) which:
1. Can mark my transition into finance
2. Can land me up in a job (Less pay initially is fine with me) related to finance (Hopefully upon the completion of the said course)
3. Can synergize well with CFA (AIMR)
I could be studying CFA but until I am done with atleast it's Level 2 exam (which will take me two years) I would be without a job and I am already having a hard time convincing people here that it is actually a course and a reputed one at that!
And hope am not sounding too ambitious but even if it is, I'll give it my best!
Regards and thanks in advance!
hi,I have done masters in software engineering.
I have been placed in Wipro Technologies as a Project engineer ,having 15 months service agreement.CTC= 3-3.5 lacs p.a.
Also, placed in headstrong in Noida as an Associate, having 2 yrs of service agreement.CTC= 4 lacs p.a.
Which among the two is better to join as a fresher?
And if I have to switch to teaching profession after an year or so,will my industrial experience count or not?

Hi All,
I have observed that lots of threads get started with topics like "help me" ,"please advise" etc etc and clutter up the forum.
So i thought why not put up a thread where PGites can post their queries about their career and CAT dilemmas, advise and et al.
For starters,i have identified lots of threads like it.Am pasting the links here,it will be great if Mods can merge these threads with this one and let this thread act as an repository.
So guys post your queries and I am sure one or other senior PGites will respond.
Some of the links are:

Go for Headstrong......Dun think much about other options and even MBA is on ur mind, think about the bigger picture.......Service bond and all are nominal issues and should not be a cause of concern...........
Headstrong has a better exit value compared to Wipro.....
I am engineering graduate from BITS Pilani and have been working as an automation engineer with Michelin since gradutaing an about an year ago. I plan to pursue an MBA from a top bschool after 2 more years. In the meantime, I am interested in studying business law through a distance learning programme. I want to study business law more out of sheer interest and less because of any specific career goals. Frankly speaking, I am not too sure about the exact job opportunities it may open up post MBA, with about 3 years of prior work experience in the manufacturing sector.
What kind of course would be advisable in such a case? I have been considering to enroll for the CS programme at ICSI. The CS programme deals with much more than just business law but I believe that it would form a good combination with an MBA. I don't really intend to be a practicing CS, and I only intent to pass the examinations and not undergo the apprenticeship required for membership of ICSI. Would that be a good idea?
exit value means?
I have already done Masters in software engineering.
No plans for MBA.What does exit value mean here?
Hi guyz ! I am gearing up for CAT 2011. In quants i have almost finished Arun Sharma book and for DI i am using Nishit Sinha book. My doubt is about english preparation. I am 'Ok'ish in my english. My questions are,
1. What material/book should i use for english preparation. Please give
precise answers.
2. Off late i am interested about MOCKS offered by TIME, CL etc. I know i am late in deciding about mocks, but is it too late. Can i subscribe to any Test
series from JULY 15 or later? If so which test series?
3. I am not happy with the Nishit sinha books for DI. Is there a compilation of previous year questions or similar package for DI which i could use?
Please help ! Thanks for the wonderful threads by PAGALGUY ! You guuyz rockz !

For a course on Business Laws take a look at the MBL course offered by NLS Bangalore - it's a distance learning program and is accepted by the industry too ..

Hi
1. For verbal , first of all , do lot of reading online from sites like Arts & Letters Daily - ideas, criticism, debate .. atleast read 1 newspaper daily and try to comprehend all the new words you come across using dictionary . For questions, you can start off with coaching material of either TIME/CL/IMS and then move to sectional tests of verbal ... 1 test daily shall solve the purpose if followed by thorough analysis. Later, move on to past year mocks for verbal and solve them with analysis session for each mock .
For vocab, you can also refer to word power made easy .. and for some practice on basic VA questions stuff, Verbal Ability by Arun Sharma can be considered decent source.
2. It is not too late to subscribe for test series... would suggest to go for combination of TIME and CL test series. Enroll for both if possible.
3. The best resource of DI is past mocks. Try to get your hand on mocks of TIME and CL of last 3-4 years and solve caselets in them followed by the analysis.
Hope this helps

hey! my name is mitashu..i am doing bsc applied physical sciences from hansraj college..i have just given the 3rd year examination and will be giving cat this year.but the problem is that i failed in 2nd year so i had to repeat that year.so technically my graduation was supposed to be completed last year.i have calculated and my over all percentage in graduation is going to be around 60 to 63%.Do you think that me giving a year back will have implications on my selection if not into iims, any other good bschools such as FMS or XLRI..etc.Will it also affect my selection through GMAT ?? i hope you reply soon..thanx[/QUOTE)
technically speaking - you qualify the criteria mentioned by CAT on their website; So I do not think you have to worry about qualification. Even in the 2nd or the third stage - they look at percentage and do not decide on the basis of whether you dropped a year or you failed in one year.
Practically - you need to have a very good answer (during the interview stage) for why you failed after getting admission to Hansraj college ( I presume your 10th and 12 th percentages must be good)

NIBM was set up by RBI in consultation with Government- You do not have to worry about AICTE recognition. Moreover, Pune University and Department of scientific and Industrial research - both recognize it as a research centre.
If your aim is banking or finance - please go ahead - If you are placed with public sector bank in the roles that you have mentioned above (treasury and credit) - you will be sought after by the private banks

Regarding the bond .. take an opinion from a legal expert - it might cost you some money - but that will make clear your options vis a vis your employer
If you have a salary slip and experience certificate - you will only prove that you had this job you also need someone to provide a good reference check for your work .. make sure that you have good relations with your boss .:)

Hey guys I have completed my Bsc IT this year and I am planning to do MS from USA.I would like to know value of MS in India.Does a MS graduate from USA gets paid more than its counterpart in India.
I have heard from some people that MS people here in India are considered over-qualified and hence dont get job easily over here and even if they bag a job,pay is similar to a B.E/B.Tech graduate.
How true is above statement??
Is it worth doing MS if one does not plan to settle over in USA?
