Thanks in advance.

Buddy,

As far as i know, if you decide to go for PHD , then seeing your experience so far, i think you might end up building career purely in law, may be in a different role .

And if you go for MBA, then it might add a specific domain expertise coupled with your knowledge in law and help you building a career where you can have a mix of management and law.

So, you can decide as per your choice now ... and as far as going for probationary officer at this stage is concerned, i believe going for PHD/MBA is a better option .

Hope this helps

You can give a thought to writing GMAT and applying for Great Lakes and institutes on the same line.

The Exam is affected by 2 kinds of factors

A) In your control

B) Outside you control

Your past acads fall in B. Stop worrying about it. Just think of a good reason to present to the panel - when they ask you "Why poor Acads"

I think there is a thread on PG for that as well..

Focus on Factors in A ..Prep study analysis etc..

Not much specific Gyan will be available.

But you can look up some generic stuff...

  1. QUANT

As per the students opinion, Quant was of the level of CAT 2006. It was quite manageable. The cut-offs are expected to be higher. However, some well placed traps in Data Sufficiency questions may do the damage.
  1. VERBAL

Verbal was much like that of past two years. Many students observed that RCs were shorter as compared to past years.
  1. DI

Students found DI section the most time consuming mainly because of the few logical questions. Also, the questions that appeared in sets were presented the same way as RCs were - That is, all questions based on one set of data were on the same page. Here also, highlights were possible till the end of the set. RECOMMENDATIONS
  1. Stay cool! The test is manageable.
  2. It is pretty CAT and did not incline towards GRE or GMAT.
  3. All basic topics in Quant are important to be covered viz. Algebra, Arithmetic, Geometry etc.
  4. Practice more on Logical reasoning questions with long statements and only one question per set.
  5. Practice a lot of past CAT questions will help you gain confidence in handling the test!

You should also read "Connect the Dots" by the same author

While SHSF is about MBAs who became entrepreneurs.. this is about non MBA entrepreneurs..

As to the advisability of your taking up the entrepreneurial path depends on the feasibility of your business plan.. remember Dhirubahai Ambani was not an MBA ...but his sons are...

PGPX path is always an option later..

Hi,

It is a nice idea. But don't take any decision on an impulse. You should be make yourself which business you want to start. Gain proper knowledge about it. Also, find out how to register an organisation, etc.

Definitely your idea is a great one. Go ahead!! ;)

All the best!!

thanks a lot! any idea about the marks that fetched 95- 99%ile...(in 3:1 format)
Pressure mounts on day by day.Fear of not performing well haunts me. Sleepless nights, endless preparation makes me stressful.

Buddy,

First of all , mock scores are not the true reflection of your ultimate score on D-Day... there have been people who have scored really high scores despite low scores in mock.... So, be confident that if you are clear in your concepts of each and every section then you have an equal chance of scoring high as that of any other guy who is scoring high in mocks.

Secondly, CAT is not the end of the life .. even if you are not able to score high in this season .. then, it does not means that you cannot make a comeback in next season and get through elite b-schools .... also, CAT is not the only way to make a successful career.... there are many more exams and many elite b-schools which take scores of exams other than that of CAT! And there are many other options than MBA to achieve great heights in life.

So, keep your spirits high... take a break of a day or two and then get back to revision of mocks and analyzing mocks and i am sure you will do much better 😃

In the meantime, you can go through following videos as well 😃

No matter how tough is life, you can achieve much better than those who have easier life YouTube - Best Motivational video ever

Always keep confidence in yourself and always believe that you can win no matter what the situation is .... and just give your best without worrying about ultimate result YouTube - Motivational...Period!

Hi guyz.I am a newbie to this forum.

My academics........

X - 88%(Matriculation syllabus)
X II - 94%(Matriculation syllabus)
BE- Computer Science - 79%(With no history of arrears)

I am currently working as a Software Engineer at a Canada based software company at Tidel Park, CHENNAI. My work experience - 1 Year 2 Months

I am not a techie by core. But a Good performer(not a excellent one). I always had the thought that i have good interpersonal skills. So at the core of my heart i always had a wish to get a MBA.

Currently i am earning 3.25 Lakhs PA . Suddenly i thought of preparing for CAT(2011).So the following are my list of doubts..

1. Will a year(Daily 1 Hour preparation and weekends 4+4. Totally 12-13 HRS/Week) be sufficient for a beginner to get hold of CAT preps including sharpening my linguistic skills(English)?

2. I am totally pessimistic about clearing the CAT. Since i am ready to put the hard work, is it too difficult to be feared of?

3. If i join MBA(In the top 30-50 institutes ) after my second year of job, will i be earning less (than what i would have earned by staying in IT filed as programmer) after i walkout with a MBA degree?

4. Or should i opt for correspondence OR distance education MBA by continuing my Job....? Will this be a wise decision >?

Please help me guyz..

In most of the cases ... this much time is sufficient for preparing and cracking CAT if you use this time wisely ... distribute time appropiately among all 3 sections 😃

2. I am totally pessimistic about clearing the CAT. Since i am ready to put the hard work, is it too difficult to be feared of?

Hard work coupled with smart analysis of mocks and one's strengths and weaknesses along with right attitude are the only requirements for cracking CAT ... if you have them then the person with acads like you need not be pessimistic.... rather be optimistic , self confident and go ahead with preparation

3. If i join MBA(In the top 30-50 institutes ) after my second year of job, will i be earning less (than what i would have earned by staying in IT filed as programmer) after i walkout with a MBA degree?

Person with profile as yours should not target anything less than top 15 colleges .. no matter whether you end up earning more or less from colleges outside top 15 list ... so , no need to think about colleges in 30-50 rank bracket.

4. Or should i opt for correspondence OR distance education MBA by continuing my Job....? Will this be a wise decision >?

According to me , correspondence or distance mba do not add a significant value to one's knowledge as well as profile ... i always prefer as well as suggest people to go only for 2 year regular mba program as you get to explore many things during these 2 years of mba .... and 1 yr mba program for people with more than 4-5 years of work ex if they want to pursue career in their field of experience even after mba.

Hope this helps
