Hi guys. So those of you who know my activity here on pg will know that I had sent an email to the authorities of the Delhi Campus to seek some clarification about placements, etc. (Please view my previous post for a snippet of the email) Now I am currently waitlisted at 249, so I might convert it in the next movement itself, so this is not some trick to move the waitlist or any false information I am posting. This is going to be a long post, anyone interested in Delhi campus is recommended to read till the end. I will try my best to keep personal bias out of this post, and try to present the information objectively.
I received a reply from the Director of the Delhi Campus i.e. Fr. George Sebastian sir in the morning. Following is the main idea of the email:
1) XLRI culture follows a ongoing collective decision making.
2) One placement coordinator who operates along with the students, decisions are taken collectively where administration and students are actively involved.
3) SIP is the first major thing concerned with the first year students, hence it is mentioned on the offer letter
4) Decision about placements will be taken collectively where the students will also be taking part, later.
He asked me to call him for further queries, which I did.
I again reiterated my query about placement process, as well as structure of committees, etc. Following are the main ideas of the telephonic conversation:
1) Will be in Jamshedpur till SIP. Till then we can apply for any committees as per our choice and the selection procedure.
2) Upon coming to Delhi, it will be the responsibility of the first batch students to establish the culture in the new campus. This will obviously be based on the learning in the clubs while in Jamshedpur. We will be in touch with the peers from Jamshedpur campus virtually. The student body will comprise of both Jamshedpur and Delhi students. The decision for final placements will be taken with all the student body members from both the campuses for collective benefit.
3) Upon asked what are the possible outcomes to the placement decision which is yet to be taken, he replied that it can be possible that the consulting companies which earlier used to call the students to Mumbai/Delhi will now come to the Delhi campus, and the remaining companies in Jamshedpur.
4) I asked him will there be any bias or initial screening which would hamper our opportunities, he replied that we should not be worried about this. There won't be any companies which will prefer one campus over the other. We should also not be scared/concerned about being overshadowed by Jamshedpur students. He said it all comes down to your performance, knowledge of subjects, communication skills, etc which will land you a good job. Having good academics (not being a topper only) i.e. B+ and above grades and the apt skillset is enough, no one can hamper your chances.
5) He said that almost 50% of the batch gets placed via PPOs, and SIP is something we need to be concerned about, and that is along with the Jamshedpur students. Following that, lateral placements, after which, there are relatively less students left for campus placements, and the placement process usually gets over in 2 days, and we shouldn't be worried about it.
6) He has talked to many alumni and says that Delhi has relatively better connections w.r.t alumni.
This phone conversation lasted 11 mins, and he asked me to spread this information as possible, as there are a lot of students with similar doubts, and he can't invest the same amount of time talking to everyone. I request the readers to not doubt the credibility of this information, as I have absolutely no motive in posting wrong information or confusing fellow aspirants. Peace.
