[OFFICIAL] SP Jain School of Global Management (SPJSGM) | Dubai, Singapore, Sydney: MGB & Global MBA - Admissions 2024-26

Hi Shweta,

I am repeating my post here, pardon me for the trouble. I am looking forward to your reply.
------------------------------------------------------------
I had applied for GMBA April 2010 intake but was wait-listed. I am looking forward to November 2010 intake in I.T Management. I have few queries. I would appreciate if you could please help me out.

Below is my profile for reference.

1. 3.1 years of work experience in Cognizant till November 2010.
2. Good domain knowledge in Banking and Financials. Worked as technical resource and analyst in technical and business modules of the projects.
3. B.Tech , Computer Science from Punjab Technical University
4. 12th - 74%
5. 10th - 85%
6. Remarkable extra curriculars.

My queries:
1. What are the chances of getting through ? I am planning to appear for SPJAT.
2. What could be the reason for not getting an evaluation call last time. I scored 62 percentile in SPJAT last time. Does my profile lack in something that I need to work upon?
3. Will my previous application/SPJAT score affect my present application?
4. When is the first SPJAT test going to be held for this intake?

Thank you

~Preeta

Hi Shweta,

I had a few queries
1.As of now I am having an work ex of almost 2 yrs. Is it ok for the Nov intake? I am having decent acads (X-85% XII- 85% B.E(Computers) -64% ) and very good extra curriculars (loads of certificates and trophies)

2.I am yet to take GMAT but planning to take it by this July. Will I be late for the admission process for Nov intake.

3.Is there any kind of a preference for the people who apply early?

Thanks :)

Hi!

your queries are answered below-

1.we normally prefer to have students with 3 years minimum work experience. exceptions are only made incase of a student who has exceptionally high academics or aptitude test scores or good internships.I would recommend you to submit your application with as much details as possible about you and see if the Academic committee considers that.

2.the deadline for application is 15th sept. so its fine for you to take your GMAT in july.

3. there is no preference for early applications but admissions are on a first come first serve basis. so students who apply early will go through the evaluation rounds before and complete the process earlier.the seats that remain will be kept for the other rounds.

hi! preeta,

The admissions commitee considers all aspects of a candidate's application before shortlisting the candidate. in the normal course we prefer candidates with a minimum of 3 years minimum work experience. exceptions are only made incase of a student who has exceptionally high academics or aptitude test scores .

our cut-off percentile for SPJAT is 70. you can take the test more than once in which case we consider the best of your scores.the date for our next SPJAT will be announced shortly.

hi!

you can enter your revised percentage but this fact should be explained in the column given to provide additional information.

Hi Shweta,

Pardon me for posting so many queries. I am too keen on GMBA 😁

I passed 12 th from CBSE board. I had given an improvement exam in mathematics later on to improve my percentage. There was a significant improvement in my aggregate percentage after the improvement exam.
What percentage should i mention in the application, the original one or the revised one?

Please help.

Thanks again !

hi!

since you are looking at the EMBA programme, you need to write to [email protected] . Your query will be answered by them.

Hi,
i am a engineering graduate with over 3 years f experience in it...i am curently in dubai at lloking for the emba course...when do these courses begin? i did see tht there is one scheduled fror june.i would not be in a position to join that .so when can i expect the next course?

hi!

the first round of evaluations may be held around the end of June or mid-July. if your application is shortlisted you will be sent an email and your status will be updated online accordingly.

Hi,

When will be the evaluations. Submitted my application 15 days back

hi!

can you please be a little more specific as to what exactly you need to know about our placements.

Hi Rutty,

I would be applying for the GHRM course and would be taking a loan for that oo. Since the amount is huge, I wanted to know a little more on the placements in GHRM than what is mentioned on the website. Please help.

hi!

For the November 2010 intake, S P Jain would accept CAT results of the years 2008 and 2009 (results declared in Jan 2009 and Feb 2010 respectively), Our cut-off for CAT is normally 80 . there is no preference given to any particular year.

Hi Shweta,

I would like to know whether CAT 2008 score will be taken for November 2010 admissions. If so, is there any special advantage given/for CAT 2009/GMAT 2010 students?

I hope all will be treated equally by using some normalization method?

Thank you,
Vijay

Hi Niren,

The Admissions Committee normally takes all aspects of a student's profile before shortlisting them. We normally need a student to have a minimum of 3 years experience, a GMAt score of 650 and above and good academics apart from extra curriculars and other factors.

in your case since you are falling short of the minimum work exp. requirement stated by us, the committee would take note of your aptitude scores, academic performance, performance and growth at work, leadership abilities, internships etc. so when you submit your application put in as much information as possible about you so the committee can take note of these factors.

it is fine for you to take your GMAt in july.

Hi Shweta,

there are 650 plus posts in this forum and i am sure someone has already thanked you for the inputs you hav been giving to each and everyone...i had so many doubts and i read a few posts and this really worked for me...

I just had a few more clarifications ...would be extremely grateful if you can answer the same for me.

I have 2.8 yrs of work ex with.Acads -10th 62.8, 12th 70, B.Tech 60.4
Accolades are as below

F Facilitated with the Excellence award by GE-GDC.
F Acknowledged with the Bravo award for Customer Appreciation(Onsite Europe).

F Nominated for the prestigious Volunteer of the Year award by Satyam.
F Represented company's Basket Ball Team at various Hyderabad Corporate Basket Ball Tournaments.
F Identified as a critical resource to Business.

Now for my questions-
1. I want to apply for the Nov intake and plan to take GMAT in end July. Will my taking the test in july have any minuses as compared to those who have sent their application in may and june?
2. If i do get the required score of 650+ , how are my chances of getting through to SP Jain.

Thanks
Niren Kochhar

hi!

our cut-off for CAT is 80, since you have a score of 92.4 it is fair enough. we will now need to lookinto the other factors such as yoru work experience, academics, extracurriculars etc.

Hi Shweta ,

I want to apply for the NOV 2010 Batch . As of now I havent taken GMAT just have the CAT percentile of 92.4 . Is it good enuf for being considered for the program .

I have decent acads and pretty good extra curriculars .

Is the CAT score also a parameter for evaluation or is GMAT/ SPJAT the ones that can give u an edge .

Kindly reply back asap have to plan accordingly

Thanks
Archie

hi!

sorry we will not be able to accept your GMAt score taken in 2008.the dates for our next SPJAt will be announced shortly. you may submit your application now and later update us with your test score.

Hi
I have a query regarding GMAT validity.

The application form mentions that GMAT scores of 2009 and 2010 will be considered. I had given GMAT in 2008 Nov
Can my case be considered?

When is the internal aptitude test expected to be conducted? Can I submit the scores of this test later after submitting the initial application with this current GMAT score?

Dear Amit,

Your concerns are addressed below-

Facilities our facilities are world class and much ahead of most colleges. We have plenty of areas at the campus for group discussions. We have a cafeteria at the campus and just next to us there is a food court serving food from all over the world. Yes 4 stay in a room but the room is 450 sq ft, attached toilet, has a washing machine, air conditioned, has broad band internet and is very comfortable to live in.

Placements The average salary of the cohort is USD 27,600 (Rs 13 lakhs). The average Indian salary is Rs 9 lakhs and the international salary Rs 18 lakhs. The international placements are in Dubai and Singapore which have zero and 12% tax respectively and so the post tax salary is very high. The cost of living is no different than Mumbai or Delhi and hence it is quite reasonable to merge Indian and Foreign salaries. The average salary of Rs 13 lakhs puts us in the top 5 Indian schools. In the last 12 month itself we have placed over 50 students in Singapore with big brand companies. Only 15% of the current cohort remains to be placed.

Dear Swetha, Rutty,

I am an GMBA course aspirant. I have no doubt that SPJIMR mumbai has excellent reputation in India. But I am in pain to write this to you that I got disappointing, very negative feedback for the program when I talked to some of the current GMBA students. One of the students told me about Dubai campus that, campus and other facilities in dubai campus are not up to the international standard campus has no study or group discussion room.. and there is even no playing room. Campus has no canteen or cafeteria and students life has become miserable eating out everyday. Even in hostel room four people have to stay in one room. And worst part is the placements when whole india is hiring, even spjain Mumbai gave 100% placement, placements in GMBA program has been meager. I got to know that only around 40% people got placed in the latest pass-out batch (april 2010) and half of them got jobs by themselves and college helped them nothing. I also got to know that college authorities asked visiting companies to pay less and hire more students than paying high and hire less. As a result some of the students who were getting 12lacks per annum before mba ended up getting 8lacks per annum after mba.

One more thing which is very evident to me and I want to put question mark on is that even though college is charging fee in US dollars and UAE dinnars, it displays placements data in Indian rupees and that too it even outs all dubai and Singapore placements in Indian rupees, which clearly gives distorted picture. Please look at any other premier institutes website, they quotes Indian placements and foreign placements separately.

Here I want to make one thing clear that my intention is not to disparage SPjain Dubai/Singapore or the GMBA program, but to bring out the truth and the pain of the students in limelight. I hope you would like to explain and take appropriate actions for the benefit of all future students.

Amit

Hi!

We believe that special skills are required to become good consultants. As you can see the curriculum is very different and has been designed by consulting firms. Also there is a great emphasis to practice consulting. Many leading consulting firms will be associated with us and conduct workshops.

For functional consulting we think that companies would still be interested in selecting students from our different specializations if they have good domain knowledge.

Hi Shweta

as SP has started a new stream in Consulting...i want to know what will be its impact on other Streams....

dont u think with this the ppl from other streams will forever loose the opportunity to be placed in a consulting company..???

This specialisation means narrowing down the scope too much and closing doors for ppl from other streams to consulting profiles...

i mean specialisation in different fields like IT, Marketing etc is fine,
but Consulting looks more like specialisation for just a particular profile...

dont u think it will mean an end of opportunity to get profiles in companies like KPMG, Deloitte, Accenture consulting for ppl from other streams...????

this is very important as many ppl who join IT, Fin, Mark have a desire to opt for a profile in consulting...??

and finally what is the need for a separate specialisation in consulting when u can just offer electives in consulting and anyone from across the various streams can choose them as per his wish......and so all ppl can become eligible for consulting profiles....

Hi Rutty,

One of my friend is studying in your college. He says the college is good in all terms.... But he pointed out one thing, which I wanted to know from you. He says the college treats them like kids..... Whats the reason for such thinking of students there..... Please share ur thoughts....

Hi!

To be honest this is the first time we have heard of such a feedback from a student. Could you please ask your friend to be more specific as to what made him feel he was being treated like a kid.
At S P Jain, we are talking about candidates with an average age of 26- 27 who come to be trained to work in the new global economy and competitive market and to become tomorrows global leaders. We try and give them a 3 city experience to widen their spectrum of knowledge.
Recruiters vouch for the professionalism and strong corporate attitude exhibited by our students. All this can only happen when we treat and deal with students as mature adults.
You can also go through the link http://www.spjain.org/stud_life.asp to know more about student life at SPJain.

Hi Rutty,

My application number is 60018-IT. I have done my 12th class from a junior college under the Orissa State board (CHSE). In CHSE, the convention of calculating percentages is different and involves leaving out certain amount of marks from the extra optional subjects. The calculated total with my extra optional is provided on my marks card(please see attachment) itself and to calculate the percentage the following formula has to be applied:

(Marks with extra optional) / (Max Marks without Extra optional) * 100.

I have submitted my application with the 12th class percentage calculated as shown above. Is this permissible from SPJCM adcom's point of view or should I have used the conventional formula of (Total Marks Obtained) / (Max Marks) *100.

Please clear this confusion as I do not want my candidature to be rejected on the grounds of providing wrong information.

Thanks and Regards,
Tanay

Hi Rutty,

I want to opt for consulting and IT management for my specialization. In case I don't get selected for the consulting stream, will it affect my chances for IT managment?

Thanks, Shawks

Hi Rutty,

1)There ais no update on placements on the website for the current batch, so could you please update on the placement stats for the batch which passed out in April,10..?

2) I dont know if its true or not, I have heard that a lot of ppl have got placements through their own contacts in SP. Could you please tell how many got plcmnts through the SP placemnt cell and how many through their own contacts.?

3) IS there any assurance from SP jain to its students that it will support them to the very last..?? as I know in Indian B schools to place the students is taken very seriously.

In Indian B schools the practise is to support its students to the limits and the B schools take it very seriously. Though in foreign universities it is not so. I hope that the SP placemnt cell is 100% guided by indian practise and not by forign practise. I hope the placement cell thinking is not diluted by foreign practise and they dont want to be like them and they feel proud of the support they extend to its students and feel the drive to do this job, and infact there is no need to emulate them, instead the foreign universities should emulate the Indian pactise..!!:)

Hi! Tanay,

I believe you have already written to [email protected] with you query and have got a response for this.
Pls note since you an applicant the gmba id will be the right place of contact for any queries and concerns that you may have in future.

Hi!

The GMBA application lets the student to opt for any 2 specialisations in their order of preference. So incase the student doesnot qualify for the first choice he is assessed for the 2nd choice of specialisation.
In your case if consulting management in your first choice and IT management your 2nd choice you may go ahead and apply in the same manner your application will be assessed accordingly.
