Hi
I have a query regarding GMAT validity.

The application form mentions that GMAT scores of 2009 and 2010 will be considered. I had given GMAT in 2008 Nov
Can my case be considered?

When is the internal aptitude test expected to be conducted? Can I submit the scores of this test later after submitting the initial application with this current GMAT score?

Hi Rutty/Shweta,

When are the first round of evaluations going to be held ?

Regards,
Tanay.

Dear Swetha, Rutty,

I am an GMBA course aspirant. I have no doubt that SPJIMR mumbai has excellent reputation in India. But I am in pain to write this to you that I got disappointing, very negative feedback for the program when I talked to some of the current GMBA students. One of the students told me about Dubai campus that, campus and other facilities in dubai campus are not up to the international standard campus has no study or group discussion room.. and there is even no playing room. Campus has no canteen or cafeteria and students life has become miserable eating out everyday. Even in hostel room four people have to stay in one room. And worst part is the placements when whole india is hiring, even spjain Mumbai gave 100% placement, placements in GMBA program has been meager. I got to know that only around 40% people got placed in the latest pass-out batch (april 2010) and half of them got jobs by themselves and college helped them nothing. I also got to know that college authorities asked visiting companies to pay less and hire more students than paying high and hire less. As a result some of the students who were getting 12lacks per annum before mba ended up getting 8lacks per annum after mba.

One more thing which is very evident to me and I want to put question mark on is that even though college is charging fee in US dollars and UAE dinnars, it displays placements data in Indian rupees and that too it even outs all dubai and Singapore placements in Indian rupees, which clearly gives distorted picture. Please look at any other premier institutes website, they quotes Indian placements and foreign placements separately.

Here I want to make one thing clear that my intention is not to disparage SPjain Dubai/Singapore or the GMBA program, but to bring out the truth and the pain of the students in limelight. I hope you would like to explain and take appropriate actions for the benefit of all future students.

no canteen?? no cafeteria??..4 ppl in one room??..is this for real??where exactly did you get this info??
It would be better if Rutty clarifies this considering that ppl will be shelling out 16+lacs for the course.

Cheers

n yet they increase their fees every semester ?!?!?!?!
:S

Hi Shweta

as SP has started a new stream in Consulting...i want to know what will be its impact on other Streams....

dont u think with this the ppl from other streams will forever loose the opportunity to be placed in a consulting company..???

This specialisation means narrowing down the scope too much and closing doors for ppl from other streams to consulting profiles...

i mean specialisation in different fields like IT, Marketing etc is fine,
but Consulting looks more like specialisation for just a particular profile...

dont u think it will mean an end of opportunity to get profiles in companies like KPMG, Deloitte, Accenture consulting for ppl from other streams...????

this is very important as many ppl who join IT, Fin, Mark have a desire to opt for a profile in consulting...??

and finally what is the need for a separate specialisation in consulting when u can just offer electives in consulting and anyone from across the various streams can choose them as per his wish......and so all ppl can become eligible for consulting profiles....

Hi
I am an SPJCM alumnus, and would like to answer some of your queries :
1) There is absolutely nothing wrong with accomodation in either Dubai or Singapore. I have grown up all my life in B School campuses as my father is a prof. I have seen far worses living conditions in IIMs and XLRI. The Dubai accomodations are in 1 or 2 room apartments which are fairly spacious in my opinion. SIngapore accomodations are a bit cramped, but then our campus was in a prime location where land was very expensive. Both accomodations have table tennis, basketball and badminton facilities. SIngapore had a place to play cricket and volleyball as well. The Dubai campus has a very reasonably rpiced gym nearby.
2) The quality of faculty in the college was very good. We had some excellent teachers who taught us using innovative ways, which I will remember for a very long time to come.
3) I agree with some of your views on placement. The college does post AED and SGD salaries in INR, which is a very misleading thing to go. In my batch (Dec 08 - passed in Nov 09), the highest salary was about 60K USD pa (Vega Foods - location Ghana). The highest UAE salary was about 15K AED a month (KPMG). The highest Indian salary was about 15+L pa (Delhi based investment banking firm). We were very lucky as CTS picked up 35+ students in a single day. Note - this was exceptional.
4) I opted out of placement early in the placement season, so I had a 3rd party view of the whole process. Though I completely agree that the college has no obligation to 'place' a single student, I think the SPJCM placement cell does not function properly. It's not that they dont work hard, it's that they just dont have the right industry contacts. My junior batch had a very very slow placement season even though market recruitment have gone up significantly since I graduated.
5) The college makes you sign a placement rules letter after you join. This should be part of the joining docket for more transparency. If you don't sign this letter you cannot apply for placements. A copy of this signed letter is not kept with students, though it is available to those who ask to see it. One of the clauses in this letter is that if you apply to a company, and that company accepts you after interviews you cannot reject the company if it offers you more than 6Lpa salary (for India location). I am not saying this is an unfair rule, just that you are made to sign this after you join college and a copy of this letter is not left with you for ready reference.
6) The placement cell cannot help those with more than 5 years of pre MBA experience. The cell functions optimally for those with 2/3 years experience. I know one student (7 yrs exp) who has exceptional aptitude and experience who could not be referred to a suitable job till daate.
7) I know at least 2 students who are drawing a lesser salary today than pre MBA. Both are excellent in their studies and highly intelligent. This has partly to do with their mistake in choosing the right college for their aspirations and partly to do with the malfunctioning placement cell.

I have tried to be as objective as possible in my analysis of the course.
Please reach out to me for more information.

Regards
Soham

@punjabiboy: Unless you are very very clear about your career goals, don't go in for an MBA with specializations. Join a college with a generic MBA course. You will reap a lot of benefits later.

The information about college campus is not true. Please refer my post which I wrote above.

Hi!

you have written that you had applied for Placement required option so iam presuming that you have been made an offer too under the placements category . If this is so, then you need not worry even if you take a sabbatical from you current organisation.
So long as you have been offered under placements you have a choice whether to resign from your current organisation or come on a sabbatical.Either case you will still be eligible for placements at the end.

Hi,
i am a engineering graduate with over 3 years f experience in it...i am curently in dubai at lloking for the emba course...when do these courses begin? i did see tht there is one scheduled fror june.i would not be in a position to join that .so when can i expect the next course?

Hi Shweta,

I had applied for GMBA April 2010 intake but was wait-listed. I am looking forward to November 2010 intake in I.T Management. I have few queries. I would appreciate if you could please help me out.

Below is my profile for reference.

1. 3.1 years of work experience in Cognizant till November 2010.
2. Good domain knowledge in Banking and Financials. Worked as technical resource and analyst in technical and business modules of the projects.
3. B.Tech , Computer Science from Punjab Technical University
4. 12th - 74%
5. 10th - 85%
6. Remarkable extra curriculars.

My queries:
1. What are the chances of getting through ? I am planning to appear for SPJAT.
2. What could be the reason for not getting an evaluation call last time. I scored 62 percentile in SPJAT last time. Does my profile lack in something that I need to work upon?
3. Will my previous application/SPJAT score affect my present application?
4. When is the first SPJAT test going to be held for this intake?

Thank you

~Preeta

Hi,

When will be the evaluations. Submitted my application 15 days back

Hi Shweta,

Pardon me for posting so many queries. I am too keen on GMBA 😁

I passed 12 th from CBSE board. I had given an improvement exam in mathematics later on to improve my percentage. There was a significant improvement in my aggregate percentage after the improvement exam.
What percentage should i mention in the application, the original one or the revised one?

Please help.

Thanks again !

3. Now that the applications have started, can we apply and then update the scores since applications are viewed n processed on first-in-first-out basis or Do we have to apply only after we have valid scores???

Please Help!!

Hi!

If you have been made an offer under the 'placement' section you need not worry. you are at liberty to decide whether you wish to resign from your current organisation or come on a sabbatical. Your placements at the end of the programme will not be jeopardized by this.

Hi Shweta,

I have deffered admission for Nov-2010 batch. In the application I have selected the "placements required " option. However my current company giving me an option to go on study leave . If I get selected in any of the companies after completion of course , I can resign from current compay and the notice period can be taken care by payment of my current basic salary. I am ok with this option of the company however I wanted to know if it is ok to go for this option with respect to institute's placement services policies or hiring company policies , if there any.

Hi!

your queries are answered below-
1. the dates for our next SPJAT will be announced very soon. You need to keep checking the 'Announcements' section of the GMBA site for updates.
2. the scores of SPJAT taken now will be valid for Nov 10 and May/ June 11
3. Yes you can submit your application now without the SPJAt score. When you register for the SPJAt you have an option to enter your application number so we can map your scores to your application and send it for assessment.
