Hi,

Can any1 explain me how to solve Qs similar to 16 and 17 (QUICKLY in the exam) in the attachment below?

simplest way to do is convert 100 to base 6 and proceed ..

100 in base 6 is 244 then what ?
@joyjitpal said:100 in base 6 is 244 then what ?
base 6 - 0,1,2,3,4,5
base 6 (modified) --> 0,1,4,6,8,9
so 2 is 4 and 4 is 8 in modified
so 488
base 6 (modified) --> 0,1,4,6,8,9
so 2 is 4 and 4 is 8 in modified
so 488
what is the greater angle between the minute hand and hour hand of a clock at 4:16 am?
hour hand angle.. will be 120 + 16*1/2 = 128
and minute hand will be 16*6 = 96
difference will be 128-96 = 32deg
greater angle k liye subtract this from 360.
hence 328deg?

at 4.00 am angle between the hour hand and minute hand = 30*4 =120
now for every minute the hour hand covers half angle
and minute hand covers 6 degrees
so when time is 4.16 the angle covered by minute = 16*6 = 96
and by hour = 16*0.5 = 8
so 128 - 96 = 32
since the greater angle s asked 360-32 = 328

The distance AB is 12. The circle center A radius 8 and the circle center B radius 6 meet at P (and another point). A line through P meets the circles again at Q and R (with Q on the larger circle), so that QP = PR. Then the length of QP is(a) (120)^1/2 (b) (130)^1/2 (c) (160)^1/2 (d) none of the foregoing
A triangle has sides 13, 14, 15. It is rotated through 180 degrees about its centroid to form an overlapping triangle. What is the area of the union of the two triangles?(a) 84 (b) 56 (c) 126 (d) none of the foregoing

deres a simple formula derived 4 gettin d angles between d hour hand an minute hand which is: (30H-11M/2),where H is 4 nd m is 16..so ans is 32 deg and greater angle is 328 deg..

approach is correct but this type of questions are expected more in BANK PO's than CAT/XAT.

56...
The overlap is a hexagon, and there are six congruent triangles outside the hexagon, each similar to the original triangle and 1/3 the (linear) size (because the centroid divides the median in the ratio 2:1). So the area of the union is 4/3 times the area of the triangle. We have the semiperimeter s = 21, so by Heron's formula the triangle has area (21路8路7路6)^1/2 = 84.
this is the solution i have bt i have a doubt in it please clear it
