Official Quant thread for CAT 2013

@anitito123

Let the total time taken by air be 1/19*t for air , 16/19*t for water n 2/19*t for land..

Again, let the speed in air be 20/24*x, x/24 for water n 3/24*x for land..

Now, Total Distance= 20xt/19*24 + 16xt/19*24 + 6xt/19*24

=>3990 = 42xt/19*24, or, xt = 43320..

Thus, Distance by air = 20xt/19*24 = 1900...

LOL: The information of avg. speed of 42 km/hr was nt used by me.. :P

Water flows at the rate of 10m/min from a cylindrical pipe whose internal radius is 0.5cm. How long would it take to fill a conical vessel with top radius 20cm and depth 21cm.options: 11.2 min, 22.4 min, 44.8 min, 89.6 min
pie(.5)^2*1000 volume is filled in 1 min
1/3*pie*(20)^2*21-11.2 min

11.2 min?

pi*(.5)^2*1000-----> in 1 min
pi*(20)^2*21/3-------> in 8400*pi/3/250pi = 11.2 min
@gnehagarg @mailtoankit sahi jawab !!
@anitito123 let times be t,16t,2t and avg speeds be 20v,v,3v.
(20+16+6)vt = 3990 or vt = 95

for air, dist. = 20vt = 1900.

If r is the remainder when each of 1059,1417,2312 is divided by 'k' ,where k is an integer greater than 1,then the value of 'r+k' is :
1.164 2.179 3.343 4. 431

Please tell approach.

1417 - 1059 = 358
2312 - 1417 = 895

HCF (358,895) = 179 = k
rem when 179 divided by 1059 = 164 = r

so r + k = 164 + 179 =343?

343 ... div by its hcf the remainder will be same in each case... so 179 + 164 = 343

1/5??

@quant89
OA is 1/4..how did you get 1/5?
@mailtoankit @ravi.theja thanks!

p( land on a side ) = 4 * p ( land on vertical side ) ===> p( vertical side ) + p( horz side ) = 1===> p(vertcl side ) = 1/5
@anantn
actually im getting 2*cos inverse(.875)/360

@ravi.theja ardham kaledu explain cheyi!!
@anantn

See calculating TSA = (pi*r^2) + (pi*r^2) + (2*pi*r*0.5)
den d prob of landing vertically is equal on whole strip of (2*pi*r*0.5) i.e. pi*r
now prob = pi*r/TSA
substituting r = 1
i get ans as 1/3
galti se 1/5 likh diya pehele radius maine 2 le liya tha..

motham surface ( faces ) = 2 + 2 = 4 cm [ diameter ]

and vertical sides ==> 0.5 + 0.5 = 1 cm [ diameter ] ...so probability of showing a face wen coin is throwed is p(face) / [ p(face) + p(vertical side) ] = 4/5 => p(vertical) = 1/5 .

ante practical ga vertical side ravadam imposible..but here by considering dimensions ila cheyachu anna :)

@anantn do u hav the sol??
30% of the men are more than 25 years old and 80% of the men are less than or equal to 50 years old. 20% of all men play football. If 20% of the men above the age of 50 play football, what percentage of the football players are less than or equal to 50 years?
(a) 15% (b) 20% (c) 80% (d) 70%
