Farook marks up the price of an article by 50% and then offers a discount of 20% to Shahrukh. Shahrukh sells it for र20 more than the price at which he purchased it. If Shahrukh's selling price is 30% more than the original cost price of the article, then Shahrukh's profit percentage is 10%9%6.66%8.33% ANSfor farook let the cp = 100 mp = 150 so sp = 120for shahrukh cp = 120 sp = 120+20 = 140 profit = (20*100)120 = 16.66where I am doing mistake???
Shahrukh's selling price is 30% more than the original CP..140 is 40% more than the original CP
It should be like this
original CP = 200
marked price = 300
price after discount = 240
shahrukh's SP = 260
profit % = 20/240 = 8.33%

oh sorry(calculation mistake)
see let the cp be x
then,mp=1.5x
sp=1.2x=cp for shahrukh
sp of shahrukh=1.2x+20=1.3x(given in question)
from above x=200
hence cp for sharukh=240
profit=20
profit%=20/240=8.33%
In a country called Utopia, one year, a tax of 20% was levied on a person's income. The next year, the tax scheme changed and citizens were required to pay 1000 sirals besides y% on the earnings in excess of 5000 sirals. (y ‰  20) If a particular citizen still paid the same amount of tax on his income, which had not changed, what was his income (in sirals)?

0.2x = (x-5000)*y +1000
0.2x =1000*(1-5y) +xy
x *(0.2-y) = 1000 * 5 (0.2-y)
x = 5000 sirals

In a country called Utopia, one year, a tax of 20% was levied on a person's income.
The next year, the tax scheme changed and citizens were required to pay 1000 sirals
besides y% on the earnings in excess of 5000 sirals. (y != 20) If a particular citizen
still paid the same amount of tax on his income, which had not changed, what was his
income(in sirals)?

.20(I+5000) = 1000 + y/100*I
1/5*I = y/100*I
but y=20% here

so,income has to be 5000

25/5 + 5/5 = 6 zeroes.

Let income of person be x

tax is equal

.2*x=1000+(x-5000)*y/100

x((20-y)/100)=1000-50y
x=(1000-50y)/(20-y)*100

y=1,2,3,4,4--------
x=5000
