a, b, c, d are integers such that:a 1. Prime2. Perfect square3. Not a perfect square4. CBD
It seems only series such as this satisfies: 1,2,2,4 / 4 6 6 9 / 9 12 12 16 / and so on

so, a is a perfect square ?

Five years ago, the average age of a family consisting five members was 40 years. Four years ago, a child was born. If a year ago, a man aged 60 years died, what is the present average age (in years) of the family? 42.533.666.577.5
45*5+4-61/5=168/5=33.6

Three VP's regularly visit the plant on different days. Due to labour unrest, VP(HR) regularly visits the plant after a gap of 2 days . VP(operations) regularly visits the plant after a gap of 3 days. VP(sales) regularly visits the plant after a gap of 5 days. The VP's dont devaiate from their individual scheules. The CEO of the comapny meets them when all the three VPs meet. CEO is on leave from Jan 5 2012 to Jan 28 2012. Last time CEO met them was on Jan 3 2012. When is the next time CEO meet all the Vp's (1mark) (XAT 2012)Options : 1) Feb 2 2012 2)Feb 7 2012 3) Feb 8 2012 4) Feb 3 2012 5) None of these
LCM of 2,3,5 is 30
Difference between 3 and 31 jan is 28
Upto 2 difference becomes 30

ABC is an obtuse angled triangle whose sides are 7 cm, 16 cm and y cm where y is an integer. Find the number of possible values of y.

For an obtuse traingle,

c^2 > a^2 + b^2
where c is the largest side

i) let y be largest, then

y^2 > 16^2+7^2 = 305
y > 17

also y
so 18,19,20,21,22

ii) let 16 be largest side:

256 - 49 > y^2
y^2 y
also y + 7 > 16
y > 9
so y = 10,11,12,13,14

No madam. Answer is 8th feb. It is not LCM of 2 3 5
as they visit after a gap of 2 3 and 5. so they every 3rd 4th and 6th day

I tried it for almost 15 mins..had this question in my NMAT on 8th dec..the last number in the series was 150 though
Did not get it even then..marked 80

:splat: .. chillfactor Sir ke rehte yeh kaise bol sakte ho :splat:

Anyways, maine bhi try kiya tha nahi hua, maine yeh dekha

6, 12, 36, _ , 144

6 = 1*6
12 = 2*6
36 = 6*6
_ = _*6
144 = 24*6

I see that every number is divisible by 6, now 1,2,6,_, 24 is the issue

The differences seem to be perfect squares 1,4, and so on.. but 24 doesn't fit in.. :banghead:

720?
Let the 2 numbers be x and 6x
Since both are 3 digit numbers, the addition cannot be 504
Consider the addition to be the next multiple of 504 i.e. 1008
7x = 1008
x = 144
144+144*6 = 1008 (divisible by 504)

360
maximum possible number 999
maximum sum = 999+999 = 1998
maximum sum which is divisble by 504 is 504*3 = 1512
7X = 1512
x = 216
6x = 1296
So not possible
Now next highest number = 1008
7x = 1008 => x = 144
6x = 864
absolute difference = 720
