2 taps A and B can fill a tank in 20 hrs and 30 hrs respectively.Both were opened together and just when the tank should have been full it was noticed that an emptying pipe was also open. The emptying pipe was then closed and it took 6 hrs more to fill the tank. In how much time emptying pipe empties the full tank. Answer with solution
24?

20*30/(20+30)=12

Two pipes should have filled it in 12 hours.
but after 12 hours, it took 6 more hours ( half of the time in which the two pipes should have filled the tank)

=> the emptying pipe should have emptied half the tank in 12 hours.
=> the emptying tank will empty the full tank in 24 hours

let total capacity of tank be 60 units(lcm of 20,30)
efficiency of A and B be 3unit/hr and 2unit/hr respectively
normally,(without any emptying pipe)time taken by both of them together to fill the tank =60/2+3=12 hrs
let emptying rate of 3rd tap be x unit/hr
then ,work done by three pipes together in 12hrs = total capacity of tank - work done by A and B together for last 6hrs
12*(3+2-x)=60-6*(3+2)
from here x=2.5 unit /hr
then time taken by emptying pipe to empty the full tank=60/2.5=24hrs

Total units =60
a efficiency=3 units per hour
b efficiency =2 units per hour

It should fill the tank in 12 hours
C efficiency is c units per hour
60-12c/(3+2)=6
60-12c=30
30=12c
c=5/2 units per hour

60*2/5
24 hours

i just assumed 138 instead of 121 and solved

difference 4,16,36,64,100,144,196

infact answer will be 578 😛

yeah it was behaving like this..and then 121 kinda killed it all..

After 12 hours, it took 6 hours to fill to the two pipes.

From calculations, in 6 hours, the two pipes fill half the tank.
=> in previous 12 hours (the two pipes+ one emptying pipe) have filled half the tank.

we can make a direct conclusion from here=> in 12 hours, the emptying pipe has emptied half the tank :)
Let N be a 4 digit number in base 5. A converts it into decimal and finds that it is divisible by 7. M on the other hand assumes it to be a decimal number and observes that it is also divisible by 7. How many such N exist?

not...equations can be multiplied with k..so their ratio is 4 or 8

x,y and z are positive integers such that x ,y and z are positive integers such that x
z=x+200
y=201-x

x+y+z=x+201-x+x+200
=x+401

now y>x and y=201-x => x=100,y-101(foe x maximum)
so x+y+z=100+401=501!!
