OA 40 hai......but I'm confused between 39& 40........tell me ur approaches at least......
If he is taking 40 rests it means he has already for 120 min (including rest) irrespective of any way he choose 16m/min or 20m/2min. But still he has not reached the top as he is taking 40th rest. So any travelling after that wud increase time above 2 hrs, isnt it?
See..First we need to calculate for 16m/min speed... time required for covering 800m = 800/16=50 min..hence rest of the time he rests..so he rests for 70/2= 35 timesIf speed = 80m/min..It takes 80min to travel 800mtrs..rest of the time i.e, 40 minutes he has to rest since total should be 120 minutesSo he rests for 40 minutes..(4o times)
Isnt 40th rest is when he reaches top? Why to count that?
The average marks of section A students are 20% less than the average marks of section B students. On the other hand, the total marks of section A are 20% more than the total marks of section B. Thus, the number of students in section B is what percent of the number of students in section A?OPTIONS1) 4% 2) 150% 3) 25% 4) None of these

No..40th rest is not after he reaches the top..If that would have been the case..Then he would have reached the top in 139 minutes..isn't it?? But he reaches after 120 minutes..That means he rested for whole 40 minutes(consumed it completely)

No thts not 139 minutes. How r u getting 139? Its 119.

takin into consideration ur 2nd case.....after taking 39th rest in 117min he has travelled 780m uptil then.....den he vill take anoder 2mins to reach at d top......so he has travelled 800m in 119min with 39 rests.......but question has asked he has to reach dere in xactly 120 min......I hope u r getting my point of confusion.......

See...He can't be at the top in 120 minutes exactly in 2nd case..He can be at the top in 119 minutes.. I messed up!! So we would consider taking whole 120 minutes..and he waited for 1 minute at the top itself making it being counted in the answeer
39 is violating d condition given in d ques...{to reach the top in exactly 2 hours}
Still If u check... He is reaching the top in 119 minutes only... By any method... 40th rest is only after reaching top.... Anything right after jst the point reaching the top should be irrespective to us... We have to find upto when he reaches top only.... N if its violating the question then no possible sollution...
The climb from the foot to the top of a hill is 800 m. Amar climbs at 16 m/min and rests for 2 minutes or 20 m in 2 min and rest for 1 minute.If Amar has to reach the top in exactly 2 hours, what is the maximum number of rests that he can take?(a) 40 (b) 41 (c) 39 (d) 38
c) 39?
2 hours = 120 minutes
In 3 minutes he can either travel 16m or 20m So total time can be split into 40 3-minute intervals But the last time interval will not have any rests (since he has reached the hill top).

Arrey the question is ambiguous leave it If you want him to reach in exactly 120 mins you'll have to include last rest..If you don't want to count the time of the last rest, he won't reach in exactly 120 mins..either ways we have a problem.. So we'll let the problem rest

He can reach in 120 minutes exact! Take a rest before starting the journey. :P
