Thanks but ther is still a confusion !Now we know C is cheaper !What if the question is including both ---Q1. How much %age C is cheaper than B andQ2. How much %age B is dearer than C. ??
The bases and comparision would change.. For the second one.. If b and c are the respective prices of B and C, then it would be (b-c)/b* 100.

Hi,

Its like this..
10 Rs ==> 3 toffee per rupeee -- > 30 toffees
If you return 3 wraper you receive 1 tofeee

so 30 Wrapper ==> 10 toffees
Again 10 Wrapper ==== > 3 Toffeee + 1 Wrapper

Again 3 Toffee ==== > 1 Wrapper
So i am now left with two wrappers.

I will borrow one toffee from shopkeeper ;
When he gives me one toffee , I will have 3 Toffee ( i.e r Wrapper )

So i will give it to shopkeeper and get one toffee;
That toffee i will return to shopkeeper because i have borrowed one toffee !!

Here you are required to see by how much is C cheaper than B's price.. So C's price is the base.As such, mathematically it would be --> [ (1000/12 - 1000/8) / 1000/12 ] * 100That would come to - [ (8-12)/8 ] * 100 [A negative quantity - Quite obvious though].. Or C is cheaper by (12-8)/8 * 100.
i think base should be B..not sure though...plz confirm...

It would be C only.. Because we need to look from the perspective of C's price.

FYR, here's a good article.. Go through the percentage increase/decrease section.

Hope this would clear everything !
@ananyboss its coming 44 toffees plus 2 wrappers!!!!

Hi All,I am facing a big time confusion here, Please help.Q. B is of rs 1000/8 and C is of rs 1000/12.How much percentage is C's goods cheaper / dearer than B's. ?Ans. ( 12 - 8 )/ 8 * 100 OR (12 - 8 )/12 * 100Please explain with a small reason !! I really need to clarify this...
C is 33.33% cheaper than B..
in the denominator we take the one on which we are comparing.. ie the one that comes afer 'than' ..
Hope this helps :)

he will get 10 extra toffees.. will give.. 9 rappers to get 3 more.. then again give these 3 rappers to get one more.. in the end he will be left with 2 rappers so cant proceed. :)

at last he is left with 44 toffees and 2 wrappers. now what he can do is he can borrow 1 toffee from the shopkeeper, now he has 3 wrappers and 45 toffees. he will get one more toffee by returning the 3 wrappers now he has after borrowing a toffee. now he can return the borrowed one..
plz confirm!!!!

But we need 3 rappers to get one more right?
It is coming to be that he will be left with 2 rappers in the end..

Don't get confused. he borrowed one toffee, now he has 3 wrappers, now he will give that 3 wrappers for the toffee he borrowed. So, the maximum number of toffees he can get is 45.

its not about the shopkeeper's loyality towards u.. its about the maximum no of toffees he can manage to buy...bu hook or crook..
