Ramesh Jhanjhar, a famous stock analyst, invested in shares of four companies - A, B, C and D - in 2014. He invested Rs. 30 lakhs each in two of these companies and Rs. 20 lakhs each in the other two companies. He was expecting returns of 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% on the shares of companies A,B,C and D respectively. Two of these companies belonged to Software sector, and one out of these two announced twice the expected returns for the given year. Other two companies belonged to Power sector, and one out of these two announced one and half times the expected returns for the given year. For the other two companies the returns were the same as expected returns. Q.48
If return on the total investment was 51.5% in the given year, then which of following statements are definitely true?
(i) Company C belonged to software sector.
(ii) Company B belonged to Power sector and announced better than expected return.
(iii) Ramesh invested Rs. 20 lakhs in company C.
(iv) Company D belonged to Power sector and announced better than expected return.
I had solved it but found out the given return using hit and trial. Is there any better way other than hit and trial? Coz there will be in total 36 cases and hit and trial would not be the best way to guess I suppose.
