[Official] CAT 2013 Aspirants

@Mounicasri If u dont mind me answering, try ur level best NOT to quit ur job as it gets really tricky then. And as far as facing problems for a gap year is concerned, u will 100% face questions like Y u quit ur job, What u have been doing all this while, does quitting job mean u cannot multitask & then y should we take u over a guy who has cracked CAT while handling work pressure as well [If its a pressure interview, then they'l grill on this part]. So u have to prepare very well for these questions [and NO, answering with "CAT is my life/soul /final frontier & so I sacrificed everything for IIM" is NOT a good answer]. Usually its advisable NOT to quit ur job but incase u feel that there is no way u'l crack CAT while working, its atleast advisable for u to complete 25months atleast [IIM-A will give u 3 points then which will be v v v beneficial & IIM-C will give u 6/8 which again will help greatly]. Best of luck :)
@MBA_brat If u dont mind me answering,
1) it is only advisable to join B-grade colleges (A++ being A,B,C & A+ being L,XL,FMS & A being the other big names in top-15) if u know in ur heart that "I dont have what it takes to go to the top-15 colleges, NO MATTER WHAT" [Ofcourse keeping family condition, personal problems out of the equation]. U are obviously the best judge of it. If u think so, then it obviously does'nt make much sense wasting a year. But if u know that if i work hard & nullify the mistakes of this year, then next year i am gonna rock, then obviously aim for a higher colg & dont accept defeat.
2) Taking a gap year is always too risky. You should obviously join a job. please read the above post for more.
3) BPO work-ex is NOT considered in the top colgs of the country atleast. You may build up a strory of ur struggle around it to impress them in the PI but it will not be considered as work-ex proper.

Do some soul searching, zero in on something & stick to it TILL THE END. Best of luck :)

Hello Puys,

I am a BE Graduate(2006) and currenlty working as SAP Consultant for last ~7Years now.
Grads in 10-10+2 had been good (>80) and Appeared once for CAT in 2006 with 87%.

I have been working as a TECHNOFUNCTIONAL consultant in SCM & Opertaion with Indepth Knowledge of Operations.(Supply Chain).

But now after so many Years the Craze to appear once more in CAT has come-up because of the WORK EX/Foreign Language/Onsite Exposure factor.

1. I want to do Post grad from Indian B-School,not Outside India.
2. Executive MBA is my Target but if Full time is required that is also Fine.
3. What should be my strategy, Should I appear for GMAT?
4. Total Work Ex: 82 Months ( 6.10 Yrs ) , B.E 76% , 10th-85%,12th-81%.

Would need your Kind inputs on same.

@ordinary_guy
Thanks a lot for ur grt reply.
Yes, i feel i can do it.I don't know whether i'm being immature in such a decision.
As a simple Science(Physics Hons) graduate,i cannot get any high-paying good job.
If not BPO's , then i can manage some door-to-door sales job or bank sales jobs.
Are these ok?Can the interview panel pester me regarding why i did such a low profile job?

@ordinary_guy

Firstly thanks for volunteering and enlightening me with the info(I really didnt knew BPO is not considered).
I am actually scared because its a very big risk to invest a year. But i am also confident that i can get in good colleges(top 15) if i do try very well with all my strength.

And also a point to be highlighted,i will prepare for GMAT,XAT also apart from CAT.
How about doing some correspondence course regarding finance/law or atleast a MA in the mean time with preparation for the exams?

Wud that work ??i will be having a masters and i can prepare also??

Thanks for your help in advance.

This is not to be mentioned, but thing is that i seriously dont want to work in IT field.I dont like the work life here at all.All the while i did here is just for work experience.

Thanks for your help in advance.
@MBA_brat No u are not being immature AT ALL, Honestly.... I did'nt see ur tagline below before this but now i see that u got 89% this year. So its not at all difficult jumping from 89 to 97+. In an Ebook that i saw here in PG named AIWTSAC (all i wanted to say about cat), i saw a guy who turned around from a mere 67% (probably or less) to a whopping 99+. So its very achievable buddy. and as far as the job is concerned, no one is asking u to do a high paying job. As a matter of fact, i am pretty sure that 80% of the aspirants here earn "being B.Sc grad, i will not get a job". I think TCS itself recruits B.Sc graduates. Then, there is one in my IIM GD/PI/WAT class who has been working in an NGO for the last 18months . Obviously he doesnt earn much but thats a decent enough job too & he is now on the brink of an IIM call...There are really alot of options that u can come up with that does'nt demean you. Dont get frustrated so soon. Take some time to Weigh ur options first.

Guys ,plz help me regd this:

Which coaching institute is best to join in Pune
CL/TIMe/Genesis Mentors?
@Mounicasri You will see that there are a LOOOOT of people who ask this question about relevant certifications & its so relevant there is a separate thread about it as well. Obviously a good certification or learning a foreign language will add alot of weightage to ur profile. As for masters, strictly theoretically speaking, there is an extra marks attached to a Masters' Degree in shortlisting phase itself. But u will obviously face questions like "Y u did a Masters' degree" & ur answer CANNOT BE "bcoz i did'nt get a job/ bcoz i had no other option/ bcoz i wanted to do something along with my CAT prep". They will kill you then & there 😛 When u do something, there has to be a valid explanation for it. U obviously have to come up with a strong & logical answer (your GD/PI teacher will help u with that). So u see u will be the best judge whether u should take up a job or do a Masters (if u are interested about it) but whatever u do, DO SOMETHING. Dont take a Gap. Best of luck :)

My hopes have shattered of getting into an IIM.
Even though I have to prepare for Quant but I have to prepare for my Verbal section a lot.
Can anyone please give me some suggestions on how to improve my score in VA.
@ordinary_guy Hey mate, Can you tell me from where you inferred that BPO experience wont be accounted by the TOP 20 Bschools, AFAIK senior puys have mentioned that any Full Time work experience will be accounted and in my PI with IIM Ranchi (CAT 2009) my BPO experience of 7 months was considered, I even verified this with the panel, Please let me know the resource, let me cross verify again!!! Thanks:-)
