Guys our campussing is rumoured to be after the Pujas in 2nd half of October. CAt regstrtn is till Sept end. I have chosen a weekday slot. I am considering shifting it to a weekend so that I may sit for the interview. I don't think they'll visit the campus on a Sunday. Yet again, weekend slots are feared! Which slot should I go for??? Plz suggest.

Though no system is infallible but CAT does not even have any system of accountability through some audit trail of the exam evaluation system. I think time has come that both Prometric and the IIM conducting the test should be subjected to RTI or the scripts subject to judicial scrutiny. The system of firewall to prevent against scams; at least firewalls that can generate comfort to public at large is virtually non-existent. It is true that they will say that they have their own system but what are they or how good are they or can they be breeched if some insider is involved is not at all clear. It is all shrouded in secrecy and packaged with some unintelligible gobbledygook and thats about it. It is high time that they be answerable about the sanctity. It should not only be transparent but also appear to be transparent.

By: Arita SarkarInflated marks of 80 candidates have affected scores of all aspirants, as percentile is relative grading system.News about scores of 80 CAT candidates being inflated has left MBA aspirants angry, and the city-based management institutes surprised. Percentile scores being a relative grading system, the fraud has affected the percentiles of everybody who appeared for the exam. An anonymous caller had tipped off IIMKozhikode about the inflated marks of about 80 students, and the matter was reported on Thursday. The investigation in the case, which was lodged under the Information Technology Act by CAT convenor at IIM-K, is still on. All of the students in question belonged to the 99 and above percentile category. While deans of most city-based B schools expressed their shock over the rigging, they all seemed confident that none of the 80 students could have been from their college. Students, meanwhile, rued that the fudged scores have hampered their own chances of admission in an IIM. Shriram Krishnamurthy, currently pursuing Finance at S P Jain Institute of Management and Research, said, "I was shocked to hear the news. We worked so hard to prepare for the exam and then we heard about students getting it the easy way. I have several friends who missed out by just a per cent. It's not fair." Krishnamurthy, who scored a 95 percentile, was among lakhs of others who appeared for CAT. He added that even though these 80 candidates would be caught, the deserving candidates cannot win their entry back into an IIM. Another student, studying Finance at another B-school in the city, said she found it difficult to believe the news since CAT administration is so stringent about the exam rules. "When these many students score over 99 percentile, it definitely downgrades my score and hampers my chances. I could have gotten into IIM Bangalore," she said. She added that she had faith that the perpetrators would be duly punished and their admissions cancelled. The CAT convener, on behalf of all IIMs, had sent the scores of these 80 students to all non-IIM institutes. Dr D S Adhikari, dean of Institute for Technology and Management at Kharghar, said, "This is a very serious issue. Once the admissions are done, however, there isn't much that we can do. I'm sure there will be proper investigation. I feel there should be a probe by an independent agency." The admission process, meanwhile, has been completed and the academic session in most colleges began at the beginning of June. Meanwhile, none of the city management institutes reported any of these 80 candidates to be from their institute. "Our admission process is very different and extremely thorough. I'm sure IIMs will take the necessary precautions and I hope the individuals are caught," said Manesh L Shrikant, Dean of S P Jain College, considered one of the best management institutes in the country.

In previous 3 AIMCATs I got 94.5, 91.8 and 96.7 %iles, but in the latest one (1411), it dropped straight to 60! What can be the possible reasons? Plz guide seniors!

The students were all sitting there taking dictation, and when the professor repeated the sentence, they checked it to make sure they wrote it down all right. Then they wrote down the next sentence, and on and on. I was the only one who knew the professor was talking about objects with the same moment of inertia, and it was hard to figure out.I didn't see how they were going to learn anything from that. Here he was talking about moments of inertia, but there was no discussion about how hard it is to push a door open when you put heavy weights on the outside, compared to when you put them near the hinge--nothing!After the lecture, I talked to a student: "You take all those notes--what do you do with them?" "Oh, we study them," he says. "We'll have an exam.""What will the exam be like?""Very easy. I can tell you now one of the questions." He looks at his notebook and says, " 'When are two bodies equivalent?' And the answer is, 'Two bodies are considered equivalent if equal torques will produce equal acceleration.' So, you see, they could pass the examinations, and "learn" all this stuff, and not know anything at all, except what they had memorized."

@naivedyajain Dont just concentrate on IIMs. Of late a lot of emphasis has shifted towards academics. Something that you did in the past will come back to haunt you.
To be on the safer side aim 99.5+. Also you have XAT and SNAP. Both the exams have really good colleges. So you could target that too. All the best!!!

@nupurgoyal of late they have started giving too much importance to acads. Only few colleges are out of this league. But i would suggest just dont think about these things now. Worry about the things in your hand and thats CAT(SNAP, XAT et al)
Is MDI worthwhile for such a huge fees which is almost equal to IIM A???? Also the average CTC is only around 12 lacs. Please suggest should I register for it?????
@shivamgoel personal choice shivam. Many colleges have increased their fee this time around, and the fee is only going to go up(if you wait for another year).
Waise these things you think once you have got the calls.
Right now your focus should be on filling the forms of colleges of your choice and concentrating on the exam itself. Whether you want to join some college or not solely depends on whether you get a call from that college and on your conversion which will happen sometime next year.
So just keep focus and all the best!!!
