Hello Puys.!

Starting preparation for CAT '13.

CAT 2011 : 72 %tile, MAT : 98.73 %tile, MAH-Cet : 91.2 %tile, XAT : 74 %tile, SNAP : 82 %tile
Successful Converts : BIMTECH, Christ B'lore and ITM Navi Mumbai.

CAT 2012 : 75.2 %tile, MAT : 99.91 %tile, CMAT AIR : 2138, IIFT : Not selected 😠
Successful Converts : BIMTECH, SDMIMD, IMT Nagpur.

After dropping for 2 years, this year's CAT is a dream to get into a good B-school.
Hope I find some good travelers who are on the same path and believe in mutual help.

For all CAT aspirants : What I have learnt in these years, and seen on PG in the last 27 months is that don't compromise for an average college if you are afraid to drop an year. Won't be a wise choice. Have seen people who regret this. If at all there are other reasons like financial issue or something, then its comprehensible.

BTW, I am from Lucknow and working with HCL technologies, Noida for the past 13 months.

I have got IMT Gaziabad convert this year. I got 93.89% in CAT and 96% in XAT.My acads are not great 10th:77% and 12th:74.4%.

I have 19 months Work Ex and this was my first attempt at CAT and XAT. Should I write CAT again or take the offer?Please help am in a dilemma!

Guys, I had good acads in X, XII and graduation, but nothing worth mentioning in extra curriculars. Will that be a disadvantage even if I get a good CAT score? Will i fail to convert IIMs due to poor extra curriculars even if I perform well in GDPI?

Hi I have 6 yrs Work Ex. experience( 2 yrs. IT + 4 yrs. SCM).I have written CAT 2-3 times till now,not with serious prep. though getting %ile in lower 90's.Can you guys advise me if it would be right to go for a B School through CAT 2013 given my work ex.?Thanks

Are there any full length papers for CAT ? Screwed up CAT'12 cause lack of exam prep 😞 . Only those 3 hours went very bad for me despite overall prep was not so bad. Must have got many negatives. Guess 4 years in NIT made lousy for serious exams (semesters were a breeze :P).
This year will try again and focus on mock papers. Can anyone provide me of such?

It took me a while to craft this message please do read it , its very important .

hey guys i seriously need some carrier advice . I may sound lame but you being already done with your MBA , now a part of industry ,i have to tell you my mind is playing games with me , I have interest in tech side and management side (more inclined to management though) . Very recently i thought of giving CAT a try but i came to know that pursuing a MBA from abroad s more worth than any school from india (counting out ISB and IIM Ahmedabad ). My chances of securing a berth in IIM - A are very feeble as my graduation aggregate is just 73% . Even if i score high in CAT mostly i may not be receiving calls from IIM A or B , B being bangalore . So I have to settle myself with rest of IIMs old and new , of which new ones are not a better option .

I also gave a lot of thinking about GMAT . If I have to do MBA abroad i want to do it in ivy league colleges (kellogg,INSEAD,university of toronto , ISB, duke etc ) as you know the tution fee is expensive and until yo study in a good college you are prospects will be good . But i have lot of concerns when i think about GMAT .In my research i have found out that the avg work experience of any class in good univs abroad is 4 to 5 years . And while applying you may have known that the applicant should submit two essays. These essays are to written in such a way that they have to elucidate what leadership related activities you did in your life till now . So i can say i have few such activities on my name but i dont think they are enough to get me through the selection process .


What should i do now ?

1.Work for 4 more years (by the way coming june i will have one year experience in IT ) ?

2.Appear for cat ? and struggle hard to crack it , which makes me to leave my abrod mba dreams .


3.This option will be tricky . Like i said i have interest even in technology . So do a "MS in electronics from USA" , work there for 3 to 5 years and then apply for a MBA college . While doing MS including the academics i will also do some other ECA activities to fill the voids in my profile . Is it worth to do all this ?

My profile is not as robust as i want it to be to apply for good colleges till date.
10th - 90%
12th - 94%
graduation - 73%(ECE)
eca - decent(public speaking etc)work experience till date - 9 months (Software developer - IT @TCS)

SO which option is better (give a deep thought about the 3rd option ) ?

I need your advice on this ?

Join IMT -G. It is a good college. Reattempt only if time/money/constraints permit you. Another attepmt is very much plausible 😃 However, 19+12 months exp would be a tad bit on the higher side then. Please do some checks before you decide either way :thumbsup:
