Hello All,

I need a genuine advice friends.
I am a 2010 Btech Pass out,
Academics:
79.6 10th
70 12th
70.34 Btech

Working in Telecom Sector under Tender Management(kinda management profile)
Work Ex: as of now 30 months already

Good Extra Curricular: Placement Committee, Editorial, National Level PPTs

This year, have converted SIMS Pune(Symbiosis Inst of Management Studies)

Certainly miss on brands, IIM, FMS, MDI etc....

Is it a good thing to try for another year in look for IIMs, FMS .....
but there is uncertainty... Plus SIMS ROI is good,

Or join SIMS, try for another last CAT while attempt studying there and then switch...?
How feasible is the second option.... and How tough it becomes to prepare while being in an MBA curriculum already...??

Look forward to real advice guys....

Best Regards

@mumal123 apart from that i have practiced VA , LR , QA from CL's Test Gym which was really very good .

with 30 months work ex..u should be targeting only big boys...ie top 10..max 20...nothing beyond

Found some good study material at below link.

http://testprepmaterials.blogspot.in/

Hope this will be helpful.

Let's crack it together

Seniors Please Help!!

Planning to write CAT 2013.

Presently working in Accenture, have an exp of 6 months.

10th 92

12th 80

Engg(Mech) 65

Extra Curriculars: None worth mentioning.

What are my chances of IIM's (not the new one's) ?

ZERO or Do I have a shot at it?

I'm pretty good at aptitude and if I dedicate time, I can surely crack CAT.

But I want only top IIM'S. Do i have a chance? Please Help.

Thanks in advance

A Worried Pagal

@ABCILK If u dont mind me answering, assuming, u are General+Male, unfortunately, ABKIS are pretty much impossible. C does'nt have any weightage on grad score during shortlisting, but on the negative, if ur class-12 score had been >= 81, u would've needed 99.61 (like any other G+E+M). But just bcoz of 80%, u need 309.84 now precisely (99.7+). U can expect L call at 99.6+ (a little higher than others since u are already missing out for not being a girl or non-engg PLUS u are not gonna score highly in the class-12, grad, work-ex portion. So a little higher needed.)..... But when u are talking of the TOP ones & not aiming for FMS/XL/MDI, its practically a sin 😃 They are BETTER than some of the institutes mentioned in ur username 😃 [Cant mention which ones :P] and with a high CAT score, u are practically assured of a seat in them even with a below average GD/PI (not XLRI though. 😛 It lays a lot of emphasis on ur PI even if u are the friggin topper) ... So u see, u indeed have a lot of options if u can exploit ur "good aptitude" :)
@DrazoonHarry If u dont mind me answering buddy, SIMS is a bit of a huge step-down in ur career. SIBM-P---> I still could understand but SIMS is too average. The 2nd option that u mentioned is practically not feasible, over & above the monetary factor. Once u get in a B-School & try to acclimatise with its rigour, its practically impossible to handle your prep simultaneously [If u had been a topper, I could still understand but going by ur calls, I guess u need to work much harder]..... If it is possible, u should continue in ur job & aim 1 last time for the top-20 [some top IIMs maybe out of reach at ur profile but then there are plenty more good B-Schools that will help u get to ur goal].... Even if u fail, its not gonna be a HUGE setback as u could complete 60 months & aim for an 1-yr MBA... So u have many avenues open still. Dont settle for mediocrity so easily.... Best of luck :)

any 1 have cl mock questions with solution??? really need it fr preparation.... plzzzz send me the link.. pm me... i was in time last yr bt this tym really want to solve cl mocks.......

hello puys...my profile:
10th- 91%
12th- 89%
grad- 71% ( UP Technical Univ.)
work ex- family business (unfortunately didnt get placed anywhere)

CAT 2011- 90.6
CAT 2012- 91.76
@ordinary_guy plz suggest whether at dis profile shud i go for a drop nd write cat 13 (as sum f d top bschools focus 2 much on acads nd my grad is vry low)or shud i join clg dis yr itself....plz help

@simplydevesh If I am not wrong, then at 91.76, u must be having calls from colgs like IMT, IMI, TAPMI, IMNU, LBSIM, FORE etc, right? 😲 Though u did'nt mention if u are a fresh graduate ( or been working for long, but I honestly think that u should try again than settle for these mediocre colleges.... I say this ONLY bcoz ur profile is not something that one can easily disregard, its pretty good & u have very good chances in MOST top colleges. And u have mentioned working in ur family business with a sad smiley but I really don't get WHY????? 😲 Its the biggest boon that u can get now [Since its ur father's business, its not that u have to slog it out like others. U can easily stay at home & study hard & at the same time, ur work ex continues to build :P].... If by the grace of God, u score high, then firstly, the interviewers don't have to know that u did'nt get placed & secondly u already have ur reason ready (no matter how fake it is :P] as to why u wanna do ur MBA [want to become an entrepreneur, want to take over my dad's business & expand it by leaps and bounds, a sad story about how ur father has struggled to set up the business and it is ur ultimate goal to see it reach the skies & redeem the honour of ur family etc etc ---> this is the track that I would have followed had I been in ur spot 😛 As going by what I have seen in my IIM interviews, they are suckers for it if u are convincing enough 😛 UNFORTUNATE for me though as that story is a dead end for me 😞 ]. So if its not too much pressure on u & ur parents, maybe u can contemplate studying very hard this last time coz rising from 92 to 98 is really not a big deal. U should come up with an organised & proper routine (join a coaching maybe) & follow it to the core....Best of luck on whatever u decide as at the end of it all, ITS UR LIFE :)

@@ordinary_guy Thanks a lot for the detailed reply 😃 I am even looking forward to colleges like XLRI(yes, way better than many IIM's in my username), FMS( The best ROI ever for an MBA degree), MDI(haven't researched much about it, but the Tzinga CEO did his first MBA here :P) What are your views about JBIMS, SJMSoM and Narsee Monjee? I have written my GRE, have got a 325/340, so I do have options of doing an MS in MIS in decent universirties abroad. Could you help me regarding this? What would be better? What should i aim for? How would you comapare an MIS in CMU, UIC with the MDI's and similar colleges?

Thanks in advance :-)

@ordinary_guy Btw, I forgot to mention, I am general + male 😲 I'm very keen on doing an MBA in India's top 10!

can u guys tell me hw 2 prep 4 DI and quant? and is RS aggarwal sufficient for LR for CAT?

@ordinary_guy I am G+E+F n i have got 10th 92, 12th 78, BE (MECH) 62 n have 7 months work-ex. What are my chances to get into top 15 mba colleges n how much should i score
@DrazoonHarry Believe me its not easy. Though I have friends who did this, it is definitely not easy. The thing that matters most is - Your desire and fire to study. The next issue comes out to be how strenuous the MBA college is. If you get comfortable with both, probably you can do it.

If you can clear SIMS again without difficulty, then I suggest you drop one more year but make it your last atttempt. around 40 months is an ideal work ex for MBA from an IIM. ATB.
@sur17 A single books is never sufficient for the entire section. For LR DI, consider the following -

1) Solve Puzzle books.
2) Logical Reasoning Books of coaching institute like TIME/CL/TestFunda etc..
3) Solve past year CAT papers i.e. 98-2008.
4) Keep updated with the LRDI thread here on pagalguy.

Solve Mock CAT, see the type of questions that you are not comfortable with. Then put your head down and keep practicing those questions. You can try Arun Sharma or RS agrawal or any other book for that purpose.

I hope this helps.
