All The Best :thumbsup::thumbsup:
Hey some body post your experiences...
it would be helpful for others....
No offence meant to anyone, especially my fellow participants who didnt get through. I guess i have been just lucky during the day.
(getting a topic which i was comfortable with, for GD, definitely involved some luck.)
Important tips:
1) The reporting time is 1 hr before the scheduled time. I had taken the 9am slot, so i had to report by 8. (am saying this cos one guy was late, and reported at 9 instead)
2) attest all your certificate copies. (you just need to sign on them)
2) Be fast in your psychometric test. 10 is the time allotted. They did not give me any warning until the actual 10 mins was up. (i couldnt complete:banghead:)
3) Group interview - Do not have any prepared answers. For one thing they ll never let you complete (what you have in mind), so you ll start feeling bad. Secondly they just dont want you to give such answers. so even if you have a prepared answered make it seem like its spontaneous. Questions can be technical (depending on your background) or current affairs or the HR stuff.
4) GD - Dont keep talking just for the sake of saying something. You need to make sense and be crisp. The guy who spoke the most in my group got eliminated. so its not just the quantity but the quality that matters. Obvoiusly you need some quantity as well. Needless to say, the guy who didnt speak much also got eliminated. Ultimately what matters is how much you know abt the topic. If you are lucky you ll get a topic which you know... So start praying :P
5) After GD/GI, there is elimination. Then you got the "stress interview'. All i can say "may God be with you". It can get really stressful though they say, "lets just have a chat. no need to be stressed". The girl next to me almost started crying. Her voice started breaking. (just to give you a hint of the level of stress that happen). NEVER LIE to anything, especially in the stress int. Under all the stress and rapid firing questions you cannot keep a track of all the lies and u may end up contradicting yourself.
The questions are based on the profile sheet you filled. they question you on the values/adversity stuff you filled up. Hope you hadnt cooked up ur hobbies. They question on that as well.
If you said painting as your hobby, the questions could be:
Where have you exhibited your paintings
What is special abt Van Gogh paintings
Why is that people pay so much for MF hussains paintings
At the end of it, they just see how you react under pressure. So if you werent able to ans any particular question, you dont have to worry. Cos they ll keep asking questions till you end up in such a position, and probably even ridicule you for not knowing (just to add a lil more pressure).
Watch out for the next episode. where i give a detailed explanation of how my day went....
Call details: Finance Score based call
X: 94.xx
XII : 89.xx
Grad : B.com (finance) - 83.XX
Work ex - Nil (internship from GS)
CAT - 95.xx
Something special abt me: i have taken part in a lot of extra-curricular activities (national level business fests) and member of college council.
Experience:
Registration
First you gotta show your ID proof and CAT/XAT score card (printout). Then you gotta submit all the xeroxes of you marks card, extra-curricular activities, etc. Remember, they have to be self attested. (you just need to sign on all the copies).
Psychometric test:
The psychometric test started at 9.00am sharp.
You have exactly 10 mins. (too less)
30 Multiple choice questions to be answered. The questions are of personal nature. Some questions might need a lil bit of introspection. There is no right or wrong answer in it. (Ex: i find it very comfortable while talking to strangers and the options are - totally agree, agree, disagree, totally disagree)
Then you had to select some of these statements which you think is a highlight of your personality and justify/give examples.
10 mins is too less. I couldnt complete. :banghead:They did not even give any warning until the actual 10 mins was up.
Group interview/ Group discussion
The panel had three people. All male. One was an ex alumni, one from the industry and one senior faculty, all 50+. They looked very serious at first. But they turned out to be very friendly and jovial. My group had 5 people in it.
1) tell me something about yourself - I just made one statement abt where I did my graduation from, and he cut me off. He asked me who is "Joseph" (my college name is St. Joseph's"... It took me a moment to shake myself off from all the gyaan i was about to give:. i answered and the suddenly the topic was about my religious beliefs and what i think is common abt all religions and what is different among them :shocked::shocked:. I didnt get to say anything that i had planned for the "tell me something abt urself" question.
2) After one round of "tell me something abt urself", the remaining questions were based on the profile.
a) One guy was questioned about his social activities. Why do you do it? Is it not enough if you just pay taxes and not jump the signal?
b) everyone was questioned about work-ex (except me, i dont have work-ex). what exactly do you do? how do you find the work?
c) when they came to me they said - oh you ve just finished your grad. I took the opportunity to say why i decided not to start working right after my grad and why i need to do an MBA (the usual gyaan), etc.
d) one guy was asked about his adversity.
e) he asked me why finance. Since i was from commerce background he asked me to talk something abt the upcoming budget.
f) one guy was from Jharkand, so he was asked about the steel industry. what is diff between blast furnace and arc furnace.
g) one guy was asked abt 2g and 3g - technical stuff (he was working in that industry i guess).
there were many more questions. But i can hardly remember any more.
Stay tuned for the next episode - GD and SI.
With just 4 in the group, there was no fish market scenario.
Topic : the 2 g scam and the effect of the govt verdict (to cancel the licenses) on the telecom sector.
(C1, C2, C3, are all candidates in the GD) I was lucky to have got a topic which i knew very well....
C1: Was quite silent through out. twice the interviewer intervened to ask him if he's got anything to say. He said "i agree with C2, blah, blah.... "
wrong thing to do, cos they expect you to say something new and not just rephrase whats already said.
Status: not selected
C2:

Status: not selected
C3 (me): Was quite knowledgeable abt it. threw some numbers here and there (abt loss to govt, loss to comp, etc). I was able to put forth everything that i knew about the topic. Since the others didnt have much to say it was easy for me to make an impression.
At one point of time, I said everything that i could think off, stopped, hoped someone would continue, no one did, and i had to continue again to avoid a pause. So i had no trouble making an entry, in fact i was forced to make entry few times.
Status: Selected
C4: made few entries here and there. but whatever little he said made sense.
status: Selected
Interviewer: Where exactly is the scam element in it?
I think Raja just made a bad managerial decision. Should he be jailed for that? is it a criminal offence?
If 1.7 lakh crore was lost, where did the money go?
Why isnt there any trace of the money?
Why are the companies to suffer?
Do you think the SC made a wrong ruling?
C1: again didnt speak.
C2:
C3(me): answered all questions.
(judges really impressed)C4: Added in here and there.
Judges asked us to conclude. I made concluding statement...
Judges happy... Me happy

Had to wait for 10-15 mins for the next round....
even you ll have to wait for the next episode...
I came out of the GD, all proud and happy
. but it was short lived....:splat:First of all i dint know it was going to be a Stress Interview:splat:.
The panel had two people. One lady (50+) and an old man (60+).
Both looked very serious and stern, even though they were smiling. They said you can relax. We ll just have a chat. I know you are all smart and good, thats why you have made it till here... We just need to know what kind of a person you are....etc...
First all were asked to tell something abt ourselves. They werent interested in what we had to say. They were looking for some specific points. So they kept interrupting and asked about what they were looking for.
Since i was good in EX-curricular i wanted to talk abt it.
Conversation script
"I am very much interested in participating...... (cut off)... what does your father do? Answered... like i was saying, I am very much interested...... (cut off)... what abt your mother? answered.... And i like to participate in ..... (cut off)... What are your hobbies"
EC activities were my USP. But in neither rounds they let me talk abt it. Hope they read the form and consider them...
C1: Questioned abt what she had written in the "strong stand on values" column. They didnt seem convinced with what she had written. We were also asked to give opinion about the situation. She was grilled for almost 15 mins on this one topic. It was the attitude and the voice in which the questions were asked, that caused the stress.
Me: was asked about same "strong stand on values" column. They felt i had made up something just for the sake of writing (which was not the case). However they didnt seem convinced. They made it obvious that they werent convinced with all their expressions. . they seemed like they were not interested in any of my explanations. (it could have been their tactic to add stress)
C3: questioned about hobbies. Says movies. Asked who won oscar last time, who ll win this time, etc, etc. He didnt know. Says travelling. Asked abt places visited, amt spent, date of journey, abt the travel fare...
C4: Asked abt hobby. says jogging... asked how much do you run every day. he fumbled for sometime, before finally answering 6km. "thats not much" was the response". You like to watch tennins, how come you dont play?
ME: I was hoping to get a question on my hobbies...
Chess : i was ready to give out the notations of the famous chess openings.
Guess they didnt know much abt chess, didnt ask any question. Karate: hoping to show some kicks and punches...
again they didnt ask.Music: i told i linkin park was my favourite band. They didnt exactly look like LP fan.
Didnt ask.Books: they asked which book? gave the list... including 'world is flat'. Do you agree with the author. Give me 5 reasons why world is not flat. I started explaining. Cut me off. Just give me five points. Told 3 couldnt think of more, started explaining my view, again cut me off... After speaking to the others, they came back to me. could you think of more reasons? Like i was saying...cut me off... I am not interested in what you already said. do you have anything new or you are just asting my time. i said 1 point which i remembered from the book... She reacted "of all the things in the world, thats the only thing you could think off!!!!":shock::shock:. :-(
You were involved in organising your college fest... what was the budget.. told... how many people attended.. told... How much was spent on Food... (actually the treasury dept handled all the money stuff. My work was to design the events, align them with the theme, Co-ordinate various rounds, ensure everything goes as per schedule, etc. didnt have much clue abt the budget). so i said i dont know all the details... You said you organised it, how can you not know... Ma'am the total work was divided... cut me off... ma'am, diff dept handled diff work... cut me off... ma'am i was mainly involved with ... cut me off... ma'am my work was only to ... cut me off... She just didnt let me explain...:-(
The girl next to me got screwed more than me. (I dont want to get into all the questions, cos it was based on her profile and would help you puys much.) She almost started crying at one point.
I was feeling more and more depressed as time went. I tried hard to smile, but it was almost impossible. I figured everyone was going through the same. Some how i feel i have not been able to convey the magnitude of the stress in this article. The tone in which they spoke and the way they reacted (angry expression sometimes) is what added the stress.
But at the end they told : its ok if you havent answered any particular question. we just wanted to see how you react. After hearing this i felt a lil relieved. So one can never know how well the performance was. Keeping my fingers crossed... really nervous... Really hope i get through...
I know it was really lengthy... But i have covered only 50% of the questions... hope you found something useful...
I have a query... for the issues related to general awareness, is it like the panelists put up questions to the entire group and whoever answers them first gets the brownie points..? or do they address questions to everyone separately...?
The GD related questions were common to all. Who every could answer it first definitely got the points (but of course you gotta be right). If you are wrong, they put across the question again for the others to answer.
But if you were right, they move on to the next question. So its good if you answer first and get it right. (otherwise you might not get a chance).
But the other questions were directed specifically at a particular person.
Dont worry... You wont have any trouble spotting that. Cos if its to a particular person they would all turn to you and say "So, mathnik... you are from finance background, tell me something abt....."
just hold down a sec !!

2. Are u referring to the 2nd GI as stress int.?

seems like everyone didnt get a stress interview... depends all on the panel i guess.
So dont go in with any prejudice (i dont know if that's the correct word
)Just dont expect anything. when things are not what you expect, you wont be able to perform well... All you need to d is stay calm...

Thats the golden mantra for SPJIMR interviews..
Given the calls:seats ratio (very close to 11/12:1, 2k+ calls for 180 seats) more so very high for a specialisation like finance where its close to 19/20:1 it becomes all the more important to remain calm and go with an uncluttered mind..
