hmm... i hv been reading tht MBA is a better option for career change and CFA for career enhancement...
They say tht a post-grad in finance is a more detailed study of Fin and MBA(Fin) is a general mgmt course with fin but not as detailed as post-grad.
Now, i was browsing the websites of some of the universities in UK and what they mentioned was tht their post-grad in Finance course was based on CFA and covered 70% of CFA (i.e L1 & L2) etc...
I also saw their syllabus and it was not very much different than CFA (except for the post-grad in quant finance). There is no point in spending Rs 20 lakh for MSc Fin in UK if u r already CFA.
all this has confused me bcos it seems to me tht CFA is the higher level finance course, then post-grad in Fin, and then MBA finance (in terms of how much of finance study is there) i.e.: just like - CA is >= post-grad in accountancy CFA is >= post-grad in finance and post-grad fin >= MBA fin (in terms of finance subject)
then CFA shuld hv good mkt val for ppl wanting to get into finance, shldn't it? puys, wht is u'r take on these 3 courses? which is the best for wht?

well..there is a difference in MBA in fin and CFA....in MBA,you will get network, talented people around, internationally renowned faculties, opporutunity for internship, placements chances, most important is faculties who would teach you thing thru their life experience......well you cant get all those by sitting at home, studying for CFA on your own, internship and placements on your own....thats why UK/US/ANY B SCHOOL take 20 lakh.....having said all those i m also a graduate and pursuing CFA on my own...not yet planned for MBA...........there would always be shortcomings in doing anything in your life....:new_ukliam2:
I am a computer professional with BTECH from DCE and MTECH frm IIT Delhi. I have around 6 years of professional telecom embedded experience. I now want to move to management and looking for a profile where my earlier experience could be utilized. So I am thinking of doing MBA in finance and in addition to it looking for a good course that could help me make financial concepts stronger.
Will CFA help in it or is there some other course?
CFA is any day a good choice, but if you want to just make your financial concepts stronger then i dont think you should go for it.....
If you want to add in term of value to your MBA finance then you can certainly go for CFA, many MBA's and CA's while persuing there course do go for CFA but that helps them a great deal in there future as CFA is a very reputed course in international finance....
So just for knowledge sake... NO
Career enhancements and value addition to your career ...YES...
This is what i think....
Take care,

thanks buddy for hte quick reply. I am in looking for a move in 1-2 years to a gud private equity firm where in I will be working on managing the telecom or IT based companies considering my relevant technical background.
With this idea in mind, will CFA help? I am confused since it is a gud and tough course and requires gud effort to clear.

Hey, CFA could help you only with finance related career like investment, M & A & like that. Please go through CFA Institute Home. This will give you fiar idea of CFA program & will also help you decide whether it will help you or not.
If you want to go in core finance then it certainly will help you. But from what i have heard wou atleast have to complete level 2 to get a good job. But again it depends on your profile & age too.

Welcome to PG,
I noticed that you have posted the same query in the following thread also. I understand the urgency, but that is considered as spamming on this forum.
Please refrain from that. Someone would eventually answer your query as soon as possible. People take out the time from there daily schedule & answer the queries, please appreciate that.

The best solution would be to email the CFA Institute and tell them about ur case.

Hey, from your post it seems you have not done research about CFA.
1. Please go through some of the initial posts of this thread. You will get a lot of information here. Read at least first 20 pages.
2. Then, do a little research on CFA Institute Home. This is the official website of CFA institute.
3. Work experience does not matter.
4. If you are doing MBA, why do you need other books to update with Finance ? Your course should give you enough stuff. And, then when you decide to go for CFA, read their own material & notes from Schweser / Stalla. That you will get to know as you research.
5. CFA is not tought anywhere. There is no college that awards this degree. The material will be sent to you by post. The exam will be taken on the selected centres & then you will get results.
6. Even though I am no CFA nor that I have done any level of CFA, I am telling you this from my the research that I have done - please think if getting CFA is in your line of goals.
