Your doing your B.com...and ALSO CA....both these course consume lots and lots of your time...CFA is better done while doin a job or (if already experienced or not) while preparin for your MBA (CAT SNAP XAT FMS)...besides you will need to submit proof(4 years education, etc) when applyin for 2nd level....

i would like to ask you...did u get offer from XLRI..already thru??..if yes then no need for CFA as you can pursue while doing MBA as rightly stated that CFA would enhance your finance knowledge in depth....but if you dont have any converted b-school with you..then you may look upon CFA...
as i said i m into your condtion and was in same dilemma as to have 3 work exp with no finance ..then what should i do...have been searching for this answer for 1 month by asking frens/blog/etc..as well as started studying..i can share somthing which i got it from different sources...
one concern of lot of guys is to get job after CFA in IB..would it be possible....??...if you look upon current scenarios...blood bath in security market..job cuts in IB...inflation....financial turmoil...even the existing analyst in IB have lost their job so current scnearios is risky..as CFA can only have jobs in finance sector whereas MBA would fetch you jobs anywhere you want...quite broad..having said that CFA is definitely much in depth than any mba in finance course in b-school..even people after completing mba in fin then go for CFA...but if you dont have mba atall..you can also get good jobs..i have couple of fren..named 2-3 atleast..who got jobs in investment research even after CFA level 1....but it was only till last year..as you might be knowing..2007 was the ever growing equity market we had....so i cant comment on current scearnios..what will happen....but if i talk about neurtal conditions..then CFA has its own value ...cuz recruiter do understand..that you have completed somthing worldclass finance course....until you have reasonable undertanding in finance you cant thru with level 2 for sure....even guys who completed CFA from ICFAI also got awesome jobs in banks...so i m yet hopefull....but praying to current blood bath to be over soon....
it is a risk..but according to risk-return tradoff theory in CFA books...;)..until you opt for high risk how would you expect the high return..but obviously with care....
Thanks ashish for the reply.
Last thing i would like to know ---as i understand CFA can be done while persuing your own job as well...Will this add to my current profile after doing CFA in next 2 yeras..will my experience get counted or i would be joining as fresher and will end up getting lesser salary than the present one...
Thanks ashish for the reply.

if you would have been in some finance field then only it would be considered.....since you are from IT then it wouldnt be consider atall.which is quite logical too....
you would be joining as fresher ,quite obvious, after doing CFA (like in MBA too people join in this way) but as far as salary is concerned....i can say entry level if it is not double of your current salary but it cud be at par...but i would look upon the prospects after it...as average CFA's salary increments much faster than any other field...so in salaries in IT field , 5-8yr down the line compare with CFA is nothing...even CFA institue provides salaries all over the world for CFAs....
have a look at the the
www.analystforum.com
this is a worldwide forum for CFA related discussion....quite good... search for salaries reviews..you will find of live CFAs all over the world who have given their salaries figure, their exprience along with lot of discussion with CFA aspirants..all questions you are having in your mind..just go their search for it....you will find the salary figures too..
also look at the below link for salaries figure

all level fees would come around 1 lac..why dont you go for personal loan...as i dont think so any bank would be providing loan for such a small amount as education loan.but not sure....
CFA is kinda of self-study so not very sure it would be counted for education loan..
Hi Rahul,
No need to go for personal loans...
You can get loans for Professional Courses Like CFA from Banks such as Punjab National Bank (PNB),Allahabad Bank.. and even HDFC bank(not sure)
You need to check the website of the respective banks and call there customer care to confirm the same and to know their interest rates...
This loan is given as education loan....
Moreover no need to take entire Rs.1 Lakh loan upfront, as you would be intially needing only around Rs.50,000 for CFA registeration and L1 exam fees.....
Moreover if you do some googling.. you would definetly get more bank's name which gives educaiton loan for courses like CFA....

Hi,
I needed some opinion on the cfa programme. I completed my bachelors in Economics last year, then worked for around 8 months in data analytics and quit in order to prepare for CAT2008/XAT, etc. I wish to study for the CFA June 2009 exams as well. Can someone please guide me as to what's the difficulty level of this exam and how much time needs to be devoted for this? Are there any coaching classes available in Delhi? Also, what is the overall fees including additional materials required for practicing problems etc..? Thanks in advance
if u register arnd oct-nov 08 for june 09, fees is around $950.
material will be sent by the CFA institute. else u can buy the schweser notes which are widely available in all cities. they are around 6-7 books....
level I paper is decent... not very tough if u have some background of finance..

Hey you are asking of salary after 8 years ! Man, no one can quote that. Is the salaryy the only motivation for opting for CFA ?
The only thing I can say is that figures will be very lucrative.
About $150000, yeah it's true but then it all depends on you. Not everone

hmm... i hv been reading tht MBA is a better option for career change and CFA for career enhancement...
They say tht a post-grad in finance is a more detailed study of Fin and MBA(Fin) is a general mgmt course with fin but not as detailed as post-grad.
Now, i was browsing the websites of some of the universities in UK and what they mentioned was tht their post-grad in Finance course was based on CFA and covered 70% of CFA (i.e L1 & L2) etc...
I also saw their syllabus and it was not very much different than CFA (except for the post-grad in quant finance). There is no point in spending Rs 20 lakh for MSc Fin in UK if u r already CFA.
all this has confused me bcos it seems to me tht CFA is the higher level finance course, then post-grad in Fin, and then MBA finance (in terms of how much of finance study is there)
i.e.: just like - CA is >= post-grad in accountancy
CFA is >= post-grad in finance
and post-grad fin >= MBA fin (in terms of finance subject)
then CFA shuld hv good mkt val for ppl wanting to get into finance, shldn't it?
puys, wht is u'r take on these 3 courses? which is the best for wht?
