Hey, I am a 2008 BTech frm IIT Delhi and can help you out on this.Whether the CFA charter would be helpful to you or not depends upon your career goals. If you plan to specialize in Finance after you MBA with out a shadow of doubt, you should go ahead with it.I am taking LEvel 1 in Decemeber 2008 and plan to take Level 2 in June 2009.I m also taking CAT2008.The point is at the IIM if you r looking at a career in Finance then IIT+CFA Levels 1 and 2 should help you get an internship in any of the financial services heavyweights very easily.
About your 2nd qn you need to decide yourself about how you are gonna manage CFA and CAT along with your job.For CFA Level 1 the official word is that you need to put in 250 hrs.So depending upon your level of input to CAT2008 and your job, you should plan to take the CFA exam.
No I haven't cleared CFA, I am also preparing for L1..
Only Three types of calculators are allowed by CFA institutes
1.TI BA II Plus 2.TI BA II Plus Professional 3.HP 12 C
TI BA II Plus and TI BA II Plus Professional both are allowed and both have sufficient functions needed for the CFA exam, so if you want to save Rs.700-800 then you can go for TI BA II Plus for Rs.2050.
You have to choose only from the three above mentioned calculators no other calculators are allowed.

As of now no test centres are allowed in India as the case against CFA is going on, the final hearing of the case is on 25th August as per CFA's web site so only after that date a decision would be made on making India as one of the test centre...
As an alternative you can opt for Singapore, the flights for Singapore are cheap from Bangalore and Chennai @ Rs.14k return fare so your total cost for the trip could be around Rs.20k.
You can also try for cheap locations such as Nepal,Srilanka... but considering political instability in these countries Singapore is much safer..
The final hearing is scheduled for Aug 25.I expect the hearing to be in favour of the CFA Institute. As of now, I have registered for Kathmandu. The 1st deadline for Dec 2008 has already passed. The 2nd deadline is somewhere in August i think. The cost is 1078$ for the Level 1 Registartion and Exam. costs related to travelling and boarding are extra.

I m in d first year of bcom now... When is d earlist date i can give level 1 and d others subsequently? Can i give it the in dec 2010...ie 3rd and final year of my graduation in bcom?If to choose among these dates regarding my eligibility in terms of graduation degree which is d earlist date i can give-june 2010(i have my BCom 2nd year exams during this month..so one can regard me in 2 nd year at this time),dec 2010(i would have passed on to 3rd year ie final year),june 2011(would b having 3rd year exams) or dec 2011(my graduation will b cmplte by then)
Can u tell me after clearing all levels ie level 3 what d initial salary range?ie domestic and foreign? If yes pls do tell me about ur source too from where u got this info... (In a post of 2007 someone said after crossing the 3 levels ur initial salary ranges between $100000-$140000 ie without getting the charter which we get after 4 years of CONDITIONAL service...Is is true?)
Going through a thraed i found someone talking about CFA partners providing CFA and MBA together? Is it more useful than CFA?Are the pays better? If yes pls give me al d info u have..
A hearty Thnaks in adv to all who rep to this message and help me in changing the turmoil going on in my head to normal... 😃 😃 😃 😉
Kindly have a look at the entry requirement for CFA CFA Program Entrance Requirements Have a U.S. bachelors (or equivalent) degree or be in the final year of your bachelor's degree program at the time of registration, scheduled to receive a bachelor's degree (students who successfully complete Level I of the CFA examination will not be allowed to progress to Level II until CFA Institute receives degree confirmation); or have four years of qualified, professional work experience or a combination of work and college experience that totals at least four years
Based on the above requirement you can plan when to take the exam (i.e dec 2010 or June 2011) ,you can also mail to CFA Institute stating your case As far as the salary goes ,it depends upon your work exp and addnl qualifications.
