HELLO friends i am willing to enroll for L1 just wondering will i gt those books and stuff wich were mentioned in previous posts in kolkata >???
n aproximately hw much will it cost in totality and r we allowed nw to appear frm india ??

Well when you register for L1 you would get the books from CFA institute itself, from this year they have started giving the study material once you register.

Also you can read from the online stuff mentioned, but a physical book is much better and which you will anyways get once you register for the exam.

In total it would cost you Rs.80,000 for all the three level exams,
For L1 alone it would cost you around Rs.20000 for registeration and Rs.20000 for L1 exam, there after Rs.20000 for subsequent level.

As of now registeration of exams in India is still not allowed so even for December you would have to give the exam from outside India.

I hope i have cleared all your doubts.

Take care,

My profile-IT(Cognizant) with almost 3 years work ex Age 24
Have made 2 unsuccessful attempts at CAT.I wish to pursue some major financial course like CFA this year.I will definitely be pursuing MBA next year. My dream is to work as a business consultant/Analyst in firms like BCG,Mckinsey.I don't wish to have a career as a fund manager or likewise job. Will CFA be suitable for me.I desperately wish to pursue some good course in Finance/Business so that i have a good knowledge abt the Subject while pursuing MBA.Also, in the worst case if am not able to pursue MBA,i should be capable of shifting from IT to Business domain..
Can one pursue CFA if one dreams of becoming a Business consultant after MBA. I know that Business consultant sounds vague. What i mean is that I do not wish to be in a job which requires monitoring of shares and stocks only..Hope am clear..
Plz reply guys..

In case you want to get into capital markets side: Equity research or capital mkts research, trading ,sales, portfolio mgmt: CFA is the most helpful designation. :D
If you are damn focussed on consulting/business side: CFA won't be much of help, other than a bullet point on CV! 😃

Hi there ppl.. Im joining IITK for my MBA, and was just looking at all options for career enhancement along with an MBA when i hit upon this thing called CFA and ICWA.

While im sure about the synergies a pure finance course can provide to an MBA, im clueless about the difference between ICWA and a CFA.

Can anybody explain to a noob like me what they both are and as a career decision which can provide more value addition if im looking at Strategic Mgmt as my long term spec.

A few queries...

1) people are talking about stalla and schweser notes for cfa prep...Is the course material provided for level 1 along with enrollment not sufficient..an honest reply would be appreciated from both schools of thoughts...i mean people preferring original cfa curriculum to stalla and schweser and vica versa...

2) I am about to start with my prep...Would appreciate if someone can guide me with the subjects to start..List them as per the most important, difficult and easy ones...

Would apprecite if my post doesnt get ignored...

1) I gave CFA L1 last year, so am not sure about the quality/quantity of material provided by CFA institute. However, from what I have heard, this material is 2800-3000 pages long. Even though it might provide deep insight into the curriculum, keeping this much in your head is an uphill task.

Compare this to Schweser (I did not use Stella, so cannot comment). It is around 700-800 pages and the notes are very very crisp. Core fundamentals are well explained and its practice/exam questions very closely resemble those on the actual exam.

In summary, I would suggest studying Schweser notes thoroughly. Incase some topic areas are not clear or need further understanding, go to CFA insti material and clarify doubts/get deeper understanding.

2) I have attached my study schedule for CFA L1 that I cleared last December. The topics that carry more weightage are the important ones. Toughness of the material depends on one's background and comfort zone.

Hope all this helps.

Cheers!

Thnaks KKJ for the reply...

I bought 2008 yr books of cfa from ber sarai in delhi for 1700 (i might have paid more than req but did not have any idea, though i did bargain). I am planning to appear for level 1 in Dec 2008, yet to register. Anyone else preparing for dec please reply, we can plan together about the centre to choose et al.

I am also in IITD 2008-2010 batch planning to take CFA dec2008 or june 2009. i think we can collobarate.
Lets crack it in dec 2008 only.
