Hi,
Regarding your doubts,
1.After registeration CFA institutues do give you study material, this is the first year CFA institute has started giving study material.
2.As i told you this is the first time they are giving the material i can not answer your second question, but since the material is given from CFA institute itself i feel it shoud be more than sufficient to clear the exam.
3. In the past most of the students were referring to Scheswer notes, at present i am referring to the same notes.
4. Address for Mumbai for getting CFA Xerox Notes.
laxmi zerox centre.
opp mithibai college
Vileparle west
Mumbai
.Mr. Paresh 9819024256
Level 1 notes for Rs 1850/-
5. I am from mumbai..
6. You can buy the calculator from India it would cost you between Rs.2500-2900
I hope i was able to clear your doubts....
Take care..
Planning to take up the Dec 2008 L1 test. Profile: No finance BG or Work Ex.
Was going through the Schweser ebooks. Went through some 4-5 LOS in Finance Accounts, Corporate Finance and Economics. These are my assumptions and things I learnt:
1. Even with NO finance BG or Work Ex, you can understand the concepts.
2. The thing is so vast that I find it difficult to remember things even after reviewing the LOS 1-2 times after the initial studying.
3. I think ppl with no Finance BG might need 400-500 hours to learn & understand the concepts and hopefully pass the test.
Some doubts:
1. If I register for the test, do the CFA Institute give me Study materials?
2. Will that notes/study material be sufficient to clear the L1 exam?
3. Is Schweser notes sufficient to pass the exam?
4. Where I can get CFA notes (xerox) in Mumbai/Chennai? How much will it cost? Can anyone provide the telephone numbers of the shop?
5. Anyone preparing for L1 in Chennai? We can form a study group and maybe pool money and buy learning resources.
6. Where to buy calci? Is it better to buy in India or in the USA?
Looking forward for answers from you guys...
Thanks.

Hi, i am having a serious time deciding the level of importance of CFA.
I have currently been selected for the MBA program at IIFT Delhi.
I have no work-ex, am studying at NIT-Bhopal, electornics and comm engg.
Very normal acads (90% 10, 85.4 12th, 8.5+ in Btech till now).
How much important is CFA for me?
1. I want to specialise in finance, and my only reason for doing CFA is to give me an edge over the others.
2. Is there something else cheaper option available? (not the indian cfa, some other course alltogether)
3. What would be the best way to go about an MBA in finance for me? What should i study and what should be my targets?
Thanks a lot, hope your inputs would provide me a direction to stick to.

Ethics, Quant and Derivatives should be covered next.
Except Economics (which is full 1 Schweser book), everything else should be thoroughly revised. Also, I would suggest covering most of the 6 exams in Schweser book 6 - they are really helpful and CFA exam questions are of similar flavor at times. Hope this helps.
Cheers!
thanks kk for the help
i took a course in probability and stats last sem, so i am thinking to push quant a little further, also don't have my calci yet. planning to finish it in 3-4 days at around 15th may.
also, being an engineer, i am zukkkkkk... in economics. can you suggest something about it?
for now, i am reading all the core material and revising using Schweser pro Q bank. But planning to use schweser notes for Eco and quant since the time is short
How to tackle Ethics and Corporate Governance?
do we really have to mug them or only one(maybe two) readings would be necessary?
L1 Guys,
Revision is very important for this exam. Covering all the material is just not enough. At times, mind goes completely numb looking at the exam question even though you have covered the topic. This has happened to me - learn from experience and please take the revision aspect very seriously!

Schweser notes are more than enough.
Make quick readings for Economics; don't spend too much time understanding complex concepts - just get the main idea, e.g., What various curves/graphs compare against X/Y axis, etc. Most of the Eco questions are very basic and can be cracked, e.g., elasticity calculation, difference between various types of competitions, etc.
For Ethics, practice as many examples as possible. Even though Ethics seems to be easy, the answer choices are very close and one needs thorough practice. GIPS is also important, there are always a couple of questions on it.
A careful reading for Corporate Governance should be sufficient.
Cheers!
yeah i too realized that i'll have to revise thoroughly after taking a test yesterday. now on, i m specifically allocating some time every day for revising and question solving from the part i have covered.
also, what struck me was that Ethics has 15% weightage for just 4 readings. This is the most weighted topic area per reading in the whole course, and should not be ignored like that.
Alternative Investment is also 3% in just one reading, guess i am gonna attack them now.
I start off with a book, do half of it, and then get bored qand start of with the next.. Donno whats happening.. anyways, good news is that now I have 1 Month without any office for studying.. I hope I'll wrap up the course by 20th may..
Will I be able to complete the 2 volumes of questions (Scheweser - not sure bout spelling) in 10 days?
Please guide me! Thanks!
