Hey puys......me planning to take the L1 CFA test this december....for the start is going thru 'Principles Of Corporate Finance' by Richard A Brealey and co. (Tata McGraw Hill) helpful? I plan to register for the L1 this august.....so dont have any notes right now.....is it a good idea to buy this book to get a feel of finance(am a enggineer...so zilch knowledge of commerce

@vendetta: Not a bad idea. Maybe if you can get hold of some dude who is giving CFA L1 nearby your place and take a copy of his CF book from CFA, that would be better. Cant you register now? If so, doing that and studying from CFA books will help. Usually junta dont get time to study from CFA books and end up preparing from schewser. (Which is definitely good but more exam oriented. Studying once from the fat CFA books will help you understand concepts well and then schweser can be used to brush it up).
I would also suggest downloading the scheweser notes e-books quoted a few posts above. Guess you can find it here also. Welcome EliteBook.Net.

I have downloaded the Rc brown book and got its printouts n m looking forward to see for a book in C.Finance..im sure we can/should go in detail ,the area we are targetting in finance-accordingly we can get into it initially..

dun worry dude... You will still get decent enough package in India... India still has underdeveloped i-banking industry... lots more firms trying to grab a slice of the pie... and the pie too is gonna get bigger... atleast for next 3-5 years (leave 2008 as exception)...

Funny thing about wall street is they will cut jobs, but still pay good packages as bonus for those remaining. (though relative to previous years it would drop but on absolute scales, still very high). And as somebody rightly pointed out, Indian I Banking is just starting. Its a good industry to be in next 3-5 years.

I am in the IT industry and am seriously contemplating
doing a CFA L1 frm cfainstitute-usa. Could some puy here kindly clarify these rumours!
1.Will clearing CFA level-1 fetch an entry level job in an i-bank for arnd 6lpa?
2.Will clearing CFA level-2 fetch one arnd 20 lpa in a global i-bank?
I am not sure of the job profile and hence hav substantiated it with the package offered. don't mistake me for 'money-minded' chap though.:sly:
Will clearing the 2 levels of CFA alone, with no prior work-ex in the finance domain assure one with a job from an i-bank ?

Clearing CFA LEVEL 1 will NOT get you a job...
CFA is not a career changing course...if you want to change your career to finance you will need to do MBA(finance)...if you do clear level 1 and level 2 and you dont have any work ex...then you will be in trouble,you will not get a job..if lucky might get into finance(better option CHECK OUT NCFM derivatives and capital market)...CFA is a CAREER BOOSTER..NOT A CHANGER...read the other posts you will get lots of ideas...

Planning to take up the Dec 2008 L1 test. Profile: No finance BG or Work Ex.
Was going through the Schweser ebooks. Went through some 4-5 LOS in Finance Accounts, Corporate Finance and Economics. These are my assumptions and things I learnt:
1. Even with NO finance BG or Work Ex, you can understand the concepts.
2. The thing is so vast that I find it difficult to remember things even after reviewing the LOS 1-2 times after the initial studying.
3. I think ppl with no Finance BG might need 400-500 hours to learn & understand the concepts and hopefully pass the test.
Some doubts:
1. If I register for the test, do the CFA Institute give me Study materials?
2. Will that notes/study material be sufficient to clear the L1 exam?
3. Is Schweser notes sufficient to pass the exam?
4. Where I can get CFA notes (xerox) in Mumbai/Chennai? How much will it cost? Can anyone provide the telephone numbers of the shop?
5. Anyone preparing for L1 in Chennai? We can form a study group and maybe pool money and buy learning resources.
6. Where to buy calci? Is it better to buy in India or in the USA?

Yes, the Institute will provide you a study material, which will have detail insight of the level you will be taking up.

The material provided by CFA institute will be very detailed, I guess it is the maximum you should know for before taking exam.
3. Is Schweser notes sufficient to pass the exam?
Schweser's note is sufficient, it is not as detailed as CFA material, you wont be spending that much time to study all of it...required for the exam.

I guess in Mumbai, there is a shop in Vile Parle - Laxmi Xerox Center, someone had posted the telephone numbers and contact details in the same thread.

The simplest thing you can do is this
1. go to esnips.com (its a website for sharing e resources)
2. put in keywords "CFA 2008"
3. Download the ebooks
4. Take Printouts
anyways when you register for CFA you'll get the books. i guess they are plenty and much more
guys i know its a pain if you are not in bombay
anyways, do this, goto ebay.in
search for "BA II Plus"
the calci is available for Rs 2670 with bill and warranty. it costs total 2900 for the pro-plus including taxes and courier anywhere in india

actually my passport is lost/stolen. and can't be re-made in such a short time.
now all i have is my voter I card issued by govt of india;
however the prblm's that it has my name's spelling incorrect.
can i change the spelling for now and revert back to the original spelling after the exam on my personal updates page? (can someone who has taken LI check if the profile page is allowing you to update?)
also does the exam ticket mention the primary contact address on it?
