If ICFAI has bribed AICTE and delhi high court judges, then nothing is going to happen. It is not the best thing in life to be a citizen of India.
The whole world is laughing on India. I wonder why every mess takes place in India.
hi buddy, It is nothing to do wid bribe and all. For any institute to conduct exam in India 1 has to be affliated wid AICTE. And moreover ICFAI has a chance as CFA is taking all its students for CFA course. that's y v r ssing so much ebb nwdays.
hi im in final year of engineering and will be giving cat 08...i have a few questions regarding CFA 1) i want to persue an MBA in finance...i have heard that completing even level 1 of CFA is a big plus point...it adds a lot of weight to ur resume...how true is this?
2)there has been a lot of confusion regarding the CFA exam because of the high court decision...ICFAI also has a CFA course...how different are the two? is it worth doing it from ICFAI?

3)when is the level 1 exam held?
4)how much does it cost to give the level 1 exam?
please throw some light on my doubts
thanks
Shruti
1) yes even clearing level 1 adds a lot of weight to ur resume as it is a very prestigious professinal course and clearing level 1 is definately gonna add value
2) Yes there is something pending with the high court but 1 thing is for sure unless and untill the CFA insti gets itself accredited with AICTE till thn they wont b able to operate in India. Also, course of ICFAI is diff frm CFA as conducted by the US insti...course of ICFAI doesnt even compare to CFA course and wont be of gr8 value.
3) CFA level 1 exams are held in June and December, L 2 and L 3 only in June.
4) CFA level registeration costs something around $400 (m not too sure on the exact figure) and the min CFA L 1 exam fees is $ 200.

u can go in for FRm by GARP - course on risk management or u can go in for NSE certifications - these also add value to ur CV also with high expectations on CFA course to be again open soon, i wud suggest better wait for it and not go for ICFAI course as its not too much recognised in the industry
do the following topics constitute syllabus for level I or for all three levels? if it's for all three levels, which part form level I, II & III?
Topical Outline
CFA Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK)
I. ETHICAL AND PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS A. Professional Standards of Practice B. Ethical Practices
II. QUANTITATIVE METHODS A. Time Value of Money H. Tangible Assets with Low Liquidity
X. PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT AND WEALTH PLANNING A. Portfolio Concepts B. Management of Individual/Family Investor Portfolios C. Management of Institutional Investor Portfolios D. Pension Plans and Employee Benefit Funds E. Investment Manager Selection F. Other Institutional Investors G. Mutual Funds, Pooled Funds, and ETFs H. Economic Analysis and Setting Capital Market Expectations I. Tax Efficiency J. Asset Allocation (including Currency Overlay) K. Portfolio Construction and Revision L. Equity Portfolio Management Strategies M. Fixed Income Portfolio Management Strategies N. Alternative Investments Management Strategies O. Risk Management P. Execution of Portfolio Decisions (Trading) Q. Performance Evaluation R. Presentation of Performance Results
Guess this syllabus is there in all three levels, only the depth of study increases. e.g. portfolio mgmt in L1 would need basic study only whereas in L3 it would need in-depth knowledge. The topical weights in each level are given here: Topic Area Weights
The table below illustrates your subject matter strengths and weaknesses. The three columns on the right are marked with asterisks to indicate your performance on each question or topic area.
24 January Update As you know, because the CFA Program is not registered with the AICTE, CFA Institute has not been accepting CFA Program registrations from within India. Earlier this month, we met with the AICTE in order to understand our options, and we have now submitted our application to the AICTE. While our application is under consideration, we will continue to work with them to resume conducting the CFA exam at test centers in India.
We will now permit people within India to enroll in the CFA Program and register to sit for the June and December 2008 exams at test centers outside of India. We have revised our online registration process to reflect this availability. Again, we emphasize that we have not received approval from AICTE to offer the CFA exams at test centers in India, but people within India may select from more than 175 test centers around the world.
Thank you for your patience, good faith, and dedication to the CFA Program.
You can have a look at the test centers while registering ,there are 175 of them.
The following could be viable options
1.Nepal: Quite Close for people in the North and no visa for Indians. 2.Sri Lanka:If you are located in the South quite close and easy visa procedure. 3.Thailand: Cheap flights available from all major cities and closest for people in the East ,visa on arrival for Indians. 4.Hong Kong: Lots of flights available ,no visa required for Indians if stay is for less than 14 days. 5.Singapore:Again good connectivity and easy visa procedure.
As for me I have registered for my L3 in Bangkok .Reasons- Bad domestic situation in both Nepal and Sri Lanka and it costs about the same from Mumbai to go to these places or Thailand.I had given my L2 in Bangkok as well and the place is quite goos with reasonably priced hotels.
Return Flight to and Fro from Bangkok would cost about 17k and add another 10-12k for a 3-4 day stay.
One more query, If I choose Thailand as my test center, then could i be sure to allowed an entry into the country after stamping( the thai tourism website says that there are two ways to enter thailand:1. apply for a visa,2. get on the spot stamping for a period of 30 days). Assuming that a lot of we PUYS will be opting for Thailand, would it be possible for everyone to get a stamping as thats the easy method.
