the only solution that I can think of....."BURN down all ICFAI offices and ICFAI centers"...... 'cos thats the only way things get noticed in India. those ICFAI SOBs....
though i'm preparing for the Dec 2007 Lev 1 exams but i'm deeply hurt and shocked by the selfish attitude of the ICFAI ppl who are hell-bent on spoiling our future.
We as the citizens of this free country have the freedom of Choice and the Right to decide what we want to do in Life.
But the CFAI ppl are also to blame equally. where were they all this while. and now they are making a mockery of everything...like go to another country and take the exam ??!!!!! ask them to pay us the cost of travel and living outside India. with barely 10 days to go they are coming up with all sorts of wierd suggestions. It really shows their immaturity and inablity as a responsible institution.
yeah we shud actively take up this matter with the media and ensure that it comes in the limelight.
P.S.: please do NOT take the first line of my post seriously.
Burn The CFA of India Institute Guys They are only to blame One for There MisManagment Second For The Suit Against The ICFAI Third For the Add In the Newspapers Against ICFAI And Fourth For Playing with all The 10000 Students who have enrolled for the course...
Ask them guys and hope they will answer all of your question best of luck

We are now prepared to offer you alternate CFA exam centers outside India. We still have no indication that the CFA exams will be held on 03 June 2007 in India.
Many of you have contacted us with requests to change your test center. We have established this method as the only one by which you can change your test center, in order to keep the process as fair as possible. Although we are exploring every possibility, capacity limitations at some locations mean that these requests will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
Additionally, if you do make alternate test center arrangements, we are offering you a partial exam refund of US $300 in consideration of the inconvenience and disruption caused by this situation. After we have confirmed that you have taken the exam in one of the alternate test centers, we will process your refund by the end of July.
If we are able to hold the exams in India, we will honor your original test center: you will be able to sit at your current India location even if you requested a test center change outside India. If you have traveled outside of India and take the exam in an alternate location, you will still receive the US $300 even if we are able to hold the exams in India.
I have written a mail to CFA institue for deferral of the exam:
Hi, I am Level 1 candidate appearing from India. I am in a state of confusion right now and I do not have any idea what should I do.Amidst this confusion, I am hardly able to concentrate on my studies.I believe that CFA institute is doing all it can to make the exam happen on 3rd itself. However you must also consider the state of mind of candidates who would be appearing for the exam.
Hence, I request you to defer the exam by few days so that it will give enough time to get the clarity on the issue and by that time you could also get the regulatory clearance from the govt. There is no point in taking decisions in a hurry, it will not only put the hardwork the candidates has put in to prepare for the exam in danger but also it will jeopardise the reputation of CFA institute.
Hope to get a reply from you asap.
Regards,
PS: I also request everyone to write a mail to CFA institute, now they have to think about candidates also.
I've stopped preps having chosen option 1. This is how I interpreted their mail - Even if the exam is held on june 3rd in India, the cfa institute will reimburse everyone who has chosen option 1. Am I right?

I am not sure ,the options were part of a questionnaire meant to gauge initial response and was not binding ..
It's quite a commendable effort by CFA to try to resolve the issue. What I've figured out from the latest mail sent by them is: Case 1: in case India is not the centre- those who have opted for alternate centres can write their exam after confirmation of the new centre by CFA. $300 to be reimbursed by them after they appear for the exam.. and those who cannot make it, will get full refund of exam fees + registration fees by end of june. they will have to reapply for dec slot (for L1).
Case 2: in case India is the centre- everything will be followed as usual and candidates are expected to appear either at India centre or the alternate cantre as confirmed by CFA. $300 will be reimbursed if candidate appears at alternate centre. no refund of fees if India is the centre..
it seems it's a good option for people who have worked hard for the exam. they can fly down to singapore or some good location and have a sponsored holiday.. :satisfie::satisfie:

any comments??
ACTION is commendable...but too little too late.not blaming CFAI...but i cannot arrange to goto SL or somewhr on such short notice...passport/visa...thousand issues pending...plus hv some health prblms whch will bar me from travelling to plces whr m not sure if i can get medical help quickly :(
m sure there are mnay like me...so lest pray for Mumbai 07 happening !
Case 2: in case India is the centre- no refund of fees if India is the centre..
How is this fair? I can't fathom why they provided option 1 in their initial mail. If they don't intend to refund fees if India is the centre, the first option makes no sense. Guess I'll have to resume preps tonight 😐
i have a query what if i change the test centre and then am not able to get to the changed test center and the exam also doesnot take place in india. then will i be refunded the exam and enrollment fees
I called up the head office at charlottsville yesterday. Had initially taken option 2 and now wanted option 3. They said just send a mail which i did. Have filled up Nepal this time. But i seriously doubt if i'll get it. I mean 90% of us will be opting for nepal right? and the seating capacity there too would be limited.
Anyways, just to get an idea abt cost of travel, i did some search and here's wat i found :
1) all airlines are almost full 2) Those which aren't full have only business class seats available

writing on pg after a long time gladto be back 😃 As far as I interpreted the mail, it was not a questionnaire to get a overview of candidates mindset, rather it was options provided. CFA must have thought a lot before giving these options. So if i select option 1 and thn the exam happens on june 3 '07, i would be given option for refund or deferment. And i have doubt regarding refund including registration fees.

This was the statement written in the mail.
"If you were to take the exam outside India, please select which region you might prefer. This is for planning purposes only and will help us gauge initial interest. (You can see the complete list of locations on our website at www.cfainstitute.org/cfaprog/pdf/june_testcenters.pdf.)"
I think it's indirectly very clear that if exam is conducted in India, the candidates will not get any refund whatsoever except those 300 dollars for candidates who have appeared at other locations.
@ Shrikanthk: Dude, the options provided by them in first mail was just to take the feedback from the candidates so that they can come to a feasible solution. also considering the situation, i think its pretty fair to the candidates.
