@hardworking the honest question here is what is that you are looking at ....just a couple of degrees to showcase your skills to get a well paying job or more knowledge ?? I do not know much about CA vs CFA however I have worked with a couple of good CA's during my IT days ....and I think being a CA itself is a great achievement .....and I am sure that whatever u would have learned in CA , probably it would match in the CFA curriculum as well .......have u compared both off late ?? If I were you then I would do my CA very diligently , work for some 2-3 odd years and if needed I would do a good MBA .......Cheers
can anybody tell me wer exactly can i get cfa study material for level 1.....
@hardworking
the scope of CFA is immense and it is internationally recognised...no need to worry about the job opportunity after doing CFA

You'll get books for the L1 prep from "CFA Institute". Those are more then enough.
You'll have to refer some books only in L2

Yeah. I know that books will be provided from Institute people and they would suffice. But then basics needs to be strong enough before starting with it and I wanted to know more about Time Distribution and scheduling. :)

What job opportunities are available after L2 for a fresher
Hey Guys..please give me some guidance how to start preparing for CFA level-1. Which subjects do I need to focus most? What should be the time distribution for each subject? I haven't started my preparations yet.
Hi All I have cleared level 1 and 2 and I have written the details of the exam and exam pattern in my blog site www.azadkhayal.com/cfa-certifi.... You can read from the topic which has a higher waitage and then go with the lower weightage subject. I will post on how to prepare for Level very soon. But as a starting point I would to start with FSA

Checked the Blog. Nothing much useful there.
Better you guide us on how to start with CFA Level 1 Prep. Not the books part but the scheduling, which topics we need to focus more on et al. :D

Hi Friends,
I was just going through last few pages of the thread and found some queries here regarding CA and CFA, prospects after CFA L2 and L3, etc. I will try and give my views on these things so that fellow members can take informed decisions. I would not touch on points regarding which info can be found directly on CFA institute's website.
Regarding CA vs/and CFA- CFA is a world class certification and the designation is considered as Gold Standard in Investment management. Please note that I underlined the words investment management, that is exactly what (or supposed to!!) CFA program trains us with. Whereas a CA has nothing to do with Investment management as such, it lays more emphasis on tax aspects, audits, company laws, Accountancy. Both these courses serve different purpose, so its not correct to compare these two. However, if one still wants to compare the two, in my own opinion CA wins or stands out completely. Given the cost requirements of both the course and given the opportunities one is left with after having completed the course. After CFA, one should realistically not expect (exceptions are always there) to get a job in Big 4 org as a M&A; analyst or a job in corporate finance dept. of a company where accounting and tax related issues are a normal part of job. Search for random profiles of CAs and CFAs on LinkedIn, after seeing 20-30 odd profiles (people having more than 3-4 yrs of work ex) one would surely get a hang of what kind of positions/roles do CA and CFA gets in industry. After completing CA one is left with ALL those opportunities that a CFA has, in addition to those which are exclusive for CAs (like tax analyst, stat. audit roles, etc), but after CFA the opportunities gets reduced by more than half and there are no exclusive roles for CFA in industry (atleast am yet to find one!).
Prospects after CFA- After clearing CFA one can expect to get a job in equity research, IB or credit research or related areas. But in all such fields prior relevant work ex would be given much more preference vs a fresher guy having cleared CFA L1/L2/L3. So its always better to start with CFA after one gets into such a job rather than solely relying on CFA to get you a job. It would be asking for too much I feel. In last 4-5 years CFA has become more of a commodity in India, every one has started giving it so the value has obviously come down. (simple demand/supply funda). Having a CFA will always augment ones profile, no second thoughts on that. But currently in India, CFA is still considered a supplement/add on course, one needs to have a decent MBA with it to take full advantage of it. Again, would request members to do a LinkedIn search and find out people who have just done CFA after graduation (means no MBA or any other masters course, no CA either) There will be very very few people.

Hope it would help the members here.
Thanks,
Neeraj
PS: I have already passed CFA and FRM.
@neerajleo hi neeraj...just went through your profile and got to know you have cleared all 3 levels of CFA and FRM. I need your advice regarding me career. I have cleared Level 1 of CFA. I quit my job to prepare for CAT and screwed up. Now i ascertained that to get a good finance job you either need an MBA (from a premier institute) or CA. I am facing two paths right now. If i should take up CA or give CAT again in Nov 13...what would you suggest? Both are toughest exams on earth...no doubts...would be happy if you could throw some light on this..
