If you r frm non financial background and u opt for U may take time to digest accounting in MBA & FRA in CFA . After sometime u will get used to it.Other topics such as corp fin, Eco,Equity & Fixed income,Derivatives r quite interesting. Syllabus of MBA fin and CFA level 1 is more or less same.My advice either get into top MBA college or do CFA till u get into a good one for the time being.
Thanks All for your reply.
One more confusion.
Do i need to pursue MBA in finanace first and then for the CFA ,or directly target CFA?
i Dont have any commercial background . i am jst 2.5 years IT engineer.
hey puys, I am planning to register for level-!, but i m in a dillema i dont have o credit card and the procedure will take around 21 days.....isn't it possible to pay the money through debit cardd
Easiest way to pay CFA fee is credit card. If u dnt have one arrange it frm ur friends

which is the better way ! directly go for the CFA or first go for the MBA in finance and then go for the CFA.
AS i have no commercial background.

The moment I read your reason to pursue CFA, I just thought it wouldn't be good for you. But then, Nayas is spot on whatever he said...
See.. CFA is a very tough course to study. More than the toughness, it is the amount of course curriculum that is a turn off for many. Now what we Indians generally have the tendency is to clear any exam, you name it. Nothing seems difficult for us. But the key phrase for CFA is "PASSION FOR FINANCE". As Nayas said, do not go for CFA just for the package. You won't survive in I-bank for long...
As i am about to switch my career comepletely into finance .
I have to make sure that market demands CFA certification only..
Or we have to go for the MBA to create base of qualified degree.
its always better to do an mba wid cfa.. it adds good amount of value, especially as cfa is nt a degree but simply a designation. nyways finance as a field demands multiple degrees, gone are d days wen just mba ws sufficient to become a big shot fund manager.. but u dont need an mba to switch to finance.. even if u clear 2 levels of cfa.. u can get a job in finance related services
but i want to have exp in core investment bank profile. and that is not possible with just CFA-II as fresher i believe.

I have same questions as everyone else has got in this forum. How to switch to Finance? I'm trying for an MBA, and hopefully if things go good then I will get into a decent institution.
I know that there are totally 3 levels of CFA, and have heard its good if you want to switch. Can anyone help me out with CFA preparation.. How to start and from where to start ? Being an Engineer, I have no clue about this sector..
Puys, please assist and suggest me the way to go forward. If I have not mistaken, there is level I exam in this December, but don't think I will be prepared at that time.
Later, post your specific queries here and you are bound to get specific replies. Otherwise, people will tend to give you "gyan", that you know anyhow.
Importantly, find a senior person and make him your mentor to guide you.

Ok, Appreciate your information ! I have PM my mail id and I hope you would be able to help me on this?

i m doubtfull dat even wid cfa level 3 ul be able to get a core core investment banking job.. ul have to first start with something related to research or even back office in IB roles.. front end jobs are only given to ppl who are trusted and hav proven dem selves in d industry.. everyone has to work der way up.. its a simple thing, most fund managers are a cfa, but most cfa aren't a fund manager.. for fresher especially its even more diff widout a good bschool backing.. (ppl from iim's , fms, jb , sp jain nd all get core IB roles even widout a cfa.. ) nyways all d best, it will all come to u wid time and patience..
HI ALL,i have heard that the international CFA course is better than the indian CFA course....is it true ??? please throw some light on this issue....
thanking in advance :)
if you are considering CFA i would suggest you to go for international CFA (US), i have done 4 groups of Indian CFA (ICFAI univ.). i would not say that its bad or less than international CFA but there have been some problems with ICFAI management which have affected the course value and quality of exams badly. moreover i have heard(from internal sources) that ICFAI is either going to terminate its cfa programme or it will stop using cfa (word), currently theres a case pending against ICFAI due to which it has changed the name to MIFA but still it gives cfa charter but if the case goes in AIMR'S favour(US CFA) then icfai will not be allowed to give cfa charter. So its better to go for US CFA as it is worldwide accepted and appreciated.

i want to do international cfa, and looking forward to December exam and i am living in Indore.. my problem is that from where i should take cfa coaching i am very confused, please help, or i should prepare by my self, my background is engineering.
i found some institutes at my city providing cfa coaching classes, but there are only 3 institutes and the no. of students in Indore those are opting cfa are very very less.
shifting to another city is not a problem
also tell me how much important is the coaching, do i need the best coaching center, do i need to shift to another city...or i can do it from anywhere...
my background is computer science engineering i have no knowledge of finance i am hoping if i could crack cfa level 1 in this December
and also tell me can i do cfa while doing job..?? actually i am searching for job right now, and i think i will get job in approx 5months, so after that what should i do?? should i do cfa from home without continuing to my job or should i do cfa with job.??

In my opinion u dont need any coaching at all the institute modules & Schwesser materials (which u can order & they will deliver right at ur doorstep), are more than enough to crack it.
I have many ppl around me who have done the same & i m also doin the same....since u r not from fin background i suggest u study from the institute materials(preferably hard material & not the e-book version) as it will build a base.
But if u still want to go for coaching there are a couple of institutes in Mumbai & there might be some in Delhi as well just google up & u will find them.
