some where i have heard about CFA(US).

heard that if u have this certification ,u can have nice package around 12 lakh to 15 lakh woth CFA-II .

yar ,
just tell me reality. i have waste so many years till date and i dnt want 2 o 3 years more.

please suggest!!

You are right, finance companies do not prefer freshers. But you can apply to KPOs. They will be a good start for your career towards finance. Start working there and give 1-2 levels of CFA. You will also be able to relate to the concepts of Finance there. I would suggest, work there for 2 years and then make a shift depending upon your interest (like, equity research, derivatives, fixed income, etc.)

I can see you are from Delhi, so would suggest KPOs in NCR like The Smart Cube, Copal Partners, WNS, Inductis, etc. Your salary initially could be around Rs. 25-30,000.

Dont do CFA just thinking about the package. If you are really interested in finance as a career option, CFA will help. If you can complete CFA L1 and L2 you should definately get a finance job depending upon how you do in interviews. However salary is something subjective. I know non MBA and non CFA guys earning better salaries than MBA+CFA guy.

Having said that its true that growth in finance field will be faster if you can put efforts and earn salaries much higher than what you earn now.

The moment I read your reason to pursue CFA, I just thought it wouldn't be good for you. But then, Nayas is spot on whatever he said...

See.. CFA is a very tough course to study. More than the toughness, it is the amount of course curriculum that is a turn off for many. Now what we Indians generally have the tendency is to clear any exam, you name it. Nothing seems difficult for us. But the key phrase for CFA is "PASSION FOR FINANCE". As Nayas said, do not go for CFA just for the package. You won't survive in I-bank for long...
Mad-Head Says
Both famar & sayan are correct. As i've being mentioning this in my posts that 1 needs to have PASSION FOR FINANCE as this is 1 thing most Top IB & Consluting MNC firm look for in a candidate. Secondly, the job of a Investment Banker, Consultant, Associate etc. are worst then an IT pro. as they work for 15*7 schedule at a stretch for 5-8 years. One should not just follow the herd i.e., BE > MBA > CFA. There has to be a logic in this pattern or you may end up being @ a stage when you would regret all THIS.

Hi ,

I am hitesh...I am havig a work exp of 4 years(Telecom Background). Can i pursue the certification related to CFA. I want to end with a consultancy Job or Analayst job 2-3 years down the line. Will doing CFA will help knowing i don't know much about finance?

BR//
Hitesh

Will CFA help in accelerating growth in career in academics

Hi Hitesh,

Without being a Commerce grad or having a prior work-ex in finance domain going for just CFA would help to your cause. You got to have a MBA along with your CFA only then can you expect an IB job coming your way. Companies don't want to hire a person who don't know how a comparison b/w 2 balance-sheet is done (don't feel offended as I'm not reffering to you).

So, it would be advisable to go for MBA along with your CFA. Head start with CFA if you are planning go for CAT/GMAT in 2013. You'll have lot of time to clear first 2 levels.

All The Best

Hi again,

Can you please suggest me any course that can help me to get IT analyst, IT Consultant position ....or path related to it
Hi again,

Can you please suggest me any course that can help me to get IT analyst, IT Consultant position ....or path related to it

Ya , also can anyone put a light on career path to become a Business Analyst ? also i wonder whats the role of a BA and whats his actual job and what he does and what are the growth options ?

And also what does a Consultant do in a MNC company ?
Why would you require a CFA degree for a career in Academics????

With a MBA from Top B-School mixed with good Industry Experience will get you a job in any reputed B-School & you would do wonders.

CFA is a professional course & not like any other degree like B.Com/BE/BA/MBA just like CA/FRM/CIIA etc. This course is designed for specific job role like mergers & acquistions, equity research etc.

It would be an added value on your CV but not a preferred one. Even if you check the profile some of the IIMs faculties, you would rarely find a CFA teaching out there.

Ohh i thought now a days all in b schools are MBA,UGC-NET,Phd . SO i thought CFA will help me in differentiating myself and have command on subjects like derivatives,FM etc when i teach
Hi powermatrix,

The International Institute of Business Analysis provides a certification program for business analysts (Certified Business Analyst Professional or CBAP) but it is not a requirement to be certified in order to work as a BA.

Please tell me requirement related to clearing the certification for the same.Is it mandatory to have specific exp related to analyst before applying to the above certification. In case i am not having it then can't i apply for the same?

Sorry, to say Hitesh but I'm not sure/aware of the requirement for clearing the above certification. But as i mentioned 1 does not have to clear the certification to be a BA. I would suggest to check the website & see if you can get any details.

yeah Mad-Head you are very right, to be a BA one needs to have some experience in functional process of any business process, then only one can analyze it. Like BA in software firm which develop financial software would hire someone who has some experience in banking and then only he/she can lay out the plans for software development as per client requirements.
Certifications may add some value those who are already BA or have some functional knowledge.

Hitesh, if you have found out the certification, then it would be better to go through their website and clear your doubts

Are you interested in teaching? College Lecturer or other aspirations? What is your background? Any particular interests? Have you done prior teaching? Any specializations?

Write in detail... I'll try to respond.

hello every1 !!!! well i have been placed in mu sigma at business analyst post .......
well my query is that whether job ex of business analyst will be considered as job ex as per that 4 year job requirement as per regulations of cfainstitute site as they have given some sample designations for that
kindly advice
moreover my another query is that whether for level 2 or 3 do we need that experience of 4 years or not

Work Experience (Source: CFAI)

To be recommended for regular membership you must have completed four years (48 months) of qualifying work experience in activities that consist to a majority extent of:

  1. Evaluating or applying financial, economic, and/or statistical data as part of the investment decision-making process involving securities or similar investments, which includes, but is not limited to, publicly traded and privately placed stocks, bonds, and mortgages and their derivatives; commodity-based derivatives and mutual funds; and other investment assets, such as real estate and commodities, if these other investment assets are held as part of a diversified, securities-oriented investment portfolio; or
  2. Supervising, directly or indirectly, persons who practice such activities; or
  3. Teaching such activities.

Job titles are not sufficient; you must include specific details about your job responsibilities.

Further
  1. Part-time positions do not qualify.
  2. Managing your own investments does not qualify.

To answer your query
  1. Maybe - maybe not - depends on the work profile
  2. No
