Need some Opinions on CFA

Well I have a doubt.

Doing CFA from CFA institute wont make us eligible to apply to Govt jobs for financial positions , I read in the employment newspaper , there was a requirement for an officer post in a bank and the requirement was a grad degree with cfa icfai and it was clearly written that cfa holders of the cfa institute will not be accepted . So if we ever want to change to Govt banks for a secure future , we wont be eligible !
Doing cfa from cfa institute will make us eligible for jobs in private sector banks , wealth management and all are opening up in India I recently saw a RBS branch .
And if we move abroad then we might have tough luck , because American charter holder will have an upper hand to an Indian charterholder , well , thats what i think . And the taxation laws differ I guess the cfa inst teaches us american laws and not universal laws ( I might be wrong , I have not gone through every subject ) . One thing is for sure that one cannot get a job in the Indian Govt with a cfa charter of the us . I want to join SBI its doing good. Well if someone intends to move outside for a job i might be helpful , but I think the Indian cfa will be safer . I started studying for the cfa US but these things came in my mind . and here's confusion again. Two of my friend got thrown away from their office , and they did their mba from one of the top 10 colleges.. initially their salary was 70k per month and it dropped to 10k and they had to quit and now they are jobless.. I like grueling working conditions but I need job security too . So Govt jobs and therefore the cfa from icfai.

Hi,

I am an MBA in insurance from NIA.Currently I am working with L&T; general Insurance.I have work ex of about 48 months,Now i want to shift from insurance to purely finance ,Is CFA the best choice available in terms financial courses for an individual of my background and how much of a help it would be for me since i am looking for a career in finance?

Thanks in advance

Hello everyone.
I am a Mechanical engineer by qualification. I am not working anywhere currently but will start working this June. I have basic knowledge of finance, financial terms and markets mainly through wikipedia and newspapers.

I have registered for L1 December 2012 exams and studying in full flow.
I have finished reading Book 2(Economics) Schweser once and will have just begun with Book 2(Financial reporting).
I plan to finish with the Schwesers till the end of June. After that, CFA institute E-books, classroom videos and review material.

As I have registered for the December exam, I am rather keen on giving on L2 June 2013 itself.

So I thought I might start studying for CFA L2 while studying for L1 exams and cover a small chunk of my syllabus. Are there any sections in L2 which are mere extensions from L1? Does it sound doable or am I going overboard?

Also, Can I register for L2 before passing L1.(i.e. can I register for L2 before the first deadline without L1 qualification.)
what if I register for L2 and do not clear L1??
What will be the next course of action??

I am really confused!!

Can you please give the name of the Bank / link where this advt appeared.

Would you like to share your reasons as to why you want to change over to Finance?
Some thoughts
- Insurance is also a happening field.
- You already have 4 years of experience in insurance
- You have good options related to Insurance like Actuary / Risk / Fin Maths etc
- You can always shift to Life / P&C;

Even after all this, if you have already decided, then which area of finance / banking do you want to concentrate on... There are so many options.
CFA is concentrated on the valuation aspects or capital markets.

Buddy I don't think that financial analysis and marketing is a good idea..........
Rest is up to you..........If you are interested then go for it

As pointed out by mba4mheart, CFA concentrates on Investments and Financial Analysis. The effort and dedication required to clear all three levels of CFA is substantial.

Potential Employers would be looking at recruiting a person for a particular function / department - say BD/ Sales or Finance but generally never a combination of both.

I suggest, do not be in a hurry to register for CFA, join your MBA and wait for the subjects to sink in. Later have a detailed look at the CFA syllabus and see the fitment. Also have a look at other Strategic Marketing or other specialized marketing courses that have a synergy with your main course of study.

U can register it before october.U can study till then and decide whether your preparation is enough to crack it.
U can buy the study material from laxmi xerox(ville parle mumbai).
They will courier it to your postal address.
It'll cost you 1100/- only.

Have u heard about torrentz ? u can download a lot of stuff for CFA from there free of cost

@leolazer It was a govt bank as far as I remember , SBI , Indian overseas bank . they accepted the indian cfa and boycotted the american cfa degree , it was written loud and clear that no cfa holders of the american institute will be accepted.
