Dear All,
I need your suggestions, inputs & insights to take a decision to take a plunge in CFA December (Level 1) exams. I am BE & MBA graduate working in IT domain for last 7 years. I always want to work in the finance domain but the destiny has something else stored in for me.
I am contemplating to go for CFA now. I really need your invaluable thoughts for the below queries of mine:
  1. Is it too late to go for CFA considering I am already 32 years old?
  2. What is median age of CFA Level 1 candidates?
  3. Considering I opted to go CFA way will it help me for the career transition? If yes then whether I will be offered a role of a fresher?
  4. Do organizations provide job opportunities to CFA Level 1 passed candidate?
  5. Are there any members on this forum who are sailing in the same boat as I am?

I am sorry if my queries are already discussed on this forum.

Sincere advice: please take your thought process to the next level. I say this so that the advice from these forums can be of some use to you. "Finance sector" is very wide - could be Corporate Finance to Investment Banking to Entrepreneurial Finance to the Planning Commission and everything in between. "What course": can be MBA or CFA or something very different. You see my point?

By thinking through your question a bit more, you will do yourself a service.

I have a doubt about the timing of taking up CFA L1...

Actually, I had appeared for CAT and other exams this season. I have calls from IIMK, NMIMS, IMI, SPJAIN (reject) and few others.

Is it advisable to take up CFA this December or next year June? (if i make it to a good MBA institute). I am determined to do MBA in finance.

Also, I have cleared the financial mathematics paper of Actuarial Science. (CT-1) and so have in depth knowledge about the quantitative part like NPV, IRR, DPP, TWRR, MWRR etc.

Also, I am from commerce background, so have good knowledge of accounting and decent knowledge of economics as well.

If i plan to appear for CFA level 1, will it be the right choice? Also, when..? December 2012 or June 2013? I mean which part of MBA curriculum will give me more time for preparation?

go for the december slot.. according to me sem 2 is way more hectic den sem 1.. although it depends from coll to coll.. and even if u do end up givin in june its always helpfull to start preparin early.. but if u start now or by mid may dat wud give u enough time for dec exam.. and an added advantage of doin it in dec is you can go fr level 2 in june and even if u dont go for level 2 in june, level 1 will help u in summer internship and final plcmnts to an extent, also the curriculum helps in mba

hey i m arun from hyderabad..i have done my btech from IT(information technology) field...with less % and backlogs ..
i find both actuaries and CFA as interesting careers..but cant pick one of them clearly..

what are u r suggestions...from my knowledge actuary jobs are hard to find but once we get that "entrance" we can have a gradual rise..coming to CFA i have no knowledge but it interests me .can u guide me through this to choose a best option ..?
