people drop a year for various reasons. You had yours. CFA itself is a reputed course. So once you complete that it should help in boosting your career. If asked during an interview you can give a more suitable explaination for dropping an year. Moreover doing CFA and MBA would prove your dedication towards your new goal beyond doubt. In nutshell you will be asked for explanation time and again, but its no road block.

@somebody it was such a relief !! thank you for your positive comment ! 😃 i was too tensed. lets hope I can successfully complete cfa .
thank you

Hi
I am registering for l-1(June 10).I have tried two credit cards. One card is from Standard Charted Bank and the other is from HDFC bank.
Both cards have the VISA logo on them. But each time i get this error:

Transaction was not successful. Please call your credit card company or try another credit card. (SBL-APS-00802).

HDFC doesn't know anything about this.

Anyone had the same problem? If so,What did you do?Please help.

Am also facing this problem while trying to register 😞 Is it something to do with the card? I registered last year with the very same card! (Visa - Canara bnk)

Hi, I just registered with HDFC Credit Card, VISA and there were no issues. Check the balance available for the card. Even if you have 50K as limit but your bill of 30K is due, so the balance available become 20K.

Hi,

I have study material of CFA level 1 and FRM Part 1.
Anybody interested, pl inbox me.

Hi...
Can anyone let me know the process to postpone the cfa exam from june to december and conditions under which this can be done. Is there any time limit till which this can be exercised ?

Can anybody guide me what are the career prospects of doing CFA after CA? I am a CA.

It depands on which domain u r working and hw much exp u have.
And u r serious to pursue CFA bcoz just getting this doesnot mean a lucrative job....

Hi All,

I am new to the CFA world.:
If i take the CFA exam 1st time and fail then will my 2nd attempt score card have the detail present that I failed in the first attempt?
Also does the CFA score card contain the marks or just pass/fail remark?

..................repeat post...............

I am planning to take CFA June 2012 exam. Is it too late?
How many hours of study is required for the same?

If I can put in 5 hours of study everyday, will it be sufficient to clear the exam?

^ I guess its too early 😛 this is feb and you wanna give exam on this june ? its perfect if you have completed your course and practicing mock papers 😛 you have to complete the entire syllabus by may anyhow and give it a thorough revision. the syllabus is in quite vast but interesting . you can give it a shot though.

btw im looking for a study group in south delhi for cfa level 1. near alaknanda kalkaji cr park 😛

I see no point in you being so sarcastic. I made it very clear that I am very new to the CFA world. My aim was to collect basic information about CFA and you could have very well done that without the sarcasm.
God bless you.

ATB for your CFA-1.

@ace
Though your query is too vague and generalistic, I will try to respond to it within that constraint. First ,some related observation :
1. Unlike college/qualifying exams CFA id a professional exam and like all other professional exams no. of hours required to clear is more dependent on your current qualification (specially specialization i.e. finance or non-finance), your strong & weak points (is it quant or theory or application, your retention and recalling ability of a substantial curriculum coverage in the exam) and finally your capability of continuous learning and understanding without getting confused or forgetting. These are important in every exam but for CFA, FRM etc these happens to be main deciding factor. So, whether certain no. of hours will suffice to clear any level depends on these factor rather than the other way round.
2. One may note the CFAI prescription where it states, "Successful candidates report spending an average of 300 hours preparing for each exam. Your preparation time will vary based on your prior education and experience." This is the minimum requirement with sufficient finance background (i.e. it is presumed one has the basic finance topic related knowledge and understanding ) but in reality most will say that 280 to 350 hours is a better statement of requirement with minimal basic knowledge of quant and finance .
3. It is on record that a substantial no. of candidates have been able to clear the Level 1 starting in late February or even March but with focused preparation strategy and consistent hard work. In fact I know some candidates who cleared after wholeheartedly preparing for 1.5 to 2 months taking leave ( or being unemployed) solely studying upto 10-12 hours daily for the CFA level 1 . Apparently what is a crucial requirement is your dedication and single minded effort, though that does not guarantee you will pass but chances are highly likely that you will get the congratulatory mail from CFAI after the exam.
Now, in your specific case:
** Suppose I take 1 March as starting date, then you have exactly 96 days to appear in CFA Level 1 out of which you have 13x2=26 weekend days. So whether you are working / student or not , at the minimum you have 70+26 days to get ready to meet the challenge.
** As you said, if you are prepared to work for 5 hrs a day (presumably working days) then you have 350 hours. And keeping in view your strength of desire to pass it you should be prepared to work for 8 to 10 hours (preferably 10 hours) for the week ends i.e. at least 250 hours more. With 350+250 hrs i.e. minimum 500 hours of dedicated work, even with minimal or very little curriculum previous knowledge you WILL be able to clear the Level 1 unless something drastically goes wrong or unless you are one of those who prepare well but forgets /gets confused in the examination for no apparent reasons other than lacking confidence .
** By now (if not then go through the PG threads on CFA )you must have realized that CFA level 1 may be tough to clear but is neither impossible to clear with planned preparation nor is so unpredictable in nature that it is difficult to guess what and how to study . You have to simply study and prepare thoroughly from the Schewser notes (for level 1 this may suffice for most candidates with above average level of intelligence and learning power ) and try to do the EOC (end of chapter Qs from CFAI material as that will give you idea of actual exam questions though mostly it is covered in the Schewser too). Then do as many Sample and practice tests as is possible during the last 25-30 days along with revising the weaker sections ensuring you score >75% in these. Lastly take the CFAI Mock exam of this and last years during the last week with revising ethics once again (as this may help you to pass if you by chance score less in others and is marginal case) and you are ready.

So plan your strategy well and start today. You need to plan out day to day schedule for the study plan and stick to it, come what may. You will need to forget social networking and diversions like Facebook, parties and outings for these 96 days and ensure you remain focused by giving yourself enough rest during the preparation period. Believe me, it is a small price to pay to get the success you ultimately aiming for - the Charter of CFAI.

Also, remember Level 1 is the simplest and easiest of the three levels - so if this much input and labour still fails one then may be either the curriculum is too tough or even CFA is not the best option for him/her .Please note I am not saying this to discourage you or any one but giving you a realistic assessment of what you need to do and why.
Best of luck...

rightly said.. cfa level 1 is pretty basic and only reason someone cud fail it wud be lack of time.. its vast and time consumin.. if u can manage dat.. its done

@the ace.. not at all being sarcastic mate .sorry. i just told you that june might be a little early if you have not started cfa yet . everything depends upon you man ! if u can give some 5-6 hours a day regularly and retain everything . then u can give the exam. but as others are telling it will be a costly affair . register for december wala exam. do the full proof preparation and u should clear in one shot , i will be giving on this december too .
