I have completed CFA level 3.
Will start MBA in 2-3 months.
Have 3.5 years of non-finance work experience.
recently resigned from last job
am free for next five weeks.
Is it good to do some finance job/internship or do FRM ?
Which one will help me in getting summer internship in finance area ?
I have one day left to decide and register for FRM Level I
1) Go to any good B-School like IIMs or ISB or XLRI for 1 year MBA
2) Do MBA by correspondence from any good institute like Symbiosis and at the same time do CFA
MBA is career development tool where as CFA is career enhancement Tool ..
now u can decide whether u need to enhance/develop a career
to me safe bet should be first option ( jus 49 weeks course in IIM/XL .. you go up in ur career ladder with ease) .. you can decide on CFA later

good luck !
michael88 Sayshi....m in a research job for last 1 year....m planning to go 4 mba....does clearing CFA help in anyway b4 doing MBA...plz help...!!!!
only if u r particular about finance specialization .. again as i said in previous post
MBA is career development tool where as CFA is career enhancement Tool ..
do not think of CFA if u r least interested in Finance

Hii..
I am final year computer science engineer and want to do mba in finance, but before that i want to gain some knowledge in finance field,is CFA right course for that?

If you can manage internship from a known company better go with that
As you already have CFA L 3, FRM would not add much value to your profile, but a finance internship from a good firm definitely adds an extra dimension.

Which of these calculators do you need for the CFA EXam?
eBay India: Texas BA II PLUS PROFESSIONAL FINANCIAL Calculator (item 160569941313 end time 14-Apr-2011 17:33:46 IST)
or
eBay India: TEXAS BA II PLUS FINANCIAL CALCULATOR - BILL + 1YR WAR (item 180651827069 end time 15-Apr-2011 10:25:58 IST)
Only the second one has CFA certified written in the description - i am confused!!
both are allowed. The professional one has a few more functions but are not required for CFA exams. so u can go for the other one as its a little cheaper.

Hi,
I am presently working as an SE. I have a BE(I.T) from the University of Mumbai. I am an MBA aspirant and have been taken the CAT thrice (yet to get a good enough score for the IIM's) and would be taking the CAT again in 2011, for the Fall 2012 batch.
I am considering leaving my present job (as I intend be make a career switch to Finance, or maybe consulting) and pusruing the CFA Level 1 exam scheduled in December 2011.
I have the following queries, and would appreciate answers from people who have been-there-done-that :D
1. Is CFA the way to go? My aim is to have cleared the Level 1 exam by the time i go for the gd/pi sessions (assuming i finally manage to get a few calls). My line of thought is that this would not only be a great value add to my otherwise highly ordinary profile, but also an invaluable enabler that would bring me (an engineer) at par with the finance guys who enter bschools.
2. I found that, thought the June 2011 exam has centers in India (Delhi HC ruling), the December 2011 has no centers in India. My query is, is the list likely to be revised and Indian centers included? Going to Colombo/Dubai to take the test would not be feasible for me?
3. How easy/difficult is the course from the point of view of a nonIIT, nonNIT engineer. I have managed to obtain the 2011 level 1 course material and it looks vast. Any experiences/advice.
Cheers,
Pratik.

I neither love nor hate finance...YET.
I am keen to make a career in the field , and i'm taking my first baby steps in that direction. I'll also be doing the NSE certifications.
vicky113 Says2. india centers will come dont worry, just opt for a center like colombo now and then later change
Thanks, this is a relief. I intend to register by the August deadline.

As i have mentioned in my earlier post, i'm just a BE at the moment and an MBA aspirant. have very little core knowledge of finance...Know the basics about the stock market, and do skim through ET every once in a while. I'll most likely be taking time off work...and preparing full time for the test in december.

Hi pratik
I am just like u rite now.. a SE with no finance background.. also appeared for CAT but no top level call.
All I want to say is if ur still aspiring for top level MBA colleg and sidewise appearing for CFA in dec u might be just screwing urself from both ends. People say 250 hrs of study is enough but dont know hw many of them really did in this short time span so please dont get carried away. I find it really tough studying along with job, office calls and other distractions so I might even need 1000 hrs. Maybe I am dumb enough.. :P;). I have already applied and statrted preparing and i find the syllabus really vast if u really want to learn something and not doing it just to clear the exam.
I am a NIT product but NIT IIT doesnt make a difference as its a totally diffent play field. So first just decide what u really want to do.
If ur sure u'l go for MBA then u can even go for CFA in those 2 yrs.
You know it takes a lot of effort to make it to top league MBA college nd with ur self defined ordinary profile, there is still no guarantee that u'l make it.
But if u put the same effort for CFA i think u'l easily make it because CFA institue doesnt discriminate on basis of ur "bachpan ke galtiyan(paap)"
I neither love nor hate finance...YET.

want a career in finance and loving finance is diff. see when i was in school i wanted to be an engg but once i got good ranks a got into a good coll i lost all interest in engg, but later on while doing mba i developed my love for fin and i have stuck to tht. now how u will develop ur love is up2 u. if ur going for mba do some nse courses which will help u in ur interview.
without a prior knowledge in finance cfa level 1 will also look quite tough and vast. start with scheweser notes. if ur comfy then only register for cfa

Hey people, this forum has been really helpful in solving major doubts about the CFA program. One thing I wanted to ask is about calculators, I started studying for CFA Level 1 and plan to appear for it in Dec,2011. I couldn't find anything about the use of the calculators mandated by the CFA Institute. Those who have appeared for it, kindly throw some light into that matter. And one more thing, I plan to register myself by June ending or July. As you guys say, the India centers will open up, I shouldn't have any problems booking a slot by then should I? I mean the taking up of slots isn't on first-cum-first served basis as per registration right?
Hey Kdj
PM me your E Mail id , i ll forward u the material
Thanks
Sanjay Surana
HI Sanjay,
I am planning to give CFA level 1 in DEC 2011, I have schweser notes but need to have a look to the books provided by CFA before registering for the exam to decide whether i should go for dec or nxt year june.
TIA!!!
Hi puys
Needed some specific inputs from u. Appearing for the CFA xam crossed my mind after the setbacks recieved in this years CAT. I already have a 3 yrs experience in FMCG sales from a good MNC. And i want to pursue a career in consulting (Mergers and Acquisitions) after I complete my MBA. But with all my background in light, is CFA the right course for me? Does my experience in anyway fit into the career path I want to pursue? I don't really know how a CFA will help me. Guys who have already cleared the CFA without being from the finance field before tht, please throw some light on this.
Thanks!!
P.S: Please excuse me if this kind of question has already been answered before on this thread, but i just felt too lazy to go through some 350 odd posts to find an answer.
Hi puys, i intend to give my Level 1 in December 2011 and i have the syllabus with me but i haven't officially registered for it yet. I have a few questions:
1- What is the expected last date for registration for Level 1 December exam.
2-If i start preparing from june at the rate for 30-35 hours a week, will that be enough considering i have little or no knowledge of finance? Though, i would add that i absolutely love finance and am ready to put in much more efforts and time to better myself. I like to assume that am a quick learner :)
3-I am bad at quant in general but my DI is decent enough, scored a 65.25 in quant and 96.37 in cat 2010, so, is being strong in quant a pre-requisite to pass CFA or its more on the application side of quant?
4-Considering the above situation, what would be the suggested course of action for me and any customized tips? Would love to hear from CFA level 1 passouts and others.
5-I started using Schweser Level 1 notes for now, what else should i refer to?
6-Will Indian centers open up by june-july? What is the fees for level 1? (sorry but i am a total noob at this)
Also, a few things, am from Pharmaceutical background, I am currently at Mumbai and I dont believe in coaching classes, have always and do believe in self study.
