Hi,
You are very much eligible for the CFA exam and can write Level 1 in June 2011. No need to attend any college for the exam, however you can take coaching class/preparatory class if you feel the need to do so. Currently, the exam can't be taken in India (June 2011). As far as I know we can get the Schweser material from Laxmi Xerox,Bombay.I called him and he is asking for 1200(Material price) + 500 (Courier Charges)=1700 Rs.
But the issue is, I am living in Kolkata right now.Isn't there any shop in Kolkata where we can get the Schweser notes?

CFA holds good only for those who seek job into pure finance.. it is a finance degree. i-bank jobs, mutual funds, hedge funds etc are examples of the jobs one can look forward to with the CFA qualification under his belt..
Since you want to get into finance, yes.. A CFA degree (L2/ L3) will definitely add value to your profile.

it seems pretty difficult for a newbie to clear cfa.And being from engineering i guess its gonna be much difficult.However i have cleared derivative,capital,securities and 'will' be clearing investment portfolio and equity research in coming months.
now,i want to go for cFA during my job.
but as i shall be doing ma project in college only(currently in 8th sem) so that gives me some quality time for its preparation.
so any idea for some early preparation??
or any book(i've heard of schweser secret sauce but that is damn expensive for a col student like me)?
any solution for that?

After going through all the pages(312 so far), I can say that it was one hell of an experience. Hats off to all the experts who pitched in with their expert views to help us all. I can say that after reading this thread, I have no doubt regarding CFA levels, notes, calcis etc. First 40 pages or so were really informative. Thanks to CTD(where is he btw?), rajatb, akshat, archbishop etc.

I will suggest that you go to the CFA website and download the content list. Then, you can study individual topics from different sources.
The only downside might be that CFA is more geared for the US markets (instead of SEBI, you have SEC in CFA text books, or instead of RBI, you have Federal Reserve).
However, this should hardly impact your overall preparation.

I am a CA final student and my exams for CA final exams are in first 2 weeks of november 2011.I am doing B.Com(A&F;) from IGNOU and i will be qualified for the degree in march 2011.My internship of 3.5 years gets over in september 2011.
a)Am i eligible for CFA L1 exams?
b)Will i be able to prepare satisfactorily for CFA l1 exams in Dec2011 exams without hampering my CA final exams in november.
