Ok, here's my story. I'm in my 3rd year of engineering right now and I'll take the CFA L1 in coming June. My ideal plan is to get into a good bschool and do an MBA straight after my engineering alongwith CFA. But if I don't get into a good bschool, I'll have one year at my disposal before my second attempt at CAT. Now, considering this scenario, being from an engineering field, I'll land up with a technical job through campus. Since a CFA charter requires you to have a 4 years work experience in a RELEVANT field, doing a technical job as a software developer won't add up to anything.
So what options do I have after I'm done with my engineering to make a career switch? Does CFA level 1 alone have any job prospects in India or outside?
I'll either ways get work experience be it a technical job or finance related, but something related to finance will make more sense.

buddy i dont think you are allowed to appear for the exam in your third year, either you should have completed your final year or you should be in your final semester to give your exam, also the rules of the institute have gone stricter now, my advice, if you havent registered for the exam then do not go for it in june 2011
and as far as your other query goes, i am assuming that you clear your engg in 2012, so by that you must have completed your 2 levels in CFA, so it will get you a job in a related field

No. Actually I emailed the CFA institute over my eligibility for June L1 attempt since I'll be in my final year at the time of exam in June 1st week.
They replied saying that all I've got to do is to furnish them my engineering degree certificate within 18 months of registration and therefore I'll be registering late to satisfy this requirement. And I've also spoken to the guy who cleared his L1 in June itself last year while being in the same position as I'm in now. So I figured I can take this educated risk.
Hey Puys,
I've been lurking around this forums for quite a while. First of i want to thank all those who've been helping others and guiding them in this thread. Its a great thing your all doing and it doesnt go unnoticed. Now to the matter at hand . I'm a Mechanical Engineer, I graduated this year during May. My future plans at the moment are to work for 2 to three years and then pursue a Mba in finance. I'm also planning to clear my level 1 and 2 during this period that i work. Recently i've been offered a position in this big company in the gulf . This company posesses many divisions namely construction equipment , Engineering equipment , Electronics and Automobiles (Range rover , Jaguar etc) and their quite big here. The problem is the position they've offered me is in the sales side, as a junior sales executive. Right now i'm in a quite a dilemma whether to accept the job offer or not. On one hand the incentives are good ( accomodation , and a company car) but i dont know if this work experience would be considered as valid and usefull experience later on when i apply for mba finance. I kindly request those of you who more job experience and knowledge than me to kindly guide me. I currently confused if i should either refuse the offer and apply elsewhere or accept the offer work for 2 years and then shift to the finance domain after completing my 2 levels of my cfa ( That is if i can get a job after 2 levels of cfa ). So ya kindly help me out guys.
Yours
Karthik

Hi,
I am ashish currently working in IT sector for past 1 year.Thought of giving CFA next june.Wanted some guidance about the material and level of difficulty for LEVEL-1 .
Level 1 is fairly easy IMO - just basic concepts. Would recommned that you keep not more than 2-3 months for preparation, and practice well in this time frame
Where can i find the material to study for L1
thanks, also wanted to know where can i find the learning material for L1.
hey, any tips or advice on how to study ethics??
And wud schweser do or I need to do even the CFA books
Sorry if the question is repeated...
If you have time do CFA books - they will improve basics. Key is to practice even a little every day and ensure that you do not fall behind

afaik the CFA books are pretty good but it takes time to go through them. Finish of the schweser notes 1st, do the workbooks and then if u have time u can go through the cfa original books. I would say do go through the cfa books at least 1ce. and abt ethics i wld suggest try to understand it rather than committing it to memory

Hi Manish,
There is no official word on this, but with my experience of all three levels, what I can tell you is that the Rule of thumb is > 65% in each section.
As the number increases of sections with
