Need some Opinions on CFA

@ suyash_rix
hahaha; thats also" straightforward" so much that u double posted it.
common man help me instead making fun of my ques. some tips or suggestions ..plz guys.

He is not making fun of u , dude. He is correct. U wont face any difficulty in clearing level 1 just bcoz ur average in quant. The weightage of quant in paper is mere 10% . And with understanding of concepts , even that will be easily managable!
hi to all,
my straightforward ques is
Since my command on quant or maths is between average to low:-(,,will it create a hindrance in a sufficient preparation for cfa l1. plz help guys..any suggestions ..thanks in adv.

Cool! So r u done wit PCC? okay, if you r already comfortable with accounting standards, u have almost covered the Financial Statement Analysis module. in level 1. The new part to you will be Ethics, Quant and Economics; although if u are from PE1, u must be familiar with Quant and Eco. The other modules like portfolio mgmt, corp fin , derivatives and fixed income ; u have in CA Final so i guess these things r new to u as of now.

U are certainly in a better position to clear level 1. Rather it will be a wise decision to join now as u will be completing the degree when u ecome a chartered, of course if u clear all 3 levels in first attempt. 😃

I like to appear for L1 June 2011. Haven't registered yet. I would like to know if the curriculum provided have study materials in them, or should I be investing in outside sources. I would also like to know if I should go for the hard copy or the new soft copy of the curriculum?

thanks for the reply bro.,
i have cleared only 1 group out of 2..and i m from CPT not PE1(my quant is not so good ,thats the reason i opted for CPT & since i have done I.COM and B.COM and doing CA so yes, i can say dat i'm comfortable with accounting standards and few other things of accounting).
hopefully i,ll completing my pcc in my next attempt..:cheerio:.. all my CFA future depends upon my final results awaiting for ICICI po drive for 2010 & 2011..
till now thank u for ur helpful reply.

just need your help /opinion on 2-3 matters.

1. I like to apply for CFA L3 June 2011 exam. Now while registering it asks me to choose a society for membership. I choose India and clicked on 'Apply'. So do I necessarily need to be a member of a society to appear for level 3.Also what are membership charges

2. Is it necesary to have passport for June 2011 exam even if I regsiter in 2010.

3. Also is there any scholarship for Indian candidates. I have seen on CFA website that there are scholarship for CFA societies

Thanks a lot in advance

i too am a CA student having my CA final attempt at november 2011.I wanna give L1 of CFA in jan2012.

I dont think; there is any scholarship.

hi guys i am planning to appear for the june 2011 CFA level 1. i am planning to register before second deadline. as CFA has not mentioned india centers for level1 i want to knw whether they are available before 2nd deadline? if they are available will there be any case like no availabilty.
and also i want to know how many people write CFA level1 from india(june or december).
can anyone mail me the ciriculum for june 2011 level1?
[email protected]

guys they are asking international passport for registration after jan 2011. whts the difference. do we have to apply for it or is it the normal one?

You'll have to register for a center outside India. Every year in April, the court decision has come to allow a center in India and you can change it then. This has been the trend since the past 2 years.

To register after Jan 1st 2011, you'll need a passport as a proof of identity..
rednewparis Says
i have a small doubt. what if the court doesnt allow center in india this time.? what are other options and what would be their expenses(like cost of travel to other countries)

You're out of luck then :P

Better to register at a center like Bangkok or Malaysia, where you get a visa on arrival ( But then weigh it against cheaper tickets to Dubai or Kathmandu)

Just FYI, I registered for L-1 & 2 out of India in 09 & 10 but the courts came in the students favour both the times. I registered without a passport for both levels (ie took a bet for 30 k on the court decision 😛 ). Gained sanity since L-2, got a passport few days back ;)

Earlier, the Dec exams were held outside India, but since last year, even they have been held in India.. I guess it shouldn't be any different in June 2011 alteast..

HI all,

I am working in an IT based MNC for 3 years. I want to switch to Finance domain. Do you think CFA will help me ?

Thanks in Advance !

so in cfa we just require to get admission online and pay fee for first level and it's book give exam then again pay fee for leve2 and same for level three to get degree.

i have a question that if i am not ready to give exam of level two then can i go for next exam date and is there is any stipulated time in which we have to pass all levels.

and what will be the expenditure for all the levels.

thanks.:)

Hi friends

Have a question about calculators. I have 'HP 12C Platinum' which is one of the two approved calculator models. I see most of the guys here are using 'TI BAII Plus' and examples in Schweser notes too are given with the later calculator in consideration. Does that leave me with a disadvantage and should i switch to the TI model? Your opinion please

@Kamal - Check out CFAI's site for the fee schedule

@kartik - The usage of both TI & HP are given.. Atleast they were given when I gave L-1 in 2008..

CFA would help you to gain immense knowledge provided you put in that effort. It would help you in your work as well.
Now when you apply to good b schools, they would value your work z along with CFA.
Even their in academics you would find it easy to comprehend the concepts during your Masters program which would result in better placements.
Hope your doubts are put to rest
