Yes it will certainly help while gettin a big job. But do check if it is a back office job. It will be useless if it is back office.
does CFA level 1 give u an edge in MBA personal interview stage if one's aim is an MBA in finance... or do the MBA colleges dont care coz everyone interested in finance does it anyways in 1st year of MBA?
Ace McCloud Saysdoes CFA level 1 give u an edge in MBA personal interview stage if one's aim is an MBA in finance... or do the MBA colleges dont care coz everyone interested in finance does it anyways in 1st year of MBA?
most of the colleges conduct their interviews from Feb to May..so if ur already CFA L-1 by then..it means you would be appearing for L-2 by the time u join ur institute..if u clear it successfully...you would be appearing for L-3 by the time u get into second year...for a visiting company..that would be a really really big factor and u get decent chances of getting an extraordinary package..that makes the college look good..because it inflates their average package...
in any case if some of the above doesn't happen..many students take CFA L-1 only after joining the college..but since u've already taken it before..you will stand out from the rest..
in both of the cases..the answer is a strong yes..CFA L-1 does give you a strong edge..
many people take NCFM courses for the same reason..although since it has a high pass rate..colleges don't give it much weightage..try finding about some additional finance certifications along with CFA that will make u stand out from the rest..all the best 😃

I am very much new to this thread as well as CFA. I wanted to ask that CFA from US is a distance learning programme only or do classroom programs are there in US?
Secondly if I do CFA from US(distance learning) what are my job prospects?
And lastly will doing CFA with is alright, I mean a person with normal capabilities can do it with a job?
Please answer as soon as possible.

Hi CFA is just a certification course, yes there are institutes which give coaching in completing the CFA level 1,2,3 certifications, but its not mandatory to go for the xam with some institue.
You can apply for CFA exam online and can prepare yourself.......
I am not much into details of your last question, ya but even though if you dont have exp in finance you can do it...you can check some books for CFAL1 and then decide yourself whether to go further or not.
About the job prospects in US i am not sure??? BUt CFA certification had a good value worldwide..

If I register for CFA Level 1 on 24th August I pay $400, is it necessary to pay the exam registration fee also because I don't want to give exam in December.
Secondly If I enroll myself only(Not giving the exam registration fee) will I get the study material?
Thirdly, If I register today how much time will the study material take to reach me?
Lastly, CFA study material is in form of books or they are notes in summarized form??
guys i have plan in my mind. i am from electronics background.
no knowledge of finance. but i think i can cope up with the finance stream. ppl told me multiple things not to go for finance and join marketing. but i am firm so joining mba in finance. so an attempt to judge myself i will get the CFA material and study. if i am good i'll give a try this december. its ok even if i have to shell out more. also is the material different for different exam. say december and june? plz let me know whether its possible to manage mba studies and cfa?
also tell me how is the plan? seems practical na?
Hello People, Can any1 give me details about the monertary figures which we would get after we complete L2 and L3.
Does it have any scope for someone who wants to settle in India in the Longrun?
Reply Awaited.
Hi
I am new to this thread, I am a 35 years travel professional working in the Travel and Tourism Industry for the past 10 years and academically a commerce graduate.
I always wanted to enter the finance world, can anyone let me know that doing CFA would help me in switching over to finance, what role I can expect once I finish this course and of course the compensation?
Looking forward to some help.
Best
Arif
My first post on this ausam thread
After going through all the pages(312 so far
), I can say that it was one hell of an experience. Hats off to all the experts who pitched in with their expert views to help us all. I can say that after reading this thread, I have no doubt regarding CFA levels, notes, calcis etc. First 40 pages or so were really informative. Thanks to CTD(where is he btw?), rajatb, akshat, archbishop etc.
I have also saved the best of the posts of this thread(total pages must be more than 40
). will soon share it with everyone so that one doesn't need to go through 312 pages to find answers.
thanks everyone.

Hello All,
I have 5 yrs of work exp as a s/w engg in automotive domain....
I am more interested in equity research but with my current domain exp its difficult to change the job...
planning to do mba but ppl suggested with 5yr exp for 1yr mba i can get into only IT/Marketing as finance is difficult and need to prove why i want to shift to finanace after this time....
So i thought of doing some good certifications in finance and get the knowledge on it before moving into the finance domain. so could any one suggest me on the certifications i can take to change the domain?
Thanks in advance
aditya
The best bet for you would be cima or icwa, you many go upto finance controller in your present organization. A finance controller or people working in finance role of an automobile company generally perform roles
1. Direct and coordinate company financial planning and budget management functions.
2. Recommend benchmarks for measuring the financial and operating performance of divisions and departments.
3. Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against budget.
Direct and coordinate debt financing and debt service payments with external agencies.
4. Oversee daily operations of the finance department.
5.Manage the preparation of the official annual report of actual revenues, transfers, and expenses.
6.Manage the preparation of financial outlooks and financial forecasts.
7.Prepare financial analysis for contract negotiations and product investment decisions.
8.Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal budgetary reporting requirements.
9.Work with department managers and corporate staff to develop five year and ten year business plans for the company.
10.Establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
11.Design, establish, and maintain an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the department's goals and objectives.
12.Serve on planning and policy-making committees.
13.Serve as primary legislative liaison relative to company financial issues.
14.Oversee financial management of foreign operations to include developing financial and budget policies and procedures.
15.Direct financial audits and provide recommendations for procedural improvements.
and this is one hell of a job, manufacturing(costing) finance is the mother of all finance roles. It is practical, fun and challenging.

@SAGAR_PUG:
CFA is the best course in finance.
Profiles: Equity research, financial analyst, etc
ppl from any back ground can do this course.
ther is no entrance. directly you can register for level 1 course. eligibility is graduation.
salary depends from person to person. good pay is given in U.S. equal treatment all over the world.
preparing during job is difficult. but if one is able to put some 300-400 hours studying i personally feel shud clear level 1. level 2 is li'l vast and requires lot of dedication.
career is way better than mba finance.
icfai is not that renowned all over and holds no firm base.
go for US cfa.
i personally think engineers can do better in finance field just by learning few concepts like accounting which they are not in touch with.
engineers are way better in grasping quants and economics.
wat say?
