@ abcliks
what are the entry level profiles after cfa in the firms mentioned by suyash ?
@dsaroya... U need knowledge man.... If u hv got many degrees but lack practical knowledge, they can easily find it out... The best fund manager award by this year by business standard was won by, Mr. Kenneth Andrade , UTI AMC... he is just a BCom from Mumbai University... But still beat his peers with all these degrees... So i would advice u to build practical knowledge... Read business papers, open demat, trade on ur own, keep the track of legendary investors, track their portfolios, try to understand the reasoning behind their purchases, u will get tonnes of research reports at money control both by indian and international brokerages. I personally read books by Aswath Damodaran. Just google it to find it. If u dont hv capital , make a virtual portfolio at moneybhai.com... Bookish knowledge is also important which u will gain in CFA like equity valuation methods... But the most important part is u need to use them practically in ur portfolio...Learn technical analysis...
This covers basically the equity research part... I dont know much abt M & A and corporate finance... I would like to know from seniors how to improve upon them... But still the main motive behind all these operations remains the same i.e. to earn maximum profits...
Now coming to ur query, after ur CFA L 3, if u apply to brokerage firms , most probably they will call u but the conversion is based totally upon ' interview ' process and knowledge part...again this is wat i feel personally and hv sort of experienced also...
cheers...
@abcliks
thanks man !
hi i am a final yr. engineering student and got admission into very good b-school. now i want to pursue my career into finance so i am thinking of adding some certification(cfa or frm).which one will be better for me as i am not keen investment banking.
@rob89
as cfa and frm are two different things to compare.cfa is a in depth study of investment field and frm is in depth study of risk management.now it depends upon your area of interest.frm is highly skewed towards quantitative finance and its a minimum one year process whereas, cfa takes minimum 18 months.for more details on frm visit frm forum on pagalguy.
@suyash rix
what are the entry level profiles after cfa in the firms mentioned by you ?
I did not mention anywhere entry level profiles after CFA
I just said entry level that means a fresher who is called for interview process for selection in following 3 areas
IBD Analyst, Trader, Equity Research associate, Asset management analyst, quantitative analyst to name a few lucrative ones
And ofcourse there are back office positions as well
i want to know how much minimum time it takes to complete cfa. how many levels does it have. and what is the total fees of all its levels combine dtogether. will we get charter after completing all levels or will we have to do something more.actually ia m anew babie in this field.
@iimmaterial
minimum 18 months and maximum........the day you clear third level.for fee see the cfa institute it is subject to change.approximation.....tution fee up to--2 lakhs.for charter you need 4 years of work exp either before -in between-after the cfa in the fields and designations mentioned on the cfa institute website.
@abcliks
what it takes to be a quantitative analyst ?i mean degree requirement-work exp-is cfa sufficient ?what are the responsibilities/work profile of this designation ?
@dsaroya For quantitative analyst position, u are required to be an engineer from IITs or other top engineering colleges... The job may involve , algorithmic trading, arbitrage trading for example...but for sure ur quant should be extraordinarily good...
i will appreciate if you could clarify more on 4 yrs relavent work experience. I understand it is obviously finance related role, but my question is "working at which level", "how much a designation matters to get CFA charter after clearing level 3?" " Do we have to submit work experience letter to AIMR?"
@abcliks
thanks .....

thanks. .i have one doubt in mind.if a person completes all 3levels and dioes not get that work ex. then in that case will he not be cfa qualified. will he not get cfa degree. will his degree ahs no value. what is all about this charter that everyone talks about. i swithout charter doing this course has no value.please enlighten me.thanks
I myself graduated from ICfai university, and working in multi-national bank. I think icfai is not offering any programs. The American institution is not known to people in India some 2/3 years back, they are banking on the brand name created by icfai over the years. And the icfai university programs are well reconginsed by Indian corporate sector and they have a strong alumni network.
=======================================================
of course we r having exams in india. Secondly ICFAI-CFA and CFAI_CFA cost more or less the same. u need not worry. thirdly if u even have to go abroad to give the exam, going to kathmandu is not very costly.
Thirdly if it costs a fraction more, why not do CFA from CFAI,USA which is more industry relevant and endorsed by the corporate thus improving your chances for a job, rather than doing ICFAI-cfa which will assure u that u remain unemployed.

Please advice....
@arpitasaraswat8
throughout your accads you are into finance....confusion for what ?for enrolling into cfa you don't need work exp..pursue your ms and enroll for cfa. at least, clear level 1 while pursuing your ms,it will definitely help you in getting job.
