@time4apogee U not takin the IT MNC...? Then wat u gonna do in recent future...? U doin MBA..?
hey puys,
I am planning to write CFA Level 1 this December. I need advice on what r the chances that there would be a center in India added at a later date. At the moment there is no center in India. Has it ever happened that the exam was not held in India earlier as well. I know there is case pending in Delhi High Court.. ll the court allow Dec 2010 to be held in India?
I need to register.. ny thing on this?
99 % it will be held in India... The last time it was not in india was ' Dec 08 '
@time4apogee
is financial modeling anyway related with the cfa ?
financial modeling is a way of projecting future cash flows of the company being valuated.....
i dint get ur question though......u mean its included in the CFA...or u mean u'll get to do that stuff after pursuing CFA....what exactly is ur question?
ABCLIKS Says@time4apogee U not takin the IT MNC...? Then wat u gonna do in recent future...? U doin MBA..?

We need IIM C ppl to present the realistic picture of ' how to get entry in the IBs'... Lots of ppl are PMing me abt it... How to tell them abt reality... @Kamal plz give ur 2 cents on ' how realistic it is to gain entry in IBs...'!

Investment Banking is a broad area. There are a variety of roles one can get into an Investment Bank.
Many people are misguided by the fact that CFA (generally L1) and all solely will help them which as already discussed is a myth. Just imagine 45% of the people who appear clear L1.
So would it be that great an achievement?
Your selection in I banks depends on the profile which you possess. For example relevant work x, your achievement in exams of competence like National Olympiads, NTSE etc, your academic qualification, academic achievements and academic background (the college from which you are).
Now talking about entry level in I banks as I said there are variety of roles and the one which is core investment banking is known as IBD (Mergers and Acquisitions Advisory). This is the toughest to get and one needs to be from the Top 3 IIMs (sometimes even Top 3 is not enough) apart from having a good profile. For other roles like Equity research, Asset Management I banks do take students from other b schools. I only talked about entry level, For people with relevant work x and other credentials they can get a good role despite not being from the Top 3 IIMs.
Having said that, how CFA helps is it shows the recruiter that you are interested in Finance and would answer atleast the basic finance questions in the interview provided you are given a chance to be interviewed.
So if you have interest in finance you can certainly you can go ahead for CFA L1, but do not rely on it to get entry into I banks.
@ suyash: good post!

The ones you have named are Indian commercial banks and not I banks
and barring Kotak, ICICI and HDFCother commercial banks are not that active in M&A; or equity underwriting space
Among the dominant players are
Edelweiss
Motilal Oswal
Anand Rathi group
Angel Brokers
Enam securities
Bonanza Portfolio Limited (Bonanza Corporate Solutions)
India bulls
India Infoline
to name a few

m no CFA aspirant, neither m i into i-banking. but followin finance wid interest, i know that kotak i-bank and JM financials are key players in india.. they are into all the facets of i-bankin.. especially equity raising thru IPOs. look at any IPO adv. in the paper, u will see atleast one of these 2 there as lead managers... i've also read in the magazines that these have good market share in advisory services.. and den of course, all the banks have their i-bankin divisons.. also, many banks, includin icici n yes bank, are on expansion drive in this segment, keepin in mind the good market sentiments in this period and indian corporates on acquisition drive....
@Suyash These are all brokerages which also help in underwriting and merchant banking services apart from regular equity research facilities...
Cap markets arms of SBI, KOTAK, BOB, ICICI , IDBI, HDFC, PNB are quite famous and in fact a promising competitors of MNC I banks...
Yup... idfc, ifci these are not per se Investment banks...but still they have some good profiles...
This i know bcoz i have come through most of them during ma CA interns.. In fact, i did ma intern in one of the brokerages u hv mentioned..it was for learnin purpose...and stipend was as per guidelines of our institute...
The packages in indian entities though are less than MNCs
@suyash rix
what are the entry level profiles after cfa in the firms mentioned by you ?
