I also, like guiding/teaching CFA candidates who are not interested in joinign full time coaching center. recently I have got an opportunity to be a part of SPJCM as astt faculty.

cool!! good to hear that you like to help CFA candidates.:thumbsup::thumbsup: hav u cleared all of the 3 CFA levels? Also, how do you find the job prospects for people who hav cleared CFA level 2......

What i have heard from most of my friends is that their's overabundance of level 2 cleared people in the market and it is very difficult to make a switch to finance. Comments are :

Hi, i am doing my 1 yr MBA in Operations from SP Jain Institute, Mumbai. Before MBA I have 4.5 yrs of work ex in manufacturing sector (absolutely nothing to do with fin). I am planning to take CFA level 1 in June-2010. Can you please suggest me what kind of roles can I expect post my CFA (level-1 and 2) considering my zero work ex in finance so far? What are the salary levels offered to CFA level-1 & level-2?
Thanks

This question has been touched upon time and again. If you want to shift your career to Finance from some other industry, you should be doing an MBA. The CFA charter is most of the time helpful only if you have relevant experience to back it up. However, some people with Commerce or engineering backgrounds do get jobs after Level 1 or 2. Commerce people could end up in Research and Engineering guys could get into financial engineering/ modelling.

However if you are looking for a front office job in an Investment Bank or a hedge fund, then you should have relevant experience apart from clearing the various levels.

In short, If you are looking for a career shift into Finance, get an MBA. Pursuing the CFA Program with no relevant work experience in the look out of jobs is not advised by most people.

Hello vivek , thanks for your suggestion.. but as you said " if you are looking for a front office job in an Investment Bank or a hedge fund, then you should have relevant experience apart from the CFA Charter"

But we earn a charter only if we have 4 years of relevant work ex...!

Hi,

Does anyone know where the schweser books (for Level 2) are available in Pune ??

Hi,

Does anyone know where the schweser books (for Level 2) are available in Pune ??

Hi esahihoon
congrats on clearing L1
When I was taking L1 and L2, I was in pune.
For both the exams I had contacted Laxmi Xerox and they deliver anywhere in India, within 3-4 days.
Even here at IIM Lucknow, I ordered the stuff for L3 from there only.
I guess you can try that out

Cheers
Akshat

PS: feels good to be back on the forum after a loooong time

Hi Puys

I was going through the last few pages of the forum..
I am really happy to see so many of you, so highly involved with this exam.

There is just one request, I'd like to make,
Please refrain from posting advertisements and inviting expression of interests for sale of books etc etc.

Lets keep this a career discussion/ exam preparation thread...

What say puys ?

cheers

Hi Realboss

I completely agree with what Vivek has mentioned in his post.
To start of in fin, one needs an MBA.
Engineers do get some profiles in I-banking, but thats more of backend modeling work that they do. And thats also available when they are from a top college like an IIT.
As far as preparation for the course is concerned, Schweser is sufficient for any level, ( I read only those for all the 3)
Please make sure that you go through all the key concepts and the exercises at the back of every reading.
If you do that diligently, then you'll definitely make it

All the best
Akshat
Hi friends, this is emraan here
i wish to do CFA, is it worth doing from ICFAI or should i do it from CFA Institute... i m concern about the global acceptance of CFA offered by ICFAI
Please advise

Imraan! While the structure of both the programs may look similar, the ICFAIs program will surely give knowledge on local laws, fundamentals and financial conditions to excel in the domain of finance. On the other hand, the International program would give only generic view of the concepts without reference to any specific economy.

@ Emraaan:
doing the course from ICFAI would definetly have limited acceptance,,.. India.. or may be Asia at the most..
