Well I would suggest US CFA... because it is valued internationally even the indian counterpart is accepted in many countries... but I have opted for the US CFA... when you say CFA to me there is only one CFA and that is the US one.. because it is there registered trademark.. and the indian institute is just masking on the name of the US charter.... well the matter is in the court and would be sorted out soon...
If you go for US one ... it will cost your around $1100 + travelling expense and it is held only two times a year... the Indian one is relatively cheaper... and exams are held 4 times a year.. (please check there website for accuracy.. i am not sure)
So you need to make decisioin...
I am from a software background and I cleared the exam without any coaching... you being from B.com background you have an advantage...compared to me... as to me everything was new... you would be having sound understanding of balancesheet and other financial statements... so you can leverage that.....
i have joined jdbims and i have a query regarding CFA, i want to know that whether i colud do CFA side by side with M.M.S.(master of management studies)......as i had enquired this to the jdbims's office also but they are saying that we dont allow this.....but when enquired to the cfa(icfai) institute that no college in whole country could resist from pursuing the course to any student.....i think jdbims are having some confusion......
US CFA and ICFAI CFA course can be done side by side along with your MMS, it could be done along with MBA also then what is the problem with MMS!!!

hi frnds.. i recently completed b.com....wrote cat last year with the plan joinin for mba..scored 93 percentile...but later felt tht im not prepared for mba now..due to slow down no prober job opportunities..im totally free now so to make full use of time..im thinkin to join both ca n cfa...
would i be able to study for both cfa level dec 2009 n ca level2 may 2010....i personally think i could cos im all free...but like to have some valuable suggestions..as only four months are left for level 1 exam..

What a co-incidence. I did B.com.Wrote CAT 2008 got 92.81%il.Didn't get admission to the institutes of my choice.Felt MBA wasn't for me.Now doing CA along with CFA.Cleared CPT,giving IPCC may2010 and CFA level1 dec09.
@sidcool007 @Ashish: I assume you are prepping for CFA from CFA Institute, US. The focus of each (CA and CFA) and manner of examining candidates is very different. You might get frustrated if you gun for both. I would suggest you focus on CA for now. Attempt CFA Levels after you complete CA. Also be sure to check the experience requirement of CFA, so that you can align your CA - articleship to the requirements. It will work to your advantage. Best. HTH.
Have been following the thread for a long time. First " HEARTIEST CONGRATULATIONS " to all who have cleared Level I. Guys who could not " Shit Happens "
Now for the guys who want to do CFA. First please note that ICFAI CFA and CFA US are two different things. People cannot use the CFA in front of their names (legally) if they are from ICFAI. CFA charter has a different value altogether and plus you need to clear all the three levels ( Level 1 held in Dec and June every year and Level 2 & 3 only held in June ) and also have a certain amount of experience till the time you earn a charter degree. CFA as you all know means Chartered Financial Analyst and is a world renowned course. Career path here would be started off with an Equity research Analyst , a Junior Trader ,Sales Trader etc to start off with. Salary ranges I have not much of an idea as during recession there are people who dont have a job to the guys who have big shot jobs, all depends how you utilize it. If you want to make a career in CAPITAL MARKET , then this is one exam which can give you the long awaited break.
Now for the guys who are doing their CFA and CA. Well its not impossible, but unless you don't want your head to explode or you have an einstein brain , I would recommend that you concentrate on one thing at a time, as mentioned in the post above, better to concetrate on CFA during your Articleship.

@khan18 well to give CFA no work experience is required. However to get the charter you need the work experience ! @ashish.leo : yahoo id would be euivalent to mailid and posting it is prohibited on the forum . better if you can ask sidcool007 using PM the same stuff @sidcool007 : how you plan for CFA is like if you have your ca2 in Mya then you can eye the next year december stuff . well if any other you can pm me 😃
