Need some Opinions on CFA

@ INimisha...

Coaching classes can be of help but the most important work you have to do.... that it is to study... you can join some of the reputed classes... but at the end .... you need to spend at least 300+ hours studying the material...... given you are from non finance background you might require even more....

I was in the same boat as you are in right now... I studied on my own... waiting for the result.. hopefully would clear...

Hope that helps..

Hi I am Gautam . I am also looking forward to appearing for the CFA level 1 June 2010 exam possibly by the 'feb deadline' which is mentioned at the international website for CFA.

I want to know if I am eligible to appear for level 1. I would be in my 3rd year of Btech. 21 years in age at the time of registration.

Waiting for a quick reply...with thanks.!!

Hi,
You must be waiting for the results with your fingers crossed..anyways hope you get through with the exam...
I know I will have to put in the efforts required... I was also planning to study on my own...tried my hands on 'Financial Reporting'.. found it okay at the starting... dunno howz it going to be as i move ahead(definitly it is going to be tougher)...
Wasnt it difficult for you to study all by yourself..or you must be having some company...?

Hi All

I am planning to go for CFA and cant decide whether to appear for level 1 in dec or try in jun. i am a BA graduate so its a new thing for me. please advice if it is practically possible for me to clear Level 1 with just 4 month preparation. i am a full time employee but i can devote 3-4 hours daily. Is it good to join a coaching institute, if yes than what all are the options in Delhi.

just visit CFA institute website click on enroll rest is self explanatory

can i make an online transfer or do i have to use a credit card only?
You can make payment using credit card (VISA or MASTER) thats most convenient (you will have to pay 3.5% for internation payments)

do i have to send any paperwork to cfa institute ?
No paper work required ..entire process is paperless ..just make sure you notedown your CFA account user is and passowrd . In November you will get your exam tickets online. Just carry its print out and along with government issued I Card ..

now will they send me the study material...???

Yes you will get set of CFA books at your postal address ( so make sure you enter the right postal address). Normally people get books within a week.
Hi All,
I need some serious help regarding CFA.
> I have been working with TCS for almost 2 years now and frankly I did not like the experience.
> I want to switch to Finance. Will getting a CFA (Level-1) help me move into any finance job after 2 yrs in IT? (I can take the other 2 levels after I get into a finance company).
> I realized late but nevertheless I did, that IT is not for me and I have inclination towards Finance.
> I do not have any prior experience in Finance. Will clearing CFA Level-1 help me move out of IT and into a core Finance Job?

Please Help. A prompt relply would be appreciable

Hi Ashish

Clearing CFA Level 1 (AIMR, USA) will enable u to switch to your career. but be careful as the market place for jobs is not so promising in this sector rt now; thanks to the crisis.
Another point to note is that u will start your career in finance from the base and the pay scale will be less owing to your IT background. moreover the IT exp (considering only technical work) may not be considered in int.

HI RAJA....
u know itz always better to b working all time, coz in so much of competiton some time of gap ,gives a negative effect, but may not seriously effect,,if u cover it up,by performing well at the interview.abv all u are prep for CFA l1..so u arent ideal... u can concentrate on it,in the mean time if u find a reasonable job,u can thnk abt it.

actually im just a graduate, working as a share advisor.with just 1 yr experience.,,so whtever i suggested was just my view point,,coz i spend a yr after my graduation prep 4 MBA ,by the time found place in my present job, which im enjoyg,& so thinkg of CFA... instead of MBA
now i think you can help me,coz u have done CFA frm ICFAI, so if u can suggest hw is it to do frm ICFAI, u trying for AIMR,coz u wana go abroad or ???

wish u the best......
regards,vishaka(kerala)

Hi Friends,

It's results season in the stock market ...... so how can it be diffrent in CFA.... today Level 1 results were announced.... and I am really happy to inform you that I have cleared Level 1 exam.... really very happy... looking forward for Level 2 and a job opening in the Finance sector.... as i am currently in a software company.........

Who else cleared....!! No updates on this post... no activity!! do share your happiness...

Hi Aditya,

MBA is not a necessity.. it can be a supplement .. if you plan to do along with CFA... but CFA in itself is a big thing... if you happen to earn your charter then I dont think doing MBA is a necessity... although many do it... but it is certainly not a necessity...

Moreover the two courses are diffrent.... in CFA you have to do self study or coaching classes at the max... where as in MBA you attended college... also in format... CFA focuses solely on Investment management where as in MBA along with finance concepts you would have management concepts which are equally important...

So it's upto you to decide... my suggestion would be continue your job and start preparing for Level 1... hope it helps...

congrats... so can u share some of ur insights into the exam and ur preparation strategy, it wud be gr8 for the future aspirants....
so trying for the financial domain just after L1, dont u think it wud be tough??

anyways,congrats once again

well it may be tough... but gaining experience in software is not going to help me either... as ultimately my goal is to go in finance....

well as it is said "There is no short cut to success".... you need to give atleast 300 hours for level1 exam.... if you are working it becomes really tough... but you have to manage your time well... well if you have registered for the exam you would have recieved material from the institute and the post cards as well... which tells you how demanding it is for preparing for the exam..... but trust me... the hard work is worth it.... today when I saw pass against my name... I felt I had everything in the world.... because I had given almost 1 year for the preparation for level 1 exam.... and to taste victory after that much effort felt really good....

This forum is also of great help... I would suggest you all to follow the thread and most of your doubts would get cleared .... also if you have some doubts you can post it here... which experienced people would reply to.....

All the best to all of you...for your future exam.....
