I am MBA in Finance and having 2 year of Work exp. I am perciving CFA Level 1, I had appeared for Level 1 in June 2009, but Couldnt Clear it. Now i am in confusion whether to give my exam in Dec 2009 or should appear in June 2010.As on Nov 27,i am getting married which was decided year back , and now i cant postpone my marriage date and exam date is 6th Dec 2009.
I am bit confident of clearing the level one in Dec, and also planning for Level 2 in June but because of my marraige i am confuse, I am Resident of Mumbai and office is in pune on week ends i travel to mumbai . Everyday i plan to study for 2 to 3 hrs and weekend 5 to 6 hrs ,Seeing the Current Situation there is hardly 2 to 3 month left with me .... i havent yet register to dec, because of this confusion ,,,,
I am bit tense because in dec also if dint cleared my exam and i am having fear that i may loose confidence of giving CFA Bcoz of Failure...
I need Suggestion .......Whethere i should give exam in Dec or June

I guess marriage is more important.. even if you manage to study and revise your course it would be pretty difficult managing the two most important events in your life simultaneously... I would suggest appear in June ... and give your best short...

How much work ex is required for appearing for Level 1 CFA ?
I am a fresher and intend to appear for Level 1 in Dec 09.
As posted earlier ,you don't need any work ex to appear for CFA level 1,but to get the charter after completing all the three levels you need to have 4 years of work ex
Since you have quants background as you are an engineer, you should not have any problems of doing CFA provided you study hard. Use some prep course provider like schweser or stall and give your level 1 exam and see how you do it. whether you pass or not you would at the end of it have better understanding of finance

Hows the test pattern of CFA ?
Is it problem solving or Multiple choice questions or essay like short notes ?
Level 1 and Level 2 are multilple choice questions. In Level 2 though it is multiple choice it is what they call item sets so there would be a series of 5 questions on a given item which consists of case study. Level 3 has one paper which is essay and one paper item set

I am happy to have cleared Level III today, though kinda sad, that my posts on this thread may become even more sporadic.

I intend to register for Dec 2009 Level 1 exam, but am confused about the reason I want to do CFA.
I passed out of engineering this year, and want to pursue MBA from next year. My immediate purpose behind enrolling for CFA is to gain some finance related knowledge and score some brownie points if at all I get a call from the top 20 B Schools next year. I intend to make up for my bad acads (BE 4 years aggregate - 54% with a year drop).
Now I understand that one gets CFA charter after 4 years of finance related work experience. Assuming I get into B School next year, and pass out of it in 2012, I would get CFA charter by 2016. Will it be of any value then ?
Also, does clearing CFA level 1 help in B School interviews i.e does it hold a strong value in terms of achievement ?
Experts please help. I need to take a decision within the next 24 hours whether or not to appear for Level 1 in Dec this year.
Any other exams/courses you people suggest which will help with financial knowledge and act as a leverage point in top B School interviews.

Well i am no expert but i ve done a fair deal of research since even i am an Engineer and a CFA aspirant. First of all, i guess ur primary goal is clearing CAT/XAT etc to get into a top B school, so now first u should think if you could crack both CFA and CAT in the next 3-4 months, though its not impossible , it would be a difficult task and also its a risk since a CFA is quite costly, and even if you clear both of them, the chances of u taking up level 2 next june along with all the GD/PI process would be very difficult as L2 is generally tougher than L1, So i suggest u to take up L1 next June, by first clearing all the CAT/XAT this December, and by the time you get into a B school u can finish ur L1
And coming to the role of L1 in Interviews, ya it gives u an edge in Interviews but not as much as a L2, a L2 also ensures that u get a good summers.
So ultimately its u who have to decide it 😃

I have completed my B.Pharm from Manipal University, Karnataka(4yr course) and I also hold a certificate in Intellectual Property Rights from World Intellectual Property Organisation(WIPO), Geneva.
I want to be a Financial Analyst of a reputed Pharma MNC.
Currently I am pursuing following courses simultaneously:
1> MBA Finance--- Regular classroom course
2> CFA--- from CFA Institute, USA
3> MBA Project Management--- correspondence, from Alagappa University
I also want to join1 more course in finance through corresopndence. I have heard about Master of Business Finance(MBF) offered by Indian Institute of Finance, New Delhi and also about Master of Finance and Control (M.F.C.) offered by Punjab University. Both courses are through correspondence. I need to select 1 more course, either MBF or MFC. Please let me know which course I should select and why according to my course combination.... Thanks...
