Need some Opinions on CFA

@esahihoonmain

BTW, can you suggest some brokerage firms??

Thanks in Advance!

Galt,

Thanks for the good wishes.. well as you know the scenario is bad... so brokerage firms are not hiring new people.. very few would be hiring new people.. you need to check with some of the job sites and search and post your resume... and hope for the best..

hi all,
need ur opinions! i am an EEE with almost 4+ years of IT experience! am very keen to make a career shift to the domain of finance! am planning to take up the CFA L1 exam in June 2010! meanwhile, is there any way i can shift over to finance..with my quant skills? i know this is a very rough patch that the financial industry is going thru..but then wud be great if any of u could throw some light on companies which recruit engineers for their analyst/researcher type of role! looking forward to hearing from you, all!! thanx in advance!!

cheers

Guys i live in pune n planning to give Level 1 in december.. I hv the books but finding it really tough to understand.. Guys is there any good coaching centre in pune or mumbai? Plz lemme know..
Thanx

hey frends...

seeking answers and suggestions frm u all... if one wishes to enter into wealth management...before an MBA in finance..what other course will give an edge and understanding...??? is it CFA...??? or somethn else....???

and what abt treasury management....???? what courses will help...????

plzzzz advice....

thnx in advance

Look out for KPOs/ Back offices of the consulting firms/ Analytics firms...these are good launch pads to enter to finance.

And if u r absolutely certain of ur L1 exams, take it in December,09...even if u r from the engineering background, 6-7 months is more than enough u will ever need to prepare...L1 is quite easy.

CFA L1 will really help u break into the field.

Just do a google search, you will get all the names u need....there are loads of KPOs in India.

My two cents

thanx a lot for ur inputs!! any lead on how to proceed with the search on google? i tried, it's showing up a plethora of info...wud be great if you could provide some specifics (company names) on that!! also, will the KPOs be keen on hiring somebody who has spent 4 years in the IT industry? being a bit pessimistic, i know..but then am clueless on this!! thanx, again!!

cheers

A CFP would be a closer match if you wanna move into wealth management...

Hi there,

My profile is bi unique due to some reasons.

I am a postgraduat doctor by proffession; an some how entered in the corporat world. Prsently I am working in the capacity of AVP in a pharmaceutical company.

During my job, I realized that any body who wants to go at the top needs to understand the intricacies of finance, and that's how I started thinking of pursuing CFA

Can anyone of you please let me know the credibility of CFA; I mean the international value. How far it can be helpful for me in general

I am sorry guys..I may be little offbeat as compared to you all

Thanks in advance

i wil doin mba(hrm)
n m plannin to do cfa also along side
wil this combination b helpful to me?

Sir,

I think you should better pursue an MBA. The CFA charter is a highly specialized course in the field of Finance. In your case, what you seem to need is a managerial knowledge of Finance. So, an MBA is what would actually help your profile.

If shifting to finance is your only objective, I dont think you need to take up something as expansive as a CFA... You could join as a trader trainee in any of the brokerage firms and eventually move onto analyst positions in the broking circles... Or if you're looking for a formal education, you could take up a Masters in Finance/Financial Management/Financial Engineering..

It ultimately depends on what kind of positions you are looking at withing the finance industry. For instance CFA is for people looking to specialize as analysts. For those looking to enter risk management FRM or PRMIA would be a better bet. Or for those looking to enter corporate finance/investment banking, an MBA in Finance would be much better.... Of course, CFA is a globally accredited qualification, and will give u much better visibility internationally...

Hope this helps...

HK

The CFA charter is not just about analysts. Its the mother of all Finance courses. You will learn more Finance in the CFA program than you would in any other course. I am a Trader( not an analyst) and a CFA L2 candidate. Also there is a thin line of difference b/w an MS in Finance and an MBA or the CFA charter. I otherwise agree with whatever else you mentioned.

HEy i Am a B.cOm final year student from delhi university and i want to know will my 3 year degree be considered eligible to do CFA from USA . i will enroll in september for june 2010 exam cfa level 1 and also if sumone can guide me shud i go for an MBA from a good institute in india or CFA ????:lookround::lookround::lookround:

I need HElp:-(

Rahul,
As per my understanding, enrolling for the CFA program will not be a problem. However, when you actually complete all the three levels, its pertinent that you fulfill the work experience requirement of 4 years. Till that time, you'd not be an enlisted CFA,but would definitely be able to mention that you cleared all the levels on your CV.

Regarding MBA vs CFA, I'd advise you to go through this thread diligently, under which all your doubts would be ascertained to be solved. My personal suggestion would be to not look at CFA as a substitute to a B School. Consider it as a complementary addage to your skillsets if you plan to get into PE, Fund management, etc.

Hope I could provide some direction.

thnk YOU so mUCH................

Just curious...you work for which firm? I see your location as Gurgaon...I believe it makes sense for a firm having trading license to have traders at Mumbai

ya i agree wid vivek coz doing it in combi wid mba it will be hectic schedule and may prove to be of no use.. (kinda do naav mein pair rakhna) concentrate on one.
:)

hi all...!
Actually am new to this cfa thing... i have also visited the website of CFA.. but still am up with a query..!

Is CFA of any importance for people with Marketing as their majors? Is CFA only for the finance guys?

TIA

Hello everyone..... I have just finished B tech in biotechnology and got admission in mediocre MBA college where session begins from mid July. I cannot afford to drop another year for CAT/XAT etc. since i already dropped one year before engineering....To supplement my MBA I am interested in qualifying CFA and intend to appear for L1 in June 2010 . I have no knowledge whatsoever in eco or commerce or finance so i need 1 year time to get initiated.... Now my question is -after qualifying L1 will i get any sort of certificate validating the same which i can show during MBA placements (that is a separate certificate validating every level qualified)or do i get that final charter only after qualifying all 3 levels and acquiring relevant work ex and nothing validating that i qualified the subsequent levels.
Because if it is the latter then how can it be proved to the prospective employers during placement that i have qualified L1?

Hi Rohit,
I am a software Engineer and i wanted to go for CFA this year as i am more inclined toward finance.
Can you please give me the details as to what are the CFA prospects job wise ,and how can i start preparing

Thanks in advance
