hii,

i am MBA finance 2008 and currently working with a MNC. i am intrested in International CFA for june 2010.... I want to start early so can the material of 2009 can be used for it.... Thanks alot in advance

Hi Divya,

It is good that you want to start early... but the institute would not except the registeration for June 2010 , as of now they are accepting registerations only for Dec 2009, moreover once you register for the exam the institute would send you the latest books, mean time if you want to start studying you can buy the schweser notes... and start studying from them...

Good luck..

Hey,

I am currently working in TCS since oct'08....after graduating(B.Tech in IT) in may'08....

I am now looking at giving CFA level-1 in December'09........

However, my objectives are different.....I had applied for LSE,Oxford etc Msc Finance programs for Fall'09 but did not get addmitted (Had a GMAT score of 700 , acads 8.26/10, Good Recos)...and beleive my lack of background in finance was one of the main causes of not getting into such courses....

I now want to work on my profile, so as to improve my chances of gettin into some really good MS Finance programs....and thus I am seeing CFA Level-1 as an option....

One of the reasons I beleive it could be useful is that these courses have collaborations with CFA, and thus having level-1 cleared could increase my chances.....
however, these are only my speculations ,and would help and other insights with seniors on this forum to actually state what am pllaning is actually the right decision for the direction in which I want to go.....

My motive is very clear I only want clear CFA level-1, and then apply for MS Finance ....and my motive of clearing CFA level-1 would be to improve my profile....so that it blosters my chances of gettin into some of the best MS Financne courses....

I could then look into clearing furthur CFA levels.....

please help....so that I could finalize my decision for enrollin into CFA level-1 dec'09.....

first of all without knowing my college u should not call it "farzi".....just to get it straight i did my B.Tech frm LN Mittal Insitute of Information Technology...set by Mr.Mittal(i supp u know who is he) do a bit off googling you will know it is not farzi......

I did get rejected by LSE...but then also got acceped by.....
Carnegie Mellon University(MS-MIS)
Rennselear Polytechnic Insitute(MS-IT)
but, decided not to go ahead because of financial issues frm my part , and uncertaities in US......

so,when u do get accepted into courses related to your field....
so it makes a lot of sense whhen i say...it was beacz of my lack of background in finance......i did not get through.....

if i want to do a MS in Finance....i see nothing wrong in that....and if i want to do my cfa along with it....again i see nothing wrong in that too......

all i wanted to know was that,if i clear my cfa level-1 would my chances increase to get accepted, to MS Finance increase.....also with some knowledge in finance i would be better equiped for such couses...i could take my cfa level-2 and 3 frm there on....

and by the way...i did not get onething how could u find "money" motive behind my wish to do a MS....

u should be vary of posting comments such as these....

Another one of those farzi engineers from the manufacturing houses of indian ingineering colleges, welcome to the party brother...
I guess what u ae lacking is the whole point. You don't seem to be having any purpose at all. U just want to get into finance for the sake of money and i am damn sure about u. thats why these eminent colleges have disbanded u. u now want to do CFA just for brand building?? Are u insane??? CFA is much more than that, if u have cleared all the three levels, it is said that u have done ur predoctal in finance... so buddy
my advice to u is, do CFA if u want to do CFA not for some goddamn resume building for admission into top universities abroad. Thats gonna suck buddy trust me. So rock and roll, and make some goood decisions... not those obvious insecure mentallity ones that our indian education system gives
best of luck buddy.....

Mind your language dude , profanity is a serious issue on these public forums, and dont try to flaunt about your mediocre consulting skills when someone is asking for a clean and clear advice.

the first one is a million dollar question.. Just mail them and find out to be sure.. I think apart from Nepal you would need a VISA even for 1 day no??

And to the second question.. Its better if you get the 2008 notes.. Why risk it when you are already investing so much.. Talk to the Laxmi Copy Place guy.. His address and phone number is there in the pages before.. He has the set available from Saturday I think..

Hi All,
I have Master in Microelectronics and working since last 2 year in VLSI industry. Since last 2 month I have no job and I was looking for career in Finance domain.
SO I just want to know from you all about it. Actually I have 2 question.

First is that should I switch to Finance field at this moment of my life or stick to my VLSI domain. I mean to ask would it be possible for me to have a successful career in finance or not. will my previous work exp. will count or not?

Second I was confused regarding Actuarial vs CFA? Which will be better for me which I should go for. last year I prepared for Actuarial along with my job and appear for 3 exam in CT series but could't clear a single one. So no I was looking whether I try again for Actuarial or I should go for CFA as actuarial is big program.
which one will be better to get a good job easily.

Please help me regarding this so that I can plan accordingly.

Please resolve my all doubts as You have better idea of this field than me.

Bye

Hi Navneet,

Well your VLSI experience would certainly not be counted... you need to start as a fresher in field of finance... as VLSI is no where related to finance... so you need to make a choice... doing CFA would require 3 competitive exams + 4 years of finance experience after that you gain the charter... you can also get work after L1 and L2 ... so you need to decide, beacuse once you decide to enter finance your prior work experience and education would not be helpfull.. so if you are deeply interested in finance.. and you are ready for domain switch .. you can think of this option...

That's my view on your query... hope that helps..:)

Hi Shrey,

The options are many... depending on what you want to do... you can go for CFA, if you are interested in Technical Analysis you can go for CMT , if you are interested in financial planning you can go for CFP... since this thread is mainly about CFA.. you can get all the info on CFA on this thread.. strat reading them one by one....

Hi All,

I am a final semester B.E (Computer Sc & Engg) student. I am currently placed in an Indian IT MNC through campus recruitment. I am interested in shifting towards finance. I took CAT(94.xx %tile) this year and got call from TAPMI (did not attend) & IMT - N (converted, PGDM-IT) but I am more interested in finance. Thats why didn't take admn. What I want to confirm is "WILL I BE ABLE TO SHIFT TO FINANCE AFTER TAKING CFA EXAMS" ? I plan to work in my IT company for next 2 to 2.5 years during which I plan to take CFA. Kindly clear my doubt.
Also consider the factor that I am complete newbie in Finance but am ready to work hard.

Thanks in Advance!

If shifting to finance is your only objective, I dont think you need to take up something as expansive as a CFA... You could join as a trader trainee in any of the brokerage firms and eventually move onto analyst positions in the broking circles... Or if you're looking for a formal education, you could take up a Masters in Finance/Financial Management/Financial Engineering..

It ultimately depends on what kind of positions you are looking at withing the finance industry. For instance CFA is for people looking to specialize as analysts. For those looking to enter risk management FRM or PRMIA would be a better bet. Or for those looking to enter corporate finance/investment banking, an MBA in Finance would be much better.... Of course, CFA is a globally accredited qualification, and will give u much better visibility internationally...

Hope this helps...

All Hail Lord Aragon!

Thanks a lot, Sir! Will definitely keep your advice in mind while planning my future. Yes, the course in very costly, especially now that I will have to write it in Nepal ( If I write it!)
I eventually wish to do an MBA in finance from a great school (read H/W/Chi/S!). Want a first hand experience in the field in some great firm, that is why thought of taking CFA, otherwise they (the firms) won't even look at a candidate like me. Is it advisable?

Thanks a lot, again!

Hi Galt,

Well I would suggest if you are determined to join finance in future.. do not enter software field.. I would suggest instead you start in some of brokerage firm ... which would be counted as your experience once you opt for CFA... your software experience would not be counted anywhere.. and it would be of little help ... if you are thinking of joining MBA that probably software is fine.. but if CFA is in your mind .. then join some finance firm and gain relevant experience rather than the software experience...

This is what i think..

@esahihoonmain
Thanks a lot!! Will keep that in mind!
And Good Luck Hunting L1!
